This is the same environment that has lead to ridiculous overlabeling of retail products.

A problem on the oil rig was an excess of alarms, so when the one went off that meant "I'm going to explode in a minute" nobody cared.

But you're going to steal something on the way out, right? Do it for the dead oil workers.

In the interest of my own job security I won't provide many details of where I am, but I can say this; BP clearly got the message about safety, but they choose to apply it in massively stupid ways.

There are signs by the stairwells telling people they are required to use the handrails and they shouldn't talk on their phones while they use them, they provided a map marking three different contingency exits, and they provided detailed instructions on how to use my lanyard, so I don't accidentally choke myself.

BP has been like that for years. It was an initiative by former CEO Browne/

SquiggsIN: SnyderCat: I'm waitin' for $7 a gallon gas.

Gas is about $8.12 / gallon in the UK based on exchange rates. If Americans could do the math themselves, there'd be a lot less rage in regard to fuel prices.

Serious question here, but isn't the difference mostly taxes, and don't Brits get more services in exchange for paying more at the pump?

That would be funny if people who had some reason to deal with BP would take dumps in stairwells and whatnot. Unfortunatly that only hurts the cleaning stafff, or when they refuse to do that, the regular employees.

Someone where I work does disgusting stuff to the bathroom (bugers on the stall wall, piss on the floor, splatter poop all over the seat rim). We are a professional building, so I have to assume this person has some educations, but who exactly does he think he's sticking it to when he does this. The only logical explanation is he has contempt for us, his coworkers, yet he has to return to these same stalls every day.

I can't wait. We will be in the UK in just about a month.

That trip really is going to be a small fortune....

Honestly, I'm not sure. I remember when I was young, having to pump my own gas over in Philly, which I was absolutely fine with. I'm not sure why people can't just pimp there own gas and pay less for it in the long run.

The services I'm talking about come from the government in the form of single-payer healthcare insurance and other benefits, not the gas station attendant who pumps your gas for you when you pay "full service" prices.

Hmm....when I think of full service, I'm not really thinking of gas and healthcare and such....
