Using the Mayflower moving truck as imagery for this story displays a cleverness I didn't expect from Breitbart. And I think that's the first time I have ever said a nice thing about them.

A lot of the rightwing pundantry has been shockingly insightful after this election loss.  Ann Coulter wrote an article the other day and I agreed with 85% of it.  Shocking.

2012-11-15 08:46:35 AM
I love how he refers to this as a "fringe" movement when 99% of the commenters under the article agree with the secessionists and think the author is a RINODIABLO commie plant.

The trap works because the media exposure brings it to the attention of a bigger audience and suddenly 675,000 on our side overreact and do the same dumb thing.

"It's not our fault! You trapped us into jumping off that cliff by running a news story about the first guy who did it!"

uses it to tarnish and marginalize the Right as a whole

Might the reason for the tarnishing the Right stem from the Right's penchant for tarnishing and marginalizing all other parts of society that do not lick their psycho-conservative shoes when they throw their political temper tantrum du jour? Sauce for the goose and all that.

(as usual, the generalized conservative rebuttal will begin in 3, 2, 1......) (youtube)

I actually had to click a Breitbart link because Conservatives have done so many dumb things I wasn't sure which one it was.

Since I don't click on Breitbart links I can only assume that the dumb thing that conservatives did was vote for Mitt.

Well, when your fellow wingnut web sites like WND, Townhall, and American Thinker keep crying "The States are seceding!!!" you can kind of see why we're making fun.

To the late Breitbart's credit, he did disagree with Joe "Porn Stache" Farah on how far to push the stoopid, especially on the Birfer thing.

2012-11-15 09:34:18 AM
Other than whining about the "leftist media", the guy's on the right track. He's basically saying we mocked the libs that said they'd leave the country in 2000 and 2004. We should mock the cretins in our party who are doing something similar now. Like vartian, I think that is the first time I ever said anything nice about a Breitbart link.

The Soviets knew how to deal with people who wanted to secede or leave the motherland.

We should arrest these people as "terrorists" and use their gulag labor to finish that containment wall on the Mexico border, and build another to the north.

2012-11-15 09:54:58 AM
I don't know, the Right does a pretty good job of tarnishing and marginalizing itself all on its own.

I think it's very telling that the author says it's "not fair" that they have to take responsibility for their own. The concept of responsibility apparently shouldn't apply to them. At all. Ever. Because that's not fair.

While the guy makes a valid point about how easy it is to take a handful of crazies and use them to typify one entire side of the political spectrum, the part that rings hollow is that the right does the SAME GODDAMNED THING to the Democrats and liberals.

Republicans love to point fingers and say how Democrats/Liberals are all lazy mooches who want handouts, never mind the fact that the moochers make up a very very small portion of the population and that there is no concrete evidence linking Democratic party affiliation with mooching. But they will whine endlessly when their party gets labeled as a bunch of crazy, bible thumping zealots perfectly willing to resort to violence to get their way. At the same time, Republicans are beholden to Reagan's 11th Commandment (Thou shalt never speak ill of fellow Republicans) so their refusal to marginalize and condemn the crazies within their ranks equals complicity in the madness they don't want anyone to notice or connect to them.

Can't have it both ways, chuckleheads.

What people like him don't want to admit is that the cretins are a large percentage of the GOP's voters. These are the people that think Obama is a muslim communist out to destroy America, and they can be counted on to show up to the polls and vote. The GOP can't alienate them, or else they'll never win another election again.

The reason the crazies are driving is because when you say what they want they give more in both time and money. The GOP ground game was dying before they embraced their various reactionaries. On the other hand, now that they've galvanized them no one screams louder when they don't get their way. I'm not saying they're acting like a bunch of six year olds, but who else is quiet until you start paying attention and blows a gasket if you do something they don't like once you do.

"Drive the bus" in this case, refers to funding and organizing, two things the Teabaggers lacked until the GOP provided them. The GOP has been funding and organizing this astro-turf movement and the result is the self-cannibalization of the GOP.

For this author or any member of the GOP to now point out "Hey these guys are crazy, ignore them!" that's just coming too late. Yes they're crazy. We've been telling you that for YEARS. Did you just now notice how crazy those people are? Did you not hear us telling you again and again how crazy they are? Quit funding and organizing them. Load them back onto the buses and drive them back home.

You folks don't understand. This is a war to end all wars for the very soul of America. A winner-takes-all battle to protect our God-given freedoms from that Election Stealing-Unconstitutional-Commie-Socialist-Fascist-Illegal-Muslim Antichrist who would oppress us by giving those worthless, mooching 47% percenters absolutely everything they don't deserve. Those people already get free Obamaphones and who knows how many government checks a month through fraud and certainly all on my dime. Not to mention their horde of illegitimate hoodlum kids get free or reduced cost meals at those degenerate and Godless public schools. The only thing those future grifting inmates are taught is to put their hand out to Big Government for whatever they want and nothing else of any real value.

The liberals are now squandering all that is left in the coffers and ruining this country for good. It's the evil socialisms that might make life better for other people that makes my blood boil! If they were truly righteous, the Lord would bless them with great abundance, for God protects and nurtures His own. Jesus has blessed me with everything. I worked my whole life for Social Security and Medicare. I pay my taxes and my debts. I live by the Good Book. And so, I have been rewarded.

But those people, they're thieves! They can't stop pickpocketing my money! And now, not only am I going to be taxed at a big-time higher rate, I am going to be forced to pay more out the wazoo for my health care and free birth control for whores until I have nothing left in the bank. The Death Panel will surely vote to execute me if I get sick for lack of funds because the damn government and all these loafing single mothers and illegals sucked it dry. I know. I've watched Fox News for years. I know what's really going on. Thanks a lot, Obummer Bin Stealin' Al Taxbongo!

All the signs of Revelation have come. I am now Rapture Ready. I have fought against the abortionists, the feminists, the gays, the Muslims and other apostates, and the Illuminati NWO that is the true face of the UN. I have enough in me for one last fight against the flesh and blood Satan himself. I have my basement stocked with provisions, firearms, and batteries for my portable radio so I can tune into Rush when the septic tank finally hits the fan blades. That will be a true comfort when the power gets cut and I'm in the trenches fighting for what's mine. Now, I'm just sitting here cleaning my guns and waiting for who knows what. Jesus, save us!

Minus 1 Charisma: conservatives are racist
conservatives are anti-women
conservatives are homophobes

How are these untrue? At best the only defense a conservative can offer against any of these accusations is "I'm not racist/misogynist/homophobic, I'm just completely willing to throw blacks/women/gays under the bus in order to get a tax break."

I mean, conservative policies are racist, misogynist, and homophobic. Conservative politicians as well as conservative media readily engages in fanning the flames of prejudices in order to get votes. All of this is well documented and factually undeniable. Which means anyone who is conservative in any meaningful way is tacitly supporting this racist, misogynist, and homophobic agenda.

So yeah, in the grand scheme of things, the statement "Conservatives are racist, misogynist, and homophobic." seems entirely factual.

That's my favorite line from the article.

So 675,000 people bought into a media fueled petition. I wouldn't call that an overreaction so much as the support of an idea. Yes, actual secession is a dumb idea, but the point of this petition was to express disatisfaction with the current adminstration rather than an actual application for secession - not quite the mass exodus you're trying to spin this into.

It does make me wonder about the ones that actually thought they were applying for secession though *snicker*

It's actually kind of a shame the repubs didn't make Santorum or Bachmann their standardbearer this year. Then there would be absolutely no doubt that it was hyper-right wing extremism that lost the election and we wouldn't have to listen to another four years of "No! We lost because we didn't go far enough to the right, not because we tried to appeal to the center!" Four more years of this crap...

FTA - Step 3: The trap works because the media exposure brings it to the attention of a bigger audience and suddenly 675,000 on our side overreact and do the same dumb thing.

And -THAT- is the essence of everything that's wrong with conservatism. That's how it invariably ends up off in bugnuts radical la-la-land on every. single. issue.

1.) Because conservatism is nothing but "anti-liberals-ism" at its core, conservatives must always choose the anti-liberal position.
2.) Because conservatives must choose the anti-liberal position, distinction is achieved by being the MOST anti-liberal conservative.
3.) Because someone ALWAYS reaches for that title in the attempt to gain that distinction, the news invariably covers it... liberals invariably criticize it, and 675,000 of the truest-bluest-most passionate conservatives the world has ever seen invariably jump out of their farking chairs to shriek "hell yeah!!! me too!!! fark them liberals!!! I hate them liberals enough to shiat my own pants!!! Watch, I'll show you!!! See!?!?!?"

I was able to express plenty of dissatisfaction with the Bush administration without ever dressing up as a revolutionary war soldier OR signing a petition for secession.

But then, I actually know what's going on and can speak knowledgeably about the issues which bother me.

I can understand the difficulty these people face when they aren't allowed to say the one word they really really want to say.

clowncar on fire: So 675,000 people bought into a media fueled petition.

Yeah, that's the ticket. It's the left wing lamestream "gotcha" media that tricked conservatives into acting like assholes.

We have to immediately mock and marginalize these people, not coddle lunacy and sympathize with stupid. At least if they can't be associated with the conservative movement, they're somebody else's problem.

I got news chucklehead, these Bozos are the republican party and you can thank 20 years of Rush O'Hanitty for that.

jj325: I'm amazed John Nolte actually wrote something that makes sense. Not surprised that the Breitbarters instantly turned on him. They were calling Sean Hannity a "Lib" the other day when he mentioned amnesty

kronicfeld: The trap works because the media exposure brings it to the attention of a bigger audience and suddenly 675,000 on our side overreact and do the same dumb thing.

"It's not our fault! You trapped us into jumping off that cliff by running a news story about the first guy who did it!"

Well, isn't that so much easier than critically evaluating the things your side says and does so that you don't just blindly follow someone just because some liberal said something mean to them?

Step 1: Complain about "the liberal media"
Step 2: Do something worthy of attention
Step 3: Complain about the media covering it
Step 3a: Complain about the media NOT covering it.

Dear GOP/Tea Party - You ever wonder how many of these "conservatives" posting online are actually your people? Ever wonder how many Libtards are there in every forum, provoking and pushing back the boundaries of what is acceptable?

You embraced the racists, the greedy and the low information warmongers - thank you for providing us Liberals the canvas upon which we paint you in whatever style we choose to. Just try and settle your extremists down, call for order and lay out rational reasons why they must bite their tongues for a bit - and I will be there on your forums calling people RINOs and babbling about abortion and Jesus.

Enjoy being ratfarked, you pieces of human garbage.

Yeah, right. There was a trap.

A trap to make conservatives behave stupidly.

We know they just can't resist coming out of their caves to breathe the oxygen in the air. It was a simple matter to ensure there was plenty of oxygen in the air. We had to avoid deep breathing for days.

While it's not fair, sometimes we really do have to take responsibility for our own and even those who claim to be our allies.

Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to present The Party of Personal Responsibility!!!!

Jesus, talk about being a crybaby... 'It's not fair that we have to take responsibility for the whack-a-doodle assholes we helped create. Grow up and act like a man, you douche.

It's almost worth risking being on a mailing list to personally tell this dude to man up and quit whining about EVERYTHING.

I was on some teabagger lists, for the chuckles. It was basically day after day of whackadoodle shiat occasionally punctuated by complaining about the librul media, either for covering them or not covering them.

Those are some dumb, pathetic muthufrkkas

James!: A lot of the rightwing pundantry has been shockingly insightful after this election loss.  Ann Coulter wrote an article the other day and I agreed with 85% of it.  Shocking.

You're saying one of the following is true:
Fifteen percent of the article consisted of some form of the word "liberal"
or
You agreed with everything except the verbs and adverbs.

Well done.

That Mayflower truck logo? It's a hand giving you the finger.

I live in Oklahoma. I also have an Obama/Biden bumper sticker, and have since 2008.

Last week my car was keyed.

a Bbart article that attempts to quell the off the rails stupidity coming from the GOP is a lot like a weight watchers meeting at Burger King.

hackalope: The reason the crazies are driving is because when you say what they want they give more in both time and money.

Selective memory much? The MSM was holding the bullhorn for the fringe & mainstream left from 2000 to 2008. I'm sorry, I'm not buying this sentiment.

No, but you're definitely one of the select few who "remember" that version of how media outlets (other than Fox News) treated Bush.

Amos Quito: TWe should arrest these people as "terrorists" and use their gulag labor to finish that containment wall on the Mexico border, and build another to the north.

I agree. The one on the north should be 20- make that 30- feet high, with a moat full of man eating alligators and cows on both sides. And land mines. Plenty of those.

You really can't trust those sneaky snowbacks. After all, they sent the terrorists that committed 9/11.

Do It.

Three Crooked Squirrels: Other than whining about the "leftist media", the guy's on the right track. He's basically saying we mocked the libs that said they'd leave the country in 2000 and 2004. We should mock the cretins in our party who are doing something similar now. Like vartian, I think that is the first time I ever said anything nice about a Breitbart link.

Except both sides are not equivalent. The libs wanted to leave (which is their right if a country will accept them) the republitards want to secede.

I mean, it's just SO SAD.
