if the Giants keep playing the way they are playing, it could be the Cowboys or the 'Skins, and I'd rather the 'Skins.

It is mathematically possible, but not going to happen. Even six wins at this point is hard to imagine.

No.

As a 'Skins fan who left the area 15 years ago, I miss the DC sports media so much for exactly this reason.

I used to always wonder why people who move to DC hate the Redskins so much, then I moved to Chicago and I understood; any team here that does anything remotely promising is suddenly a lock to win it all.

What's funny is that when I lived in Detroit it was the exact opposite. The Red Wings or the Tigers could play a magnificent game and give up a late garbage goal/run and suddenly the whole town thinks they're a team full of losers that can't close anything.

This was the main story on the front of the sports section of the Post, right next to a much smaller, "Oh yeah, Johnson won NL Manager of the Year" story.

The concern is their ridiculous schedule ahead of them. It looks like one easy game (Philly @ NYG) and the rest are well...pretty damn tough . 4-3 would be an achievement.

Again never bet for or against the giants.

LOL, This is the DC I remember. I always use to joke that if the Caps ever won the Stanley Cup, the headline the next morning will be "Questions Linger as Redskins stand one month from Training Camp" I don't think that's as true anymore.

The NFC East is so bad right now, it will be a shock result whatever team wins it.

Yep. This was the sports section of the Post on the day after the Nationals brought Washington its Boobies-season baseball victory in 79 years.

Why not? People seem to think the Cowboys could win it now for some reason, why not Washington?

Will they? Nah probably not, but I certainly wouldn't bet anything of value against it.

I'm sure submitter would have made the same monkey/ass analogy last year if someone asked "can the 7-7 Giants win the Super Bowl?"

And when the Redskins go 2-2 in the preseason, everyone is pretty sure they'll sweep the division and win 14 games and set NFL records on offense and defense AND sleep with Scarlett Johannson.

This is, and always has been the 'Skin's town. All other sports are just allowed to borrow it in the off-season. I our heads we know the Skin's aren;t a very good team, but in our hearts they are still that elite class of the NFL team that went to four superbowls in ten years and to the playoffs every year

Someone has to win that shiatty division, it might as well be a shiatty team.

So is the NFC still the better conference?

There are 7 regular season weeks plus playoffs to go - so who the hell cares?

specifically to NFL (although the argument exists a lot in MLB), the "MY conference is better than YOUR conference, RAWRRRRR!" argument is so stupid and pointless. there are always a couple of dog divisions in each (the NFC West for years, for the last several years, the AFC West) but.....the wya people argue about it is just lame.

As an Eagles fan, so am I. For one, I want to see what Foles has got. For another thing, the more the Eagles lose, the better their draft pick next year. And I expect them to lose.
Plus, I've yet to actually watch RGIII play, so that'll be nice.

that would be hilarious. i want any 7-9 team to win it all. just for the butthurt.

Hell, the 9-7 Cardinals were about 90 seconds away from winning it but for Ben "rape" Roethlisberger raping throwing a rape pass to Santonio "Rape Boy" Holmes. Rape.

If it was a legitimate comeback effort the Cardinals defense would've had a way to shut down the Steelers offense, therefore the Cardinals technically won that Super Bowl and Sarah Palin is automatically President.

More important was the slant that got run back for a TD the wrong way before halftime. HUGE swing.

Frankly, the NFC East is a total dumpster fire right now. The Giants are going through their annual swoon, and I hope they don't kick out of this one. The Eagles are imploding so much that Andy Reid is gone at the end of this season, plus they're having to start Foles at QB for at least one game. The Cowboys are their typical foot-shooting selves. Sure, the Redskins are as terrible as ever, have no secondary and no good healthy receivers, but they do have a solid rookie RB in Alfred Morris, and RGIII has given this Redskins fan something he hasn't had in a while, hope for the team.

I don't think they will win the division, but it wouldn't surprise me if they clambered out of the NFC East basement this season. Also, with every team in the division being wildly unpredictable on any given Sunday, and the Redskins next three games all being division match-ups, that claim might look less ridiculous a month from now. Especially as they can get a leg up on many of the division tie breakers with a lucky streak.

Of course, I'd rather have Orakpo, Carriker, Garcon, Meriweather and Davis healthy as something to pin my hopes on, but in today's NFL if you have a decent QB, you have a decent chance to win. The Redskins for the first time since 1991 or so actually have a decent QB, and (astoundingly) an offensive line that isn't utterly execrable.

/Probably not, these are still the LOLSkins

Well this time they've already played Dallas twice and might end up with a bad division record. Dallas has a great shot but I do expect them to screw it up. If they both end up 9-7 (a good possibility) Dallas would probably have the tie breaker but that just means Dallas will end up 8-8 because that's what they do.

2012-11-14 05:28:21 PM
muck4doo, you have that right. just because of Mara's salary cap shenanigans, i was actually pulling for the Cowboys over the Giants in the season opener this year. Then I had to take a shower because I felt so violated for having to cheer for Tony Romo and the Clownboys

this assumes that the 2nd worst defense ever (thanks to the Saints) can even dream of holding any team to less than 28 points. I have seen little evidence to support this case.

Other than their last six games, in which all six opponents were held to less than 28 points?
