Dr Dreidel: chitlenz: No, I don't think that Israel should "sit and take it" when terrorists fire rockets into their space BUT killing random people isn't a sane response (when there's a crime, find and punish the criminals, not just whoever is convenient).

How, exactly? Get the CSI guys on it? Make some calls to the local PDs and send a few uniforms in a squad car to the corner of Falafel Ln and Bakalakadaka St?

They do that (well, except the third). They follow the trajectory of the rocket back to its origins, then light up that spot. I don't think it's fair that families, homes and infrastructure get demolished as a result, but then, I also don't think it's fair that a group indiscriminately fires rockets at civilian populations FROM civilian population centers and then claims that retaliatory strikes on "weapons depots" aren't fair.

Armed conflict ain't fair.

As you probably are better informed on this issue than anyone else in this thread, does the U.S. supply weapons to Hamas either directly or by selling to a middle man and pretending we don't know where they end up?

Okay, I'm a civilian female who has fired a weapon once decades ago: it involved powder, a ball, and way too much noise - scared the hell out of me. Break it down for the for the weapons retarded; is the M-16 manufactured in America? (Sorry for my abject ignorance.)

Hamas gets weapons from a lot of places. Iran is a big one (not directly, of course - one is Shi'a, the other Sunni - they just have a lot of the same contacts in their cell phones). They're armed indirectly by Saudis, by Egyptians, by Syrians, by the Lebanese, by the US...I think even the Russians. I know that Hezbollah (which is the same faction as Iran, opposite Hamas in everything but Israeli-killing) is armed pretty much directly by Iran and funded through some legitimate and semi-legitimate charities. Hell, someone in the Shi'ite hierarchy may have decided 30 years ago that selling arms to Hamas is fine, so long as you don't enter one of their heathen mosques - killing infidels trumps how many times you pray, in the terrorist calculus (or maybe it was...terrorist Al Jibra!!! *ominous music*).

Again, none of these are direct arms sales. It's all "Hamas got them from a guy who got them from a guy who got them from a guy who stole them from a truck in Peshawar". That and homemade rockets. The looting of massive weapons stores in Libya (recent) and Iraq (not so recent) probably meant more weaponry for them as well. Some of it may just be old-fashioned straw or black-market sales, where someone (with no criminal history, if these aren't black-market sales) is able to purchase a large volume of AK-47s and ship them to Hamas.

Remember the floatilla that got raided...2 summers ago? That's because it's a major shipping lane for illicit arms - Gaza is on the water, and "humanitarian" aid ships are often devoted to removing humanity from an area, rather than supporting and healing it. Not to say all of the aid floatillas are full of C4 and mini-Hitlers, but it's a great way to hide stuff "in plain sight". (I'm pretty sure - but don't quote me, as this is from memory - Hamas has staged attacks using Red Crescent gear as cover. Maybe it was Hezbollah? Maybe I'm thinking of 80s action movies?)

// I'm flattered you think I'm more informed than most - I'd like to agree
// but for some reason, not so much on who arms who

I use red, starting with the lightest shade (5) and darkening the shade by one increment for each thread in which they do something particularly cringe-worthy. Once they get to red 1, further infractions get noted in their favorite field and there's a counter. Usually I throw them on ignore by the time they get to -3 unless they redeem themselves in some fashion.

By my count, Joe Blowme's now at -30 (starting from +5), 22 of those points being for what I call "anti-Islam derp." By all logic I should have plonked him long ago, but he's fascinating and can be surprisingly civil if you engage him. But yeah, he really, really, REALLY hates Islam and is pretty much a permanent fixture in any thread that has "Israel" or "Islam" in it.

There are about 8 million M16 rifles in the world. It's one of the most common and mostly widely-used rifles in existence. About 80 different countries use it. It was invented in the USA about 50 years ago and is still in production here (as well as Canada and China). It's also used by about 80 different countries, including Israel until about a year ago. It's not hard to get hands on one.

Not sure if that answers your question.

Trapper439: Joe Blowme: Retarded shiat from some holy book that is no better or worse than any other holy book

You do realise that there are parts of the "Holy Bible" and the "Torah" that are similarly xenophobic and bloodthirsty, right?

Fark religion in each and every one of its forms. The human race should have shed mindless superstition thousands of years ago, but you assholes keep bringing it up.

Parts, yes. But are any of those parts done by the individual you are supposed to model your life after.

Most religions have ways that can be twisted fro violence. In Islam, however, you are supposed to strive to be like a warlord who lived a very violent life.
