"I'm a keen horse rider and he resented the time I spent at the stables," she says. "He started saying I could have half an hour riding before I had to be home.

"I'd find myself rushing back from work or drinks with friends because I knew if I was late there'd be an argument.

You know, he's an asshole, and she needs to grow a pair, but that's not match.com's fault anymore than it would be the fault of the bar where they met, had they met that way.

I'm just glad I'm not that happily married for so many years so I don't have to deal with this kind of stuff.

There is a reason that people have to resort to online dating. Beware.
Also, if any relationship puts those tyoes of demands on you just leave, there are warning signs.

In March this year, Sebastiano Mauro, 43, who she had dated for just five months, was jailed for five years after slashing Nathalie's prized horse Jessie and plotting to inflict grievous bodily harm on her too.

I think she's pissed because they let his profile stay even though she had proof of him bein bat shiat crazy.

It would be like a woman goin to a bar where she met a crazy bastard and warning them about him (with proof) and then lettin him still come in and prowl for women.

They can do what they want, but lettin certifiable crazies isn't good for long term business

One of these days I'm going to read the "favorite thread" list to see all these threads I keep adding to it because I'm just not in the mood to read the link at the moment, but I know I want to read it eventually.

I'm not in the mood right now to read about a traumatized female.

That's a man, baby. No wonder she had to resort to online dating. The Adam's apple is too noticeable in person.

"I was sucked into an abusive relationship because of internet dating." It's not because of the internet, sweetheart, you can meet assholes anywhere. You could have struck up a conversation with this guy at a coffee shop and he could have been just as charming in person as he was when he contacted you through your profile. Whatever warning signs you missed at the start, you would have missed regardless of how you met.

"Over the next week, he wouldn't leave me alone - it was terrifying," she says.
"He left 'I love you' notes on my windscreen, tried to get in my apartment block by pretending to be a cleaner and constantly called and texted me."
But Nathalie refused to rekindle their romance.

Well, there's her problem. It's not called "Dump.com." They have a guarantee.

Jesus, this guy is so farking nutz., he makes hannibal look like a boy scout. LIsten sister, don't rely on the police to protect you. You got lucky they caught him. Next time, buy a shotgun, 12 gauge, preferably 00 buck loads. He comes in? Kill his ass. Keep pumping rounds into his prone figure until he stops twitching. Then call the police to come remove his crazy ass corpse.

I hate online dating sites and I've pretty much sworn them off since I had one really bad experience.

I had my picture on my profile and some girl 'winked' at me, so I sent her a quick response with some personal information (what I do for a living, where I live, my educational background, etc), some pictures of myself, and asked her to send back some pictures. She sends me back a 'Thanks, I'll pass' email.

Holy shiat, man. She winks at me and I put myself out there. This woman's only got something like 6 Myspace angle head shots on her profile so she's obviously a cow, but I man up and gave her another chance. Reminded her that she was the one who approached me. If anyone's going to be turning anyone down, it's me, and hey maybe she's actually a nice person, I'm not going to shut someone down without at least giving them a second chance.

And I'm not prejudice against fat chicks. I am a trainer and can see beauty in someone even if they aren't in the best shape. What matters is whether they are trying to better themselves or not. I even offered to give her some free training sessions if she was up for it. No strings attached.

Anyway, I never heard back from that biatch. Just goes to show what kind of losers you'll find on those sites.

Thats what I would think, if you cant look at the picture and see the reason they are online or read the profile and see the reason they are online, that probably does not mean they are the best catch online.

FTFA: "I was sucked into an abusive relationship because of internet dating."

No, you were sucked into an abusive relationship because you found an abuser attractive. It's not the online dating site's fault you picked a "winner". Man up and put your big girl panties back on. You are responsible for your choices and you actions. So is he. The only thing the dating site did was provided you a means to connect. Most places don't do any verification, let alone criminal history checks. They sure as hell don't do any psychological testing. I have a feeling this bimbo would blame her mother for introducing her to some guy who didn't work out...

2012-11-15 01:01:48 AM
She lets him spend the night at her place a few days after meeting him, and she blames the internet for her poor choices? She went back to him repeatedly when she knew he was possessive and abusive because she didn't want to be alone. Take some responsibility! Those choices were hers, not the website's.

And what is the dating site supposed to do, keep staff on hand to go about checking to see if any of their members have been convicted of crimes somewhere in the world so they can pull their profiles? They removed the profile when they were informed that he'd been convicted of a crime. Any action before a conviction would have been wrong and set up a precedent for any disgruntled member to harass the dating site with demands to have people removed for bogus charges.

Her story is tragic, but only in that it shows how far women still need to go to be strong enough to walk away from a bad relationship, to believe that being alone is better than being abused. How he treated her was wrong, but she enabled it to continue for months.

"Dating sites are great at telling you how they can help you find a lasting relationship or even marriage - but they don't highlight the dangers,"

ANYWHERE you meet someone, they don't highlight the dangers, because you're supposed to be intelligent enough to figure it out yourself.
Meet someone at a bar? Through friends? At church? The grocery store? Same dangers.

Yeah but I heard they still let convicted rapists through all these channels. They must be stopped. For dating!

Yep. He told you what you wanted to hear, you believed it, and when it got to this point: "He started saying I could have half an hour riding before I had to be home. you said "OK whatever you want" instead of showing him the door. Over and over again.

Now, I work with domestic violence prevention, and I do understand how women get suckered by these predators--but at some point you have to woman up and acknowledge to yourself that nobody makes these decisions but YOU. I will lay dollars to donuts this is not the first such relationship this woman has had, nor will it be the last. Hopefully, she will learn from her mistakes, sooner rather than later, and before she gets hurt worse than a slash to her horse. It has nothing to do with online dating, except that just adds an extra layer to what women believe will keep them safe.
