Fun, but I feel it's useless as a TED talk unless he explains why and how. Yeah, I get that he's a "magician" and they can't share their tricks, but that's the point of a magic show, not something that is supposed to enlighten as opposed to simply entertain the audience.

Yeah, I had that problem too, or rather, with his 'supernatural' patter (voodoo, second sight, etc). I'd have had no problem with any of it if he'd said flat out and throughout that he was exploiting our perceptions and ran the talk as a demo.

TED is for rational thinking, not a magic show.
Now had he showed us our minds were deceiving us THEN he would be
Jedi.

Ohhh.... A car loaded with video cameras and he's driving blindfolded!

When did TED become a MTV promoting variety show? Cool tricks good sir but that's all that 'talk' was.

Amazing what a bit of fishing line can accomplish...

So ostensibly it's a talk about "mind tricks," but in reality he just does a couple of crappy tricks ("Devil's bottle" and "spike") you can buy at your local magic shop for like $20. That is actually the worst TED talk I have ever seen, and subby should be ashamed.

I feel cheated, the camera cut away to the audience while he reversed his left hand. Smoke and mirrors is not the essence of TED talks. Shame on you TED ... and Subby.

Nothing lamer than magic that can be explained by the "random" assistants being in on it.

This Guy had a similar show on a cruise ship that my kids & I were on earlier this year. Many of the same tricks, but performed a bit better in my opinion. While I'll agree entirely that this didn't belong on TED, I can attest that the audience member assitants weren't in on it at the show I saw. For the trick where he touched one person but the other felt it, he was playing up the angle that twins have a special connection & asked if there was a set in the audience. My 11 year old twin boys volunteered and it worked perfectly. The best part was that they were both blindfolded & kept very far apart, but they both insisted that they felt everything.

I'm sure it was a cool show and I'm glad you and your kids enjoyed it, but, man, that guy looks like a huge D-bag.

TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, and Design.

Yeah I was pissed off. I found this just recently in a TED TALK MOST WATCHED BEST EVARR list.

I Googled for answers and was even more pissed off. The "mind tricks" were played on me, not the farking patsies on stage. The talk was very much presented that the mind tricks would be on the audience volunteers.

Never found the answer to the car video. My only guess is that it was a simulator???

Hot damn! I knew my 24 hour a day, two week long marathon of Star Wars would pay off!

For all you haters, it's a TED talk dammit! Bow down before your TED overlords, and suckle the teet.

I was tricked into believing that was a TED talk.

Seriously. As soon as he put the blindfold on, my initial reaction was: "Wow. That's a funny looking blindfold... Also, nice camera right above his head."

unclasps his hands at 1:03 and camera cuts away so we don't see him reposition them. I couldn't watch the rest of the video after that bullshiat.

I'm not going back to get the time codes, but when the woman was pointing at the man's forehead to get him to move his hand up and down, watch the magician's left leg. As she moves her hand, he moves his foot. The pressure that the guy is feeling is the magician's left foot on his right foot as the woman moves her hand.
