queezyweezel: the fired 150 rockets and only 3 people died? Is Hamas the A-Team of the Middle East?

Yeah, but unreported are the number of jeeps that have rolled.

ichiban: Palestinian militants fired nearly 150 rockets on Thursday, killing three people,

I certainly don't want these people to kill each other and wow, that's all sorts of scary, but...how do you fire 150 rockets and "only" kill three people?

The rockets are homemade, short ranged, have no guidance mechanisms, and small warheads.

Put a hand grenade on an over-sized hobby rocket and you have a crude idea of what they are launching. They aren't exactly lobbing scuds over the wall.

Good headline. Democrats are definitely hoping for as much death and destruction as possible to get away from Patraeus and the other assorted liberal scumbags involved in that scandal. Total pieces of sh*t are just begging for this kind of dog-wagging.

shower_in_my_socks: This is the second time Israel has launched a Gaza war after an Obama election. I hope the women and children in the region who are about to die appreciate that it's all so the warhawks in Israel can send Barack Obama a message.

And they named the operation after a Bible verse, have no exit strategy, and won't say how this will actually solve anything. It's all so very, very George W. Bush/neo-cons circa 2003. But when has thinking with your d!cks ever gotten anyone in trouble?

Yea you are right is is so Israel's fault that Hamas is launching hundreds of rockets at civilian populated areas.

2012-11-15 12:44:52 PM

evoke: GAT_00: topcon: Israel should just totally ignore this and not fight back.

Totally.

Israel brought the rockets on themselves by telling Palestinians over and over again that they will not negotiate in good faith or make any meaningful concession. They forced a war, because they wanted a war. Much easier to justify wholesale acquisition of land by war than by moving settlers illegally on it.

Israel left Gaza in 2005. They don't want it back. What they want is the terrorists to stop shooting missles at their people in the south. Sounds reasonable to me.

Perhaps they should stop building settlements on land that isn't theirs, then?

With claims that Palestinian militants fired nearly 150 rockets on Thursday, killing three people, defence officials said Israel was prepared to launch a ground invasion into Gaza if necessary.

So far, at least 15 people, including Mr Jaabari, have been killed in more than 50 Israeli airstrikes - codenamed Operation Pillar Of Defence. Two young children were also among the dead.

Izzy has not reached their ordinary quota of 1 Israeli worth 10 'rabs one being a child yet, they will continue airstrikes until at least 1 more child and 14 adults are killed

The General is a Republican. As are the weirdo twins. I have no idea what his biographer's political affiliation is.

Tatsuma: So far, what I can gather is that two rockets fell just south of Tel Aviv, and one fell in the water next to Yaffa.

This is the stupidest thing Hamas could have done.

Yeah, it's outrageous that Palestinians in the Hamas Ghetto would lash out at the party confining them in a large open air prison while preventing them from seeking gainful employment, receiving basic medical care, and obtaining basic necessities & materials.

Not a whole lot different than the original use of rockets - to terrify the absolute bejeesus of the people you aim them at.

Good luck, stay safe, but don't expect change.

/cynical? Absolutely. Its a shiat situation which will never be changed without a miraculous "come to jesus/mohammed/moses" by all parties or a mongoloid extermination of one of the militant parties, and neither is about to happen.

Huh, hearing some interesting comments on the radio. Looks like the Mexican government might be condemning the attacks. There's talk that a good majority of the Mexicans support Palestine, and a former senator says we would gain more if Mexico and the rest of Latin America were to side with Palestine.

Man you are so right it is all about the numbers of rockets fark the fact that they are launching rockets in the first place. I mean if it is only a couple of rockets into a civilian population center its ok.

evoke: Hamas has committed a double war crime by deliberately launching rockets at civilian targets, while at the same time hiding among civilians. Israel is defending itself and its population.

Of course. But the argument amongst sane people isn't that Israel shouldn't make use of its forces; it's that it should judiciously -- and wherever possible avoid civilian casualty -- use its forces against Hamas.

The whole "but they didn't care about Israeli civilians" argument doesn't really work when you're a first world nation and not a radical terrorist group.

Tatsuma:
I don't think we should close the thread because of one stupid comment.

It does seem to neatly encapsulate what the motivating factors are, though. Palestine prodded Israel, Israel escalated further with 20(!) airstrikes, Palestine escalated further from the targeted assassination of one of their leaders, and so on.

Yes, a response is warranted when you're being fired upon by Katushyas. Using that response as a cover to escalate further is just that, escalating further. Seeing as this whole conflict is essentially founded on religion anyway, and GAT's comment isn't so stupid after all.

That's in the west bank, not Gaza. Regardless, building houses people can live in is something benevolent. It's to improve peoples lives. Launching deadly rockets against civilians isn't.

Vodka Zombie: I want to care, but I just seem to have reached a saturation with that part of the world. They've been killing each other for so long, and nothing is going to change that.

What's cute is that anyone thinks that Israel over reacts. It is a war, there is no over reaction. As long as the Gazan military targets civilians in Israel and hides amongst the Gazan population, there will be civilian casualties.

Why do we pretend that it isnt a war? Why do we pretend that civilians dont get hurt during a war?
If the Gazan warlords dont want civilians to get hurt, they should stay on military bases and not drive in cars with kiddies. LOL

Seriously. Do the Gazans WANT another occupation? While it SUCKS to be the average gazan, it also sucks that your democratically elected government has gone to war with another country.

Stop calling the militants. Pretending that your government is not in control is part of your problem.
Either they are not in control and therefore they are not a government, or they are in control and part of the problem.

If only there were some way for a government to control and stop its "civilians" from firing rockets.
And if you are not going to stop them, WHAT do you expect to happen in return?

WHOOPS, well NOW you are going to find out the hard way. AGAIN.

LOL

I actually expect Israel will annex both the West Bank and Gaza once this round is done.

FTFA:

"The casualties were the first since Israel's airstrikes on the Gaza Strip on Wednesday which killed Hamas' top military commander Ahmed al Jaabari."

and then...

The White House said the US strongly condemned the rocket fire from Gaza into Israel.

Spokesman Jay Carney said there is "no justification" for the violence perpetrated by Hamas and other terrorist organisations. And he called on those responsible to immediately stop the "cowardly acts".

Comic Book Guy: Palestine prodded Israel

I am sorry, 'prodded'? They fired nearly 500 rockets in a month. 500. Hundreds in the last couple of weeks. And then you think Israel overreacts by striking 20 times at those trying to fire rockets? Are you serious?

Lets weigh this out. This involves a bunch of furriegners getting killed in a usually violent part of the world versus a juicy sex scandal involving a fairly hot mistress and a high level US govt official.

We got to have priorities when it comes to news and frankly I only have a 15 minute or less attention span.

This will be another tragic and needless event in a region where this has become the norm and I'd love it if someday leadership on both sides can both take responsibility for the wrongs their side has commited as well as demonstrating a true interest in compromise and a path forward.

I'd love to believe that society everywhere will progress to become more and more secular and once the deep rooted religious spects get dropped people can take a serious look at their history and future without having everything obstructed by these crazy notions of gods and divine rights, but I'm not gonna hold my breath on that.
