Using the Mayflower moving truck as imagery for this story displays a cleverness I didn't expect from Breitbart. And I think that's the first time I have ever said a nice thing about them.

A lot of the rightwing pundantry has been shockingly insightful after this election loss.  Ann Coulter wrote an article the other day and I agreed with 85% of it.  Shocking.

2012-11-15 08:46:35 AM
I love how he refers to this as a "fringe" movement when 99% of the commenters under the article agree with the secessionists and think the author is a RINODIABLO commie plant.

The trap works because the media exposure brings it to the attention of a bigger audience and suddenly 675,000 on our side overreact and do the same dumb thing.

"It's not our fault! You trapped us into jumping off that cliff by running a news story about the first guy who did it!"

2012-11-15 08:51:47 AM
uses it to tarnish and marginalize the Right as a whole

Might the reason for the tarnishing the Right stem from the Right's penchant for tarnishing and marginalizing all other parts of society that do not lick their psycho-conservative shoes when they throw their political temper tantrum du jour? Sauce for the goose and all that.

(as usual, the generalized conservative rebuttal will begin in 3, 2, 1......) (youtube)

That's my favorite line from the article.

I actually had to click a Breitbart link because Conservatives have done so many dumb things I wasn't sure which one it was.

2012-11-15 09:09:39 AM
Since I don't click on Breitbart links I can only assume that the dumb thing that conservatives did was vote for Mitt.

2012-11-15 09:14:20 AM
Well, when your fellow wingnut web sites like WND, Townhall, and American Thinker keep crying "The States are seceding!!!" you can kind of see why we're making fun.

To the late Breitbart's credit, he did disagree with Joe "Porn Stache" Farah on how far to push the stoopid, especially on the Birfer thing.

2012-11-15 09:34:18 AM
Other than whining about the "leftist media", the guy's on the right track. He's basically saying we mocked the libs that said they'd leave the country in 2000 and 2004. We should mock the cretins in our party who are doing something similar now. Like vartian, I think that is the first time I ever said anything nice about a Breitbart link.

2012-11-15 09:37:40 AM
The Soviets knew how to deal with people who wanted to secede or leave the motherland.

We should arrest these people as "terrorists" and use their gulag labor to finish that containment wall on the Mexico border, and build another to the north.

2012-11-15 09:54:58 AM
I don't know, the Right does a pretty good job of tarnishing and marginalizing itself all on its own.

2012-11-15 09:58:22 AM
I'll just leave this here.

Glass houses, Mr. Nolte.

These same pundit trash spent the past 30 years riling these people up to a level of hatred toward their fellow Americans that should be reserved for your worst enemies. You hear story after story coming out of how this extremist rhetoric has ruined lives after the election. fark this guy and the other shiatbags like him who are suddenly trying to calm people down.

Sure you can. The same way you fix a cat or dog. Of course with Republicans, you would need to use the size of tools the vets use when they fix gerbils or mice.

The problem is that the crazies attack the moderates who are driving; look at how many "moderate" Republicans have lost primary challenges to the Tea Party in the last two elections.

Our nano-violin production no longer being sufficient, we are now investing heavily in Yocto-violin development for stories such as this one.

While it's not fair, sometimes we really do have to take responsibility for our own and even those who claim to be our allies.

I think it's very telling that the author says it's "not fair" that they have to take responsibility for their own. The concept of responsibility apparently shouldn't apply to them. At all. Ever. Because that's not fair.

2012-11-15 11:51:00 AM
I know it isn't saying much, but that might have been the most reasonable article I've ever seen on Breitbart's site.

And here I thought fairness was a liberal ideal - at least that's what conservatives keep saying.

Usually Breitbart and the rest of the right wingery would coddle a group like this and make them feel at home, so, you have to at least give them credit for starting to recognize crazy.

While the guy makes a valid point about how easy it is to take a handful of crazies and use them to typify one entire side of the political spectrum, the part that rings hollow is that the right does the SAME GODDAMNED THING to the Democrats and liberals.

Republicans love to point fingers and say how Democrats/Liberals are all lazy mooches who want handouts, never mind the fact that the moochers make up a very very small portion of the population and that there is no concrete evidence linking Democratic party affiliation with mooching. But they will whine endlessly when their party gets labeled as a bunch of crazy, bible thumping zealots perfectly willing to resort to violence to get their way. At the same time, Republicans are beholden to Reagan's 11th Commandment (Thou shalt never speak ill of fellow Republicans) so their refusal to marginalize and condemn the crazies within their ranks equals complicity in the madness they don't want anyone to notice or connect to them.

Can't have it both ways, chuckleheads.

What people like him don't want to admit is that the cretins are a large percentage of the GOP's voters. These are the people that think Obama is a muslim communist out to destroy America, and they can be counted on to show up to the polls and vote. The GOP can't alienate them, or else they'll never win another election again.

Amidst all the "SECEDE KENYAN MUSLIM SOCIALIST COMMUNUST SECEDE OVERLORD GAYS WILL RAPE YOU AT YOUR TRADITIONAL WEDDING AND WILL OUTLAW CHRISTIANITY SECEDE" herpty derp, there are a significant number of Republicans who have pulled their heads out of their asses, taken note of the situation, and realize that they may need to rethink their strategy or else continue to margianalize themselves from the rest of the country.

I never thought John Nolte would be one of the saner ones.

/still needs to get out of his glass house, though

2012-11-15 12:05:13 PM
The reason the crazies are driving is because when you say what they want they give more in both time and money. The GOP ground game was dying before they embraced their various reactionaries. On the other hand, now that they've galvanized them no one screams louder when they don't get their way. I'm not saying they're acting like a bunch of six year olds, but who else is quiet until you start paying attention and blows a gasket if you do something they don't like once you do.
