Do they give Oscars to bloated, poorly edited messes that push the established supporting cast into the background for a bunch of new characters that add almost nothing to the film?

yeah, no.

Honestly, I thought it if this is the worst of the Trilogy, then it was a really good Trilogy.

Not as good as Dark Knight, but I really, really liked it.

Is there an Oscar category for "most bloviating self-absorbed grand-standing"? If so, it's a shoe-in.

I loved it too, and saying its not as good as the Dark Knight is like saying having a million dollars is not as good as having a billion. Its still really awesome. Maybe they can give it oscars to apologize for the fact that they snubbed Dark Knight?

I saw it three times in theatre. I have never, ever, paid to see a movie more than once before it was released to DVD/Blu Ray.

I wasn't as good as Dark Knight, no. But still an incredible movie in its own right? Absolutely.

Hold on. Wait for the oscar bait movies. Those will assuredly be in your top 10 like the finest film watchers. Those movies always hold up past a month like Slumdog Millionaire and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

I think this is just to make fun of those clowns who didn't put TDK in for a best film nomination since its one of the few movies to hold up from that year, which is why they pushed it to 10 nominees IMO.

Its Oscar worthiness is debatable, but I enjoyed it as well.

Good.

^ That, although I thought it was slightly better than Batman Begins. My only real complaint was that you didn't get the feeling 5 months had really passed in that prison. Still, it was exciting, inspiring, and the ending was perfect.

Oh, they were hating on it before it came out, just like they did with the last two films. And when the new reboots come out, they'll be crying that it can never be as good as TDKR, which is something else they did with the previous movies. Anything new and popular is "lame", until it's slightly older.

It was nominated for 8 awards and won two. I'd hardly call that a snub

I LOVED the film... (and not trolling, but i like The Dark Knight the third best of the Nolan trilogy).

I'm not saying TDKR didn't have flaws, but it was the one of the most satisfying theatrical experiences I've ever had.

The threads were as volatile as Prometheus' threads. People seemed to both like and dislike the movie so I didn't think it got the hipster brigade treatment, just expectations were ridiculously high.

I enjoyed it, but it is no TDK.

If you want to see TDK again but not quite as great, just go watch Skyfall. It's basically a poor man's TDK.

TDKR was simply a different film.

I was sorely disappointed by TDKR.
I saw it not once, not twice, but thrice...and still couldn't get myself to like it.

Money wasted.

At least I got some popcorn out of the deal....

Oh I meant in terms of magnitude, not similarity. The commonalities of Skyfall and TDK did bring me out of Skyfall a little, but I still really liked Skyfall as a Bond film. Top Notch.

Different people have different tastes and that's fine, but why the hell would you see it a third time if you didn't like it? Two wasn't enough? Not attacking, just surprised.

The thing is, they are aware of the Fark hipster label, so now they are cycling through the love/hate opinions faster than ever before. They hope to exist in a state like Schrodinger's cat. You can't pin down their opinion vs. popular opinion and whether they currently exist as cool or not.

It's days like this however where their hipster status formula is obvious. (TDKR + Oscar talk + mainstream praise) x (sense of self worth + neediness) x (number of unfinished screenplays on hard drive) = TDKR sucks!!!

So, it's not cool until it's "retro". Sounds about right.

I've found that the more I think about The Dark Knight Rises, the more disappointed I am. It's a shame, because I really wanted to like it.

The Dark Knight however is still the best Batman film ever (except for Mask of the Phantasm).

Unfortunately for Hanks, that movie was a colossal mess called Cloud Atlas, which improves TDKR's chances considerably.

kronicfeld: Meh. Enjoyed it I guess but I have no inclination to see it again.

Pretty much this. I was prepared to see it 5 times in theaters, like TDK -- after the first viewing, I didn't care.

It was too choppy, the 'reveal' was unnecessary, and the ejection-ending still makes no sense.

That being said, it's still in the top 10% of comic book movies.

I wish they would have split it into two movies. It was just too busy despite the three hour runtime. It's not like ALL the franchises aren't doing that. They should have ended it at the prison. They could have paced the second half much better.

You didn't like it so much you saw it three times in the theater? That's kind of odd.

I know no one will agree with me on here, and that's ok, but it was my favorite of the three. I'll have to watch it again. If you hated it, that's cool too, I'm not about to change anyone's mind. I really liked it.

You and me both. We must be hipsters that hate the movie only because it's cool to hate something whose popularity has faded.

Mmmm, not really Oscar-worthy. It's definitely worth seeing once. But seeing it again and again? Nah.

It was weird.

I wanted to know what happened to Brian Dennehy and Cuba Gooding Jr, and the movie ignored them for Russell Crowe and Johnny Cash.

They never bothered to tie it together at all.

I'm a fan. I thought TDK deserved BP consideration. With all the BS oscars they've given for previously overlooked performances, this would not be out of line.

Seeing it twice was my own idea.
Then, some friends wanted to see it again one night. Since I had nothing else to do and they were going with or without me, I went along.

I was hoping to find something there that would make me like the movie, but it just never happened.

TDKR was one of those films that once I saw it, I had no desire to see it again or own it on DVD. It made no impression on me apart from being a depressing film. Took itself waaay too seriously.

The Avengers was the polar opposite. A damn fun film to watch again and again, but it won't be winning any oscars apart from FX if nominated.
