(HyperVocal)   Comic Sans probably isn't the best font choice for a domestic violence hotline, but it sure works for Miley Cyrus quotes   (hypervocal.com) divider line 42

I guess this marks me as hopelessly hoi polloi, but Comic Sans is a very readable font.

But I welcome subby, modmins, and hypervocal retro look at 1999.

Next up: Subby submits a link to an article from Lifehacker on how to reduce the sound of corduroy pants.

You may not wish to set your dissertation in Comic Sans, but

http://tmagazine.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/07/03/the-post-materialist-de s ign-gets-serious/

" the doggedly goofy font's irregular forms made it one of the easiest typefaces for dyslexics to read. "

Which probably means that on that Domestic Violence poster, it is easy for people to read when walking past it, or reading it from 2-10 feet away.

In fact, most of the examples from the article are places where Comic Sans, designed for small captions, appears to be used appropriately.

Except of course, subby and his hipster grandmother are all offended because the name "Comic" means to them it can only be used for Microsoft Bob's speech bubbles. Mac users would never use Comic Sans, amirite?

I wouldn't use Comic Sans for business or homework assignments, but it's just fine to use for general public use (like flyers) or things that are just a few words long and need to be read quickly.

It's the only font most Internet users can identify by sight, and graphic designers hate it when people other than them can do that.

Every morning, after I rise from bed, I fall to my knees and pray to whatever gods will listen that if my life ever gets so empty or devoid of meaning that I start caring about fonts, they just take me and end my wretched existence.

There's a difference between finding the right font for a 3-fold brochure you're designing, and whinging on because someone uses a font you dont like on something.

How to Use Comic Sans:

Don't.

There are a few profs who use it here, all female. It makes it really hard to take their class seriously. That font is a small step up from crayons and backwards letters. it seriously looks kiddie.

When most people see flyers written in the handwriting of infant clowns, they put on a face like they've just seen a child falling out of a wagon.

No, they don't. Most people don't give two flying farks about the fonts used in flyers or anywhere else. Those that do are in the extreme minority.

Oh, and children falling out of wagons/cars/planes is farking hysterical.

I'm just glad something has become more popular than Brush.

Comic Sans does not work well on the front window of a Pa's office during tax time though.

If you can't take something seriously because it's in Comic Sans, that's a really good sign that no one should make the mistake of taking you seriously.

Not really over my head. I was being deliberately obtuse and spent half an hour using google translate to see if any of those words matched words in other languages.
