The Nexus 10 as well, 16 and 32 gig.

It's basically everything I want in a phone, at a really good price. The things that it's missing (mostly 4G) are not important to me.

And the vibrate motor on my phone died so I have an excuse to upgrade.

I'm holding out for the Nexus 6. I hear it comes with a four year lifespan, *and* you can get it in a basic pleasure model.

Well at the risk of upsetting the hive mind, you get what you pay for. And for many people being limited to only 8GB or 16GB is a bit of a downer, as is the lack of LTE.

I'm gonna pass on this overhyped/under produced phone until I actually have a real need to upgrade my handset. Maybe I'll catch the next one.

I put Cyanogenmod 9 (Ice Cream Sandwich? I don't know what that means, but I think it's what I have) on my Touchpad last night, and it's pretty fantastic. I think I believed that Apple products were the only option, but the 24 hours I've been using Android are starting to convince me otherwise.

They aren't the only option. It's just the most commercialized one so far.

Google really botched this launch. Selling out in 48 hours is acceptable. Selling out in 15 minutes with no preorders or official launch time? That is just stupid. Also Tmobile has plenty of stock but they're requiring a 2 year contract to buy one from them which ends up costing $650 more over 2 years.

Or it could be sold out because they only had a dozen of them in inventory and the "release" was just a way to gauge actual demand. Did anyone actually complete an order? I clicked "buy" the second I could and it timed out.

Stop being so damn stingy and dish out the $1.99 for Widget Locker.

Agreed on the 16gb part. It's baloney. If the manufacturers aren't going to offer a 32gig version, they need to stay with SD card slots. I don't wanna go to the cloud for everything.
The lack of LTE doesn't really bother me though. The last time they put LTE on a Nexus phone, Verizon totally farked with it and people didn't get Jellybean until months after the release while the people that bought the GSM version got it the day it was released. I'm totally cool with it being just HSPA+.

No one ever said that Android was good-looking, but for 4.2 they went out of their way to make it ugly.

Exactly. I already reverted back to 4.1.2.. 4.2 has all the unfinished and sent to market charm of Windows ME and all the incapability with software and "why the fark is it even doing that" of Vista at launch.

It's terribly buggy and the multiple user shiat with the stupid folder stack is stupid. All the custom recoveries are broken now too because of the strange folder structure Google is using..

The Nexus 4 is the fourth Nexus phone. The Nexus 7 is a seven inch Nexus tablet.

I am really, really trying not to remember how everyone flipped a boatfull of dicks that the iPhone 4S, last year, didn't have LTE, but for some reason it's cool now with the Nexus 4.

Not knocking it, it's a neat little piece of hardware, and the Nexus line doesn't really disappoint overall, but the double standard is astounding.

4.2 has caused us nothing but headaches at work. Totally switched up the way it handles some encrypted data - like, in our case, passwords - and crashes out like woah.

This is a technical term, of course.

I think it is aimed at different people. The iPhone is marketed as the best smartphone money can buy. Lacking 4G for a year while everyone else has it kind of defeats that. OTOH, this phone is meant to be inexpensive. Kind of like comparing a Raspberry Pi to a laptop. With a halved price tag, you expect it to be missing some things.

Bluetooth worked?

Seriously, we make a VoIP app and BT has been a pain from day 1. There are hundreds and hundreds of OS-level BT bugs and it makes my life a living hell. It's damn near unusable on the Nexus 7, except in certain circumstances.

Touche

I'm still trying to figure out wtf Google is doing.. I have been saying from day one that "4.2" is NOT 4.2.. They added a shiat ton of features and framework changes for something that was an increment of 0.8 on the version scale. Instead of fixing bugs and tightening up the code Google disguised a buggy feature filled new version of Android as a point release.. 4.2 should have been at minimum labeled 4.5 and broadcast on the developer network all the framework changes taking place so all the developers weren't caught with their pants down when their shiat was broken.

At most this should have been 5.0.. Either way it's laughable this is what Google considers a point release.

Besides the lack of LTE and limited storage, this phone is significantly more powerful than the GS3. The screen is nicer and the CPU is much faster.
I don't excuse the limited storage (16gigs, and we all know storage is cheap), but this phone is meant to be a world phone, plain and simple. The United States is one of the only countries in the world with an extensive LTE network, so it didn't make sense to have it. The previous iteration of the Nexus phone didn't have LTE until it was sold on Verizon and Sprint. When you put LTE on a phone, you're giving the carrier some control over when the updates occur, and last time Google did that with the Verizon Galaxy Nexus, Verizon completely shiat the bed. The Verizon CDMA Nexuseswere getting Jellybean months after their GSM counterparts that were bought directly from Google.

All true. All I meant is that when the price is half of comparable smart phones, people get less picky with features.

Soo, as someone who is in the market for a replacement Android phone...

Do I get the Nexus, or the S3? Or some other phone?

Difficulty:
- would like to be able to expand memory
- would like to be able to get stock Android (or at least upgrade to new OS when I want to)
- Would like to be able to delete all the crud Sprint has loaded on it

If you have sprint, no nexus 4 for you. It only supports GSM technology, so tmobile or ATT.

I have no interest in jumping through arbitrary marketing hoops. If I have to check Wikipedia to figure out what a device is -- let alone which of two is newer -- then the marketing department has failed.

Even Microsoft gave up on this sort of nonsense and went back to contiguous numbering. It's almost like people want to know what they're buying.

If google sold more than one phone you might actually have to do that. Since they only sell one Nexus phone at a time then you'd have to be pretty dumb to not know what one is the newest. Same with 7 inch and 10 inch tablets. You want the newest one? it is the one for sale.

I agree with you about Microsoft. I can't wait for the Xbox 361 and Windows RT2
