Well it took 7 posts to realize that, so apparently it's the equivalent of Chinese arithmetic in the linguistic world. Well-played.

5 Hour Energy drink does not have a high caffeine content. Redline however.... bottled meth. Friend of mine was a former meth addict, took a sip of Redline and said it was much stronger than anything he had ever done.

2012-11-15 10:20:55 AM
Did they die after drinking one or possibly more than one? 5 hour energy doesn't seem to have any one thing that could be THAT dangerous in small quantities. If you slammed a few of these in one sitting, that could be a problem. I dunno. Like Dr. Tran, I'm not a doctor.

I can't imagine how stupid/callous someone would have to be to drink energy drinks when pregnant.

Obviously, they died after drinking more hours of energy than there were hours in a day.

Redbull is the largest energy drink company and according to their website RedBull sold 4.631 Billion cans worldwide in 2011. And 5 hour energy and monster are making money hand over fist. So with millions of cans/energy shots being sold in the US every year, if there's only 13 deaths that might maybe have involved them in the last 4 years I'm not sure I see that there's a real problem.

Id bet thats the case. Be it for energy while at work, or worse yet to try and get some sort oh high, its likely people are drinking way too much. Most high caffeine drinks/shots like that say right on the bottle not to drink more than one or two in an 8 hour period. If your downing one every hour...thats probably not good.

Also it seems people with heart conditions are drinking the things without any consideration for whats in them, and how it might aggravate the condition.

Doesn't Tylenol (Acetaminophen) cause about 450 something deaths a year by people taking WAY too much of the stuff? That's what happens when you over exceed the stated dosage morans. 5 hour clearly states not to drink more than 2 in a day. Cafeine can obviously kill you if you take too much. Hell, so can water. Stop being a moran and blaming others for your stupidity

Their pink breast cancer car looks cool though, can't we give them a break and use 5 Hour with caution?

cdn.faniq.com

I told everyone a couple of years ago. Energy Drinks will be the tobacco companies of the 2000's. I think 5 Hour is fine if you have maybe one a week or less, if you're pounding 2-3 a day, it's not good for you. RedBull has been linked to blood clots, etc.

Five Hour Energy is absolutely disgusting. It tastes awful, gives me instant heartburn, and makes me feel mildly nauseous and jittery for about 30 minutes, then... nothing.

I've had it once, I won't have it again.

Interestingly, other similar "energy" / highly caffeinated drinks like Red Bull, Monster, Jolt, etc. have basically no effect on me at all. It's just Five Hour that makes me feel sick.

/seldom have any of them though

NephilimNexus:

When I see women starting a campaign to prevent prostate cancer then I'll start collecting pink ribbons.

Silly, women don't have prostates.

And apparently you don't realize that "support" goes one way. It goes with the territory: when was the last time a woman you were dating bought you a drink or took you to dinner? Unless things changed in the past few years, you had to be officially engaged by buying her a big diamond before she'd think of even going dutch.

Of course once you're married she'll buy you things, using your joint checking account or your credit card number.

The last time women supported men's health issues was the early days of AIDS, and even the it was gay women supporting gay men getting treatment. Not exactly applicable to ordinary everyday hetero experience: when straight men have a problem they're supposed to suck it suffer silently or get bootstrappy and cure themselves somehow.

Maybe this helps account for "FTM" transsexuals: manhood has so many drawbacks. Nor are gay men are immune to the inherent punishments: they're not "non-men" just another kind of man, with more in common with straight guys than most people think about.

Hm, good thing I came across this article, I was considering getting a 5 hour energy today cause I have a shiat ton of driving to do to get to Milwaukee for the Dethklok show. From Chicago, to NIU, to Milwaukee, then back to NIU, and then home to Chicago. Gah! And I've already been up since 5 am!!!

The 5-Hour Energy TV commercials have a sleazy amateuristic quality that I find completely revolting. I would never buy a product advertised that way.
Plus the whole "5-Hour Energy" crap is so contrived. Just call it Caffeine-in-a-Bottle. At least then I'd respect what they're trying to sell.

2012-11-15 01:40:33 PM
5 hour energy is not highly caffeinated. It's got about as much as a cup of coffee.

Namely, it is a massive amount of B vitamins designed to kick-start your metabolism.

Can't these farking retards even read the ingredients label?

No, seriously, a 5-hour is a good start for recovering from a hangover. Blast of caffeine and vitamins, wash it down with a liter of filtered water.

Meanwhile, men can and do get breast cancer. It's far more frequent in women, but it's not exclusively a women's health issue. Meanwhile, women generally have a harder time growing mustaches, and apparently the mustache is the designated way to celebrate "Movember." (It's prostate awareness month right now!) In any case, boobies (and moobies) are far more, well, visible than prostates. More people spend time actively thinking about them. The boobies, anyway.

/As a woman, even I think the corporate pinkwashing has gotten a bit out of hand.

Five hour death. Hours and hours of death.

Tat'dGreaser: What a bunch of horsesh*t. It's like when experts claim that someone died from smoking because they died in a car accident and just happened to be a smoker 10 years ago.

As I actually read the full article, this was pretty much what I was thinking. Out of all the times that so many people have used it, there are only 15 cases, and even then it was merely cited in the reports, and no clear details are given. It sounds to me like it's a correlation/causation thing. I'm also willing to bet that these people are drinking more than one.

From the 5-Hour Energy Bottle in my hand:
"RECOMMENDED USE: Take on half (1/2) bottle for moderate energy. Take one whole bottle for maximum energy. Do not exceed two bottles daily, consumed several hours apart. [...]

CAUTION: [...] Limit caffeine products. [...] Do not take if you are pregnant or nursing, or under 12 years of age. If you are taking medication and/or have a medical condition, consult your doctor before use."

We know at least one woman ignored the above warning, so there's no accounting for stupidity.

I have one every few days, and then I have HALF of one, maybe. I've never had an entire energy drink in one sitting because they tend to hit me pretty fast. I'll take a sip or two and wait a minute. Usually I'm good after a few sips. Some of these drinks will tell you that they contain 2 servings. It's all about moderation and following the intended use of a product. You're not meant to chug 5-6 of these in a day.

2012-11-16 08:49:38 AM

supayoda: You're not meant to chug 5-6 of these in a day.

But this is Amurika

If I wasn't meant to consume the entire thing in one go, and have one for every meal, they would make the serving so large it would be physically impossible to consume more then 1 a day.
