"Everybody has a right to vote, but nobody in town knows anyone who's black."

This reminds me of the "I can't believe Nixon won. I don't know anyone who voted for him" Pauline Kael quote that the right always trots out to prove liberals are out of touch. Except that one is fake and this one is real.

This is not a repeat from that dude in Philly on election day?

2012-11-15 08:59:27 AM
Maybe the guy should ask himself why no one he associates with knows a black neighbor before he opens his mouth again.

I'm not sure Maine even exists. I don't know anyone from Maine. Do any of you?

2012-11-15 09:10:09 AM
If this is indicative of white Mainers, and I were black, I'd keep a low profile, too.

I know someone who claimed he lived in Maine but I could never verify it. Maybe I'll send him a thank you note. Then I'll know!

I've been to Maine.

It's like you cross some sort of rift in time and space and end up in Alabama when you go over the border.

It gets worse than that. I had a family member vacation in Maine and when he returned, I kept asking him about his trip and he could never describe the place in solid, clear terms. Every description he gave was like some sort of vague dream. It's almost as if while he was there, they erased his memory of the place!

Creepy.

"I'm not politically correct and maybe I shouldn't have said these voters were black, but anyone who suggests I have a bias toward any race or group, frankly, that's sleazy."

I'm not racist but some of my best friends are...wait.

Obama won Maine by 107,000 votes. There are 16,000 black people living in Maine. I'm sure I see now where this guy is coming from.

I've lived in Maine the last 3 years. Ask me anything.

And if he did tell a story about his trip, the ending fell apart and felt tacked on!

Why would you? I did a 25 year tour of Texas. Funny that all the jobs Americans won't do there, they will do here.

You see that folks? This person didn't actually answer my question. Proof that once you move to Maine, you are never allowed to leave!

My guess would be that he is alleging that black people were brought in from out of state in order to vote. I don't know how things work in Maine (if it truly does exist), but that would just not work here. You can't vote unless you are registered, and if you are registered your name WILL be on the voter roll at your polling place. Unless they actually fraudulently registered as well, but I can only imagine there are checks against that.

Romney would have won Maine if not for those dozens of black voters.

You can vote a provisional ballot if you are not on the rolls here (if here really is here).

Do you know if they get counted, or are they held for counting if it's withing a margin of closeness?

They're still counting them in Ohio (which I can confirm firsthand does exist), even though it won't change the outcome. I'm pretty sure that they are disqualified if the person can't be confirmed to live in Maine. I'm not sure what will happen to Maine's electoral votes if they are found not to exist though, but it would still be an Obama win.

Everybody has a right to vote, but nobody in town knows anyone who's black.

I believe it. 100% of the people I know from Maine are white (sample size = 1).

These voter fraud theories require conspiracies that are so vast, powerful and secretive that frankly there's no way to overcome such systemic corruption without destroying the whole system. The theories boil down to the conspiracies being so powerful that the people complaining about them are utterly boned, entirely.

What a black person from Maine might look like.

Walker: I went to Maine in June. Never saw one black person. It was weird.

A friend from Colorado came to visit me once, and as we were driving down Hillsborough Street in Raleigh he kept staring out the window at people on the side walk. After a few minutes of this, I finally turn to him and simply ask, "What?" He looks at me and says, "You sure do have a lot of black people here." To which I responded, "You are aware of North Carolina's past, right?"

I'm fairly certain that the entire state of Maine is a fabrication by Stephen King.

Well, in this guy's defense, I think the winter in Maine lasts from about October to late May. I don't know too many brothers who want to deal with that kind of cold, voluntarily.

people from the North aren't racists, until they see the one black guy that lives up there

Dude, Ohio is far too much America's grimy asshole not to exist.

Plus I was born, raised, and still live there.

Who is Spain?"

"Why is Hitler?"

"When is right?"

"Where was that stooped and mealy-colored old man I used to call Poppa when the merry-go-round broke down?"

"How was trump at Munich?"

I, too, am shocked there are black people in Maine.

Though my shock is of the more upbeat sort that comes with a smile. "Huzzah, there are black folk in Maine!"

Y'know, rather than the brooding desolation that comes with assuming the arrival of non-white folk means the abject destruction of the very fabric of our society. Y'know, Teabaggers.

So, can we do away with this notion that northeastern Republicans are the "smart" ones?

There is one for about every 10 square miles.
