I agree with most of what I read in TFA (except I still think he's batty over economic issues). Didn't watch the actual speech, though...

Seems to me, though, that RON PAUL still clings to some kind of naivete that should've been eliminated long ago through constant exposure to Big Washington. *shrug*

His last speech? Good, now maybe Congress can move along and do something without his insane rants every other day.

Has Ron Paul ever actually left the mindset most of us have while we're going through puberty?

I don't need to see somebody my grandfather's age stamp his feet and sigh that he didn't get what he wants.

He went to Washington to change America for the best.

It's sad to see Americans turning theirs backs on principles our country was founded on.

Good riddance. I can't believe how many people actually fell for his shtick over the years. I am happy to say that even when I was a stoned college kid I never did. He's just another ordinary every-day republican who managed to find a pretty effective marketing scheme.

Conservatism is a respectable ideology, as is libertarianism. However, the combination of the two leads inevitably leads to an inordinate amount of hypocrisy and stupidity.
Congress will be a better place without him.

FTFA: "I have thought a lot about why those of us who believe in liberty, as a solution, have done so poorly in convincing others of its benefits," he said on the House floor. "If liberty is what we claim it is - the principle that protects all personal, social and economic decisions necessary for maximum prosperity and the best chance for peace - it should be an easy sell. Yet, history has shown that the masses have been quite receptive to the promises of authoritarians which are rarely if ever fulfilled."

You should have asked me, Ron. I could have saved you a bunch of time.

It's because you and your fellow Paul-tards are long on self-righteous generalities and short on specifics. You're long on self-aggrandizing statements of dogma, and short on pragmatic solutions.

It's because, at the end of the day, most of your followers are a pack of half-wit bigots desperately searching for a quasi-philosophical fig leaf to cover their all-to-obvious racism, homophobia, misogyny and their sixth-grade understanding of political science and public policy.

The Republic will now be a slightly better place with you playing shuffleboard instead of occupying a position of authority.

Glad I could help.

Rapmaster2000: People who don't know a lot of doctors personally are impressed that Ron Paul is a doctor.

I know personally two doctors who worked in the same practice with Ron Paul who think the is the devil incarnate. Among the many MANY choice stories that I heard from them was Ron Paul's very firm stance on people who can not pay for medical care out of pocket. Specifically that they need to hurry up and die and stop distracting the hospitals from the real customers. After listening to them talk about their experiences I have come to conclude that Ron Paul is literally Andrew Ryan.

Ron Paul is a fraud.

He actually got an "Audit the Fed" bill to the House floor, but voted against it because of the riders that were attached.

However, as much as he biatches about earmarks, he routinely requested earmarks for his district since that's how things work in Washington.

If he actually gave a shiat about the Fed, he would have accepted how things work in Washington in that case as well.

However...the Fed bill wasn't as important as him getting re-elected.

Add to that the fact that he wants states to be able to ignore the First Amendment (flag burning) - but OMG THE SECOND IS SACROSANCT, and thinks government should not be involved in our private lives - unless you're gay or pregnant, and you have someone who is a complete fraud.

And, just for fun, this "Constitutional stalwart" thinks the Constitution is "replete with references to God."

The only reason anyone would think he was a great Libertarian statesman is if they know nothing about him.

It's been awhile since I've really delved into grammar, but is it still a double negative when you're dealing with two different clauses?

This, pretty much. It's pretty clear that RON PAUL is not a libertarian, he's an anti-federalist; infringement of civil liberties is fine if done by anything other than the federal government. This lack of principle has allowed libertarianism to be co-opted by people who, as you say, simply want a philosophical fig leaf to cover their intolerance.

I also find it highly amusing to hear "small-government libertarian" types demand the federal government get involved, especially when they demand bans or criminalization.

If libertarians actually held to the principles they espouse, they might get more people to listen.

Ron Paul was pretty good at identifying commons sense problems and issues that the government can or should address, but his solutions to those problems were often crazy and his desire to limit Federal intervention in State and individual issues seemed more geared towards a desire to stop the Federal government from allowing people to discriminate.

We can legalize marijuana and stop drone striking people without Ron Paul's crazy libertarianism.

I know that's the reason most college age "libertarians" start liking him, but the Randian core of his ethos is idiotic, and we don't need to become goldbugs in order to enact sane drug laws and better foreign policy.
