Tatsuma: TrollingForColumbine: I have family in Bat Yam. About 4 miles from where this rocket hit. I tend to be compassionate about the plight of the Palestinians. But my mood is changing.

A rocket fell again in Bat Yam a few minutes ago again

Hopefully G-d will protect them

I think this is the one issue we both disagree with. But, I think both we can agree that innocents on both sides have suffered enough, and this needs to resolved like civilized men.

Yeah, the rest of the world has always been so kind to Jewish people.

It's lazy and dangerous to use the anti-Semitic label against people when they critique Israel's policies.

I should say, "It's lazy and dangerous to use the anti-Semitic label FOR ANYONE who critiques Israel's policies." I don't doubt that anti-Semitism fuels many people's critique of Israel, but not everyone's.

Tatsuma: I am sorry, 'prodded'? They fired nearly 500 rockets in a month. 500. Hundreds in the last couple of weeks. And then you think Israel overreacts by striking 20 times at those trying to fire rockets? Are you serious?

Well since both Gaza and the West Bank are Occupied Territories and Israel is the Occupying Power you are ultimately responsible for this mess. Israel has given Palestinians exactly ZERO reasons to feel anything but hatred towards Israel. Economic restrictions, travel restrictions, importation restrictions, fuel shortages, incursions & attacks that leave a bodycount many times higher than anything Palestinians are capable of. Of course Palestinians are going to attack Israel...they have nothing to live for, nothing to do, and the party responsible lies right next door. If Palestinians did nothing Israelis would still enjoy a quality of life that's tremendously better than what Palestinians can achieve. If the Palestinians lash out nothing really changes for them (conditions will continue to suck) but it makes things just a bit more miserable for Israelis.

That's the risk/reward outcome that Israeli policy has encouraged. So yeah, this shiat is all your (collectively) fault.

While you might be right, HOW does Israel manage them then?
Military curfew.
House to house searches for weapons and militants.
Rounding up anyone with a gun or looks like a bad guy.

I guess with enough soldiers and enough casualties you could do this in Gaza.
Kind of like steaming the rug in your living room, move EVERYONE to one side of the country, sweep and replace as you go.

I would imagine that there would be a lot of complaining while this was going on. Rock throwing and what not.

Tatsuma: So far, what I can gather is that two rockets fell just south of Tel Aviv, and one fell in the water next to Yaffa.

This is the stupidest thing Hamas could have done.

Or, the best IDF can do to get an excuse to expedite their ethnic cleansing and genocide. It never seized to amaze me that all the rockets will 99.99% time fell somewhere where nothing will happen to no one (which is a good thing because they are civilians too). At the end, it always give them excuse to do what they want to do, steal more Palestinian land.

Iron dome on shoots at ones that are a direct threat to civilians. It does not target all incoming rockets/mortars/missiles.

Like Phalanx, it can be programmed to shoot only threats.

Looking at the bigger picture, it is worth bearing in mind that the Hamas leadership are not just focused on Israel. Hamas have provided services to the Palestinians, which, whether those services are that good or not, combine with the rhetoric and fear to create plenty of immediate support. The Hamas leadership is also really fully behind the idea of destroying the wider-than-Israel west - particularly America (not because of American support of Israel, but because of American leadership of the free world - to which it is ideologically opposed)

Wicked Chinchilla: ichiban: Palestinian militants fired nearly 150 rockets on Thursday, killing three people,

I certainly don't want these people to kill each other and wow, that's all sorts of scary, but...how do you fire 150 rockets and "only" kill three people?

The rockets are homemade, short ranged, have no guidance mechanisms, and small warheads.

Put a hand grenade on an over-sized hobby rocket and you have a crude idea of what they are launching. They aren't exactly lobbing scuds over the wall.

Actually, they are firing increasingly sophisticated missiles - supplied by Iran. But even the crude Kassams are intolerable - because the weapons are unsophisticated, Israel has no right to respond? If someone attacks you with a rock, do you not defend yourself because the weapon is primitive?

How many of the people posting in this forum have ever been out running and had to seek shelter when an air raid siren went off? It's not fun.

Why Would I Read the Article: But what's the latest with Patraeus?

He evidently changed the spelling of his name, for one....

I did a Google search and found 3.3 million hits for Patraeus, so I vote we let Subby off the hook on misspelling it.

Not Subby.

Although I am a bit peeved that three point three million hits with the wrong spelling makes it really hard for me to make a joke about Patraeus being dead since 200 B.C or whatever.

At the moment many of the conspiry theorists are trying to work up conspiracies based on the Latin-sounding name of Petraeus, some connecting it to Saint Malachy's prophecies of the Last Pope (No. 112 in his list of "future" popes), who would be Petrus Romanus (Pope Peter the Roman).

Since Benedict XVI is Pope 111 in this list, we've got one more to go, and probably sooner rather than later, seeing as Benedictus is 86 years old and looking kinda ghoulish.

Not that I believe in the prophecies of Saint Malachy, who I often call Saint Malarky before I can think of his name. He's Irish, too, so Saint Malarky is appropriate I think. There needs to be at least one Saint Malarky in the Church Calendar somewhere, even if he is only unofficial.

I nominate Saint Malarky as the Patron Saint of Liars, Fools, Morans, people who talk twaddle, Farkers, Talking Point propagandists, and Lawyers. The truthiness shall set you free to believe any old crap you want.

I nominate Saint Emygdius of Sienna as the Patron Saint of homosexuals. Look him up and you'll figure out why for yourself.
