Pop quiz hot shot. It's the end of the world. The forces of darkness are closing in all around you. The chill winds of socialism, communism, fascism, and kenyanism are sweeping across the icy tundra of what had once been a land swathed in the green embrace of freedom. The cities have burned. The churches have burned. The streets are empty wastes. You are hungry, you are scared, you are hunted by the very government that should protect you. Alone, huddled in your last bunker with nothing but the rats and the few rounds of ammo you've scavenged, with the winter's winds howling at the door and the tattered remnants of your clothes hanging from your gaunt, starved body, which do you prefer: light, or heat?

Answer that honestly, and in the future I'll thank you to think before you speak.

If you are talking about the economy it's absolutely true. Changes in the economy take years to work themselves out. Bush's total corporate cronyism is just coming to fruition: a corporate class that whines at every imagined slight while they sit on mountains of cash that they will only use to hire non-Americans.

Ah, yeah, clearly ignoring how your actions and associations are perceived by others is a winning strategy for the GOP.

Make sure to keep forging ahead with the most distasteful spokespeople you can find and alienating moderates. It's working really well.

Good for them for standing up to that retard, Mann Coulter.

Vegan Meat Popsicle: I always get a kick out of this sort of comment. If she isn't saying things that are representative of the conservative viewpoint, why do conservatives reward her so richly for saying them?

A tiny fraction of the country watches Fox News, MSNBC, and other cable news pundit shows. A tiny faction. Something like two million people a night give or take watch Rachael Maddow and Sean Hannity, each.

There are ~300 million people in the country.

These pundits just get all the press...such as threads like this one about Ann Coulter every month. In the media, they become the defacto mouthpieces of their party. In reality, I think most Americans are far more moderate than any of these people.

2012-11-14 03:38:21 PM

d23: Vegan Meat Popsicle: She does not represent the Republican Party.

To the tune of millions of book sales...

I always get a kick out of this sort of comment. If she isn't saying things that are representative of the conservative viewpoint, why do conservatives reward her so richly for saying them?

I agree with this... but I always wonder if Coulter, Limbaugh, Savage, several others (not Boortz, who is a serious self-important asshole) studied the work of the great Andy Kaufman and are just people that are getting rich trolling very stupid people. I'd hazard a guess that at least one of them and maybe they all are. If it is to make money then it's brilliant.

Go watch the Andy Kaufman wrestling documentary. Coulter = Kaufman, the idiot hicks getting so angry at him are the conservatives that listen to her.

You nailed it. People always look at me like i'm crazy when I say Rush is a genius.
Also, Newt is an evil genius, Rick Santorum is just a retard that actually believes what he says.

You don't want to do that. Do you have any idea what sort of toxins that would release? Jesus, that's got global catastrophe written all over it. Better to keep it in one pile, where it's easier to store. One 55-gallon drum should be big enough.

Better still let the Govt take control of her.

light and heat were used metaphorically, i.e. truth/enlightenment or incendiary wharrgarbl? I prefer light.

2012-11-14 03:39:49 PM

Freudian_slipknot: Diogenes: While it appears they were pressured a bit, this was very well-said.

Is appealing to someone's better nature really "pressure"?

Looks to me like they realized just how bad a visit from that total Coulter of a human being would look to the rest of campus and that it wouldn't win any hearts or minds. From there, it's a pretty sound decision to avoid alienating the people they hope to bring to their cause.

I mean, you'd have to be a complete Coulter to not realize that they made a good decision here.

So being pressured into telling some they can't speak is a good decision now?

Sure she speaks in absolutes but I have never really heard her say anything hateful, if may be to the point or to garner attention for herself but that's just an attention whore.

If you have actual links that would be helpful, but then I rarely pay attention to these kinds of people they just say outrageous shiat to get press. Limbaugh is the worst and most idiotic of those kinds of people.

Coulter and Limbaugh both have the magic stick for trolling Liberals. They can say the most tarring, over-the-top ridiculous crap to bait the HuffPo readership and Facebook lights up like Christmas. Seriously, kids: you're getting trolled. Stop driving traffic to the stories about them, do your part to reduce their marketing buzz. In general, I follow the same MO with them as I do the Westboro Baptist Church: not even a page view.

Of course both of them are doing gangbusters at coddling scared, white, middle-aged men. If I hear another 50-something man describe her as "hot" or "sexy" I may actually refer them to my friend the psychiatrist.

well thats just not true. first off, nascar isn't popular anymore. the ratings have tanked. and secondly of all, coulter is just a blithering idiot. she and rove hit their crescendos in bush's second term, and they've been on the downhill slide since. their era is now over, and my party is moving on. she sometimes made good points, but always in very ineffective manner. the message should never be overshadowed by the volume with which you deliver it.

theres a new generation coming. i hope they're better.

Yes, I truly believe that it is a good idea that the President of Fordham University has forced the College Republicans to rescind Ann Coulter's First Amendment rights.

I especially liked the part where the College Republicans put Ann Coulter under house arrest and told her that she would be thrown into prison if she didn't stop writing books.

2012-11-14 03:47:49 PM
I told the University community that I hold out great contempt for anyone who would intentionally inflict pain on another human being because of their race, gender, sexual orientation, or creed.

'Disgust' was the word I used to sum up my feelings about those incidents. Hate speech, name-calling, and incivility are completely at odds with the Jesuit ideals that have always guided and animated Fordham."

McShane said preventing Coulter from speaking would "counter one wrong with another," and made clear he would not forbid the CRs from having Coulter at the Jesuit University

and then added "cocksuckers"
