There is no evidence the generals' female friends are spies, but Abi-Habib says the affair has raised concerns "of a so-called honey trap, which was a very famous spy tactic used by the KGB."

Wow. Just when you thought the plot couldn't get any thicker, it does.

Fox News, ladies and gentlemen.

You don't have to be an imbecile to believe Fox News, but it sure helps.

See Romney was right to warn us about the Soviet menace!

You know what's really sad?

Even if Benghazi were a real scandal, the conservative media and conservative pundits are going to completely f*cking discredit themselves and the entire investigation with nonsense like this.

Wow. Just when you thought the plot couldn't get any thicker, it does. Even cheap novels are usually more conventional with their story lines.

Jill Kelley the "Unpaid social liaison between generals and middle eastern diplomats" who had hundreds of thousands of dollars in unpaid debt for whom she was being sued could be a potential leak of information? Fox just picked up on this?

*Reads article*

Oh wait, it's more vomit about Benghazi.

I expected too much out of the tard brigade.

Here's your answer:

Editor's note: On Wednesday, November 14, retired Gen. David Petraeus announced he will voluntarily testify before Congress about the events in Benghazi on September 11, 2012.

Based on this note at the beginning of the article I'm assuming the article itself was another clueless Fox piece on how the resignation was an orchestrated method out of testifying because that assumption best plays into their anti-Obama premise. Not going to bother reading past the correction.

The Republican thoughts on the affair remind me of "The Last Boyscout".

"Joe, it just happened."

"Sure Mikey, you just were helping out one day, slipped and accidentally stuck your d*ck in my wife. 'Whoops! Sorry Mrs. C. This just isn't my day."

/kinda paraphrased
//funny movie

They're also more realistic than Fox News.

Considering that Petraeus met this woman in 2006, there's a non-zero chance that they had their first fling during Bush's term. For the sake of argument, let's say that they did. What would Fox have said if it had come to light back then?

2012-11-15 09:50:28 AM
Coverup of what? Oh yeah, being blah.

2012-11-15 09:50:41 AM
It's good to see the conservative media establishment taking to heart the concerns by their more circumspect scribes about wildly disseminating misinformation and conspiracy theories in very public forums.

2012-11-15 09:50:45 AM
Wait, he's testifying?

I was told that he resigned, which means there's no possible way for him to ever testify about anything, which is why Obama's single handedly planted the demolition charges in the consulate.

2012-11-15 09:51:15 AM
If Petraeus's affair was publicize to derail the Benghazi investigation then the republicans would be better off delaying the hearings until Petraeus thing settles down. Instead the GOP is pushing Benghazi.

Fluorescent Testicle: What would Fox have said if it had come to light back then?

Considering the lynchpin of this piece is "There is no evidence the generals' female friends are spies... the plot [gets] thicker", I suspect the only way you're going to get an answer to that question is if you start chugging turpentine until you're capable of "thinking" like these idiots.

Really, who's going to take them seriously when they say "Obama dropped the ball on this... but was responsible for blackmailing a general into not testifying, but here he is testifying. Also, Obama forced him to have that affair"

Muta: If Petraeus's affair was publicize to derail the Benghazi investigation then the republicans would be better off delaying the hearings until Petraeus thing settles down. Instead the GOP is pushing Benghazi.

They have little choice at this point but to press on. A total of exactly zero farks are given by the GOP about what actually happened or the people who died, they only started trying to railroad Obama with it because they thought they could make a scandal to help Romney win. What are they gonna do now? Admit their entire approach to this point has been a complete farce and try to reset the whole thing?

I said it last night, I'll say it again: there was something to be learned from this event that may have been useful in protecting against future consulate attacks, but now we'll never learn it because the republicans turned this whole thing into a political football and completely discredited the entire investigation.

Republicans get Americans killed.

Why are they saying its some convoluted mess of a story with many threads in a tangled ball of scandaltwine? A man had an affair. It has impacted other peoples lives in many ways. How is this confusing?

I have to keep reminding myself that they're Fox news, the least honest news organisation there has ever been. The whole "there's no evidence but still, it's clear Obama did this, wow!" is about as blatant as they can be.

It reminds me of something that may be obscure to American farkers, but there was a TV show here in Britain called Brass Eye, that spoofed news. They convinced a minor celebs to join a campaign against paedophilia called "Nonce sense", with the tag line "I'm talking nonce sense", nonce being a slang word for a paedo. One Radio DJ said in all seriousness, as instructed, "paedophiles have more in common, genetically, with a crab than they do with you or me. There's no actual evidence for that, but it is scientific fact". Highlighting how people get so caught up in the desire to have a witch hunt that they don't pay any attention to facts, just the occasional buzz word and they're off.

So it's similar in the sense that it's Fox news saying "There's no evidence, but it is fact", and this time it's the viewers and readers going "hmm, yes, makes sense, we've clearly found the smoking gun that proves Obama is a witch".

Well, they have to impeach him for something, and without a hint that he's got interns blowing him in the Oval Office, you have to take what you can get.

Brass Eye is one of the greatest shows in the history of television. It is a f*cking crime against humanity that it's never aired in the US. That and Jam and The Day Today are the reason I bought my first region-free DVD player years ago.

I guess it also changes the story in the news cycle away from how poorly the GOP did in the last election and how the Rightwing Media was partially to blame.

That's coming up...it's going to be a beauty too.....You see, Obama is going to make him an Ambassador, and send him to some Middle Eastern country...then guess what happens.....Yup! The sequel to that other movie gets released, there is attack on that embassy and the issue resolves itself......though this time they will state it was unequivocally a terrorist attack

I'm still wondering why he was the sole guy who testified to Congress, weeks after the attack, and still blamed a video.  I doubt he will change his testimony except to say "After a full investigation, my opinion varies a small amount."  But dude, everyone, even Susan Rice and Jay Carney, had given up on the video as cause by then.

Also, I'd like to know if there is any truth that the Bhengazi CIA annex was holding prisoners.  Was Petraeus covering up for that, or did he really think it was about a video?  Also, who doesnt' become head of the CIA and sleep with women?  I thought that was part of the attraction of being a super spy?

I still don't get the "debate". Was it a terrorist attack? Yes. Did it take place under cover of a shiatstorm triggered by a bigoted video? Yes.
I fail to see the mutual exclusivity here.

Agreed.

The same day there were protests about a stupid movie in multiple countries.
