Tellingthem: I've been more curious about the ever continuing powerplay in the territories. And have been wondering how much of this is still due to the fight between Hamas and the PLO. Since Hamas boycotted the elections in October and the PLO didn't have a strong showing it seems like neither side really got an advantage so the stalemate continues. Link

Also it seems like Hamas has been having trouble keeping the other militant groups under control. Link

"A major Israeli attack on Gaza would not curb growing extremism in the Palestinian enclave, with the ruling Islamist group Hamas itself struggling to quell radicalism, a senior Israeli official said on Wednesday."

"Most of the activity is coming now not from Hamas," he said, adding that Islamic Jihad was receiving a relatively bigger share of the weapons that had "been pouring into Gaza".

And the Islamic Jihad is now claiming responsibility for the rocket attacks today. Link

The Quds Brigades hit the occupied city of Tel Rabea (Tel Aviv) with a Fajr 5 rocket causing a large explosion to shake the city," the group said in a brief statement, shortly after an AFP correspondent reported seeing a rocket land in the water south of the sprawling coastal city.

"What comes next will be greater," the statement added.

Really? Interesting.

A power play, perhaps? Weaken Hamas to strengthen IJ? Oh boy.

Tel Aviv-Jaffa lies some 60 kilometres (36 miles) north of the Gaza Strip. Fajr 5 rockets have a range of up to 75 kilometres (46 miles).

One other interesting bit is that the Islamic jihad is backed by Iran...Link

"Hamas no longer participates with the mujahideen," says Abdullah Shami, a veteran of Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), a more militant rival faction, which increasingly presents itself as the genuine article; Iran, the PIJ's keenest backer, supports it as an insurance policy in case Hamas abandons the battle altogether.

I'm kinda biased towards Israel because they're the only real secular democracy in the area, but I definitely don't have anything personal against Palestinians, either. On the OTOH, both sides should shoot a missile at Tatsuma's mother's basement because that dude has a Troll Annoyance Factor of 3.5 Bevets. What's with the Japanese name, BTW?

No, this is just the same tiresome crappola that's been going on since long before 1947 and it's getting tiresome. I was rooting for Yitzhak Rabin to finally achieve lasting peace until some right-wing fanatic assassinated Rabin and farked things up completely. Right now, I've kinda given up on any permanent peace in the Mideast and my main concern is that this doesn't go nuclear.

We've somehow managed to go the last 67 years without using nukes against people in spite of several close calls. Inevitably, nukes are going to be used somewhere, and right now the most likely spot is in the Mideast. More likely, it would come from this rocket event progressing to a land war, especially if Iran or Egypt get involved, and Israel retaliating by using one of its nukes on Tehran or Cairo. If America and Russia stay out and this doesn't escalate into nuclear Armageddon right away, I can imagine the backlash. Look how horrified the world was when under 3,000 people died on 9-11; imagine how much worse it would be if half a million civilians get fried.

I'm just glad I'm not in that benighted part of the world right now...*sigh*

Being God's Chosen People is hard.

Ok so how long were the Egyptians enslaving the Jews in the old testament before God bailed em out? Had to be at least as long as WW2 lasted. Probably longer than that really. Oh and guess what... the guys who tortured Jews still lost in the end.

That's actually a complete myth. There were never Jewish slaves in Egypt..

I feel both sides deserve both blame and sympathy. Neither state has exactly conducted itself according to Ghandian principles. Actually the timing of this little escapade is VERY convenient for Netanyahu and the Likudniks.

It seems he was receiving some VERY bad press at home because he had been working his ASS off on collaboration with certain diaspora Zionists to have Obama tossed out of the White House and replaced by the willing Mormon golem.

Of course Obama knew well what the Zionist plotters were up to, and THAT, friends, is why he SNUBBED Bibi on his recent visit to the US.

The bad news is that Obama won - the hated Schwarze was back in the White House, and rumors were swirling around Israel that Bibi had gambled big, and failed. It was being said that Netanyahu and the Likudniks have spoiled any chance of good relations with the Obama administration.

With Bibi's own election coming up in a few months, things were looking pretty grim for Yoohoo and the Hardliners.

What to do? Well, there's nothing like a little military action to shake and wake the patriotism, cohesiveness, and ethnocentrism amonst the masses, and to remind them that they NEED hard-core asshats like BibiCo, schwarze or no schwarze.

Scare the shiat out of the Jews - kill off a few Pallies, come off looking like a hero... just what the doctor ordered.

BEER STEAK: Alright, this is ridiculous. Who would want to live in a country that has been at war since its inception. Clearly the Israel experiment is not working. No one wants them there.

This is what I propose. Israel saves up all its money, all of its international aid, and finds a new place on Earth to call home. It can sell its current land to an Arab country, then use those proceeds to buy its new plot of land. They don't need a ton of space, Israel is about the size of New Jersey. Maybe Greece or Spain will want to sell them 10,000 square miles. The Israeli people will finally have peace. The United States can spend a little more upfront but then we don't have to finance a huge defense program for Israel for the rest of...forever. The Israelis are an enterprising people, a major influx of productive workers would be great for Greece or Spain's economy.

Or hell, let's sell them part of Arizona, the climate is about the same and they're our best friends already anyway.

I mean, if all of your neighbors hated you and did horrible things like murder members of your family, you'd move, right? Israel is rich and now is probably a great time to buy.

I mean, if all of your neighbors hated you and did horrible things like murder members of your family, you'd move, right?

I'm liking this Idea but I'm thinking give them a long skinny country right along the border to Mexico, they can be a buffer state for use, everyone wins.
