Galils are outdated now. Most IDF troops have M4s, with a healthy smattering of Tavor TAR-21s mixed in;

Sporadic missile fire from the Gaza Strip hit southern Israel on Monday for a fourth straight day, with Egypt trying to secure a truce and Israel warning it was poised to toughen its response.

Gaza is governed by the Islamist movement Hamas, which does not recognise Israel's right to exist.

Six Palestinians, including four civilians, have been killed by Israeli shells fired on Gaza since Saturday,

Oh yeah, and that "brutal vicious occupation" has lead to an HDI (UN measure for quality of life, including literacy, life expectancy, infant mortality, etc) higher than many of their arab neighbors. Yep, pretty much what he said.
I think the Givati and Golani Brigades have the Tavor, and the rest use M4s. I'd have to see tomorrow when I'm walking to work, if there are any soldiers around, who's carrying what. (Can tell by the unit tags).

In the meantime most reservist (like me) get modified M16s, ie the old long ones cut down. Basically around the second intifada (2000) the IDF realized that the shorter length was more useful in urban fighting which is most of what the IDF does these days, and any extra accuracy from the longer barrel wasn't worth it. Instead of crating them and buying new guns, they cut them down and replaced the stock with the shorter collapsable one. You can tell that it's one of the cut ones as the barrel is slightly shorter then the real short ones. They had to do that so that the rifling would work properly.

What I really don't understand about all this is that Israel keeps insisting it controls Gaza and the West Bank when clearly they don't and haven't for some time (being able to selectively kill them control, for reference see Syria). Why can't sane minds find a middle ground on this? Neither side is willing to budge an inch, and the IDF is picking a fight it just cannot win, just like we did in Iraq. Sure, if all the Palestinians line up to get bombed Israel has total advantage, but fighting an entrenched guerrilla population is a loser for both sides.

Israel is starting WW3 just because they can, which is about the dumbest reason to start a war... ever. You want a scary scenario? What if the IDF invades Gaza and it drags Egypt (note: this just started to happen, Egypt has declared for the Palestinians as of about 45 mins ago), Jordan, and SA into the mess. Add to that Hamas has every reason to ally with fringe European factions like the "Golden Dawn" farkers in Greece/Spain/Italy, and suddenly you have a 4 front offensive. On TOP of all that, no one knows where the hell Syria's Bio/Chem tech has gone, and with some of that crap one bad decision will kill *millions* of people.

It's basically a war on math:

Israel = 7.7M people

versus

West Bank + Gaza = 4M people
Egypt = 82M people

Can't Netanyahu add, or is he so full of himself that he thinks he's invincible? NEVER fight a hostile enemy population on their own turf, especially when they already see themselves as having nothing to lose. Oh, and let's not forget Iran, surely they will have something to say about all this as well...

It's not that simple.
Hundreds of rockets have been fired from Gaza over the last few days. What are we supposed to do, bend over and take it in the ass? Incidentially, that's what we usually do. Rockets and mortars are fired regularly from Gaza towards civilian areas of Southern Israel.
It's not a matter of mathematics, if that was the case Israel would have been wiped in in the War of Independence, or again in the Six Day War. What you are missing is that Israelis have everything to lose. The terrorist groups, ie Hamas, want us dead. There is no middle ground with that. You can't argue with crazy.

No, I spend as little time thinking about them as I can, I'm just making the point that self-perceived mutual oppression can make for strange bedfellows. A LOT of people hate Israel (consequently, not me, I just wish they would stop stirring the pot) and aggression can cause all kinds of unintended consequences.

The question comes down to why everyone hates each other (in this case, it seems to all be about the "declaration" of a Palestinian state, so the whole thing is about ideals). There's almost always a middle road, it's just that in this case everyone always wants to take extreme points of view on both sides. It's a gross generalization to say that all Arabs want all Israelis dead, as there have been and continue to be diplomats on both sides. Israel could at least try to negotiate, but they instead seem to always want to up the ante militarily every time something happens as a response. It's like American politics, but with guns. The funny thing about it is that in most cases like this the answer is obvious, but since neither side wants to lose face and admit it they just keep ratcheting up the pressure instead.

I guess if you are going to ignore any and all agression from Gaza it is pretty easy to see any response from Israel as murder, have fun with that.

The Palestinian Authority makes no attempt to educate its people towards peace and coexistence with Israel. On the contrary, from every possible platform it repeatedly rejects Israel's right to exist, presents the conflict as a religious battle for Islam, depicts the establishment of Israel as an act of imperialism, and perpetuates a picture of the Middle East, both verbally and visually, in which Israel does not exist at all. Israel's destruction is said to be both inevitable and a Palestinian obligation.

Again not true, by this logic we (America) "Controlled" Iraq during our ill-fated occupation, but in reality on the ground we had little pools of fortified control and never really owned anything. Again, violence begets violence, and yeah the IDF can impose their will on something like a border but in doing so they have fueled an insurgent population. No, I don't think that Israel should "sit and take it" when terrorists fire rockets into their space BUT killing random people isn't a sane response (when there's a crime, find and punish the criminals, not just whoever is convenient). I don't really have a dog in this hunt, except that I fear Israel is going to end up trying to drag us into another unfunded slog in the ME when/if they overextend themselves. Netanyahu seems to be gambling on this, and he may be surprised to find less than enthusiastic allies if it happens.

Fark if I know. They do it all the time. Apparently they think that by shooting rockets at Israel we'll pack up and leave.
Or do you mean why did they suddenly increase the volume?
Probably because the anniversary of the Palestinain Decleration of Independence is this week.
They usually do stuff like that to commemerate these kinds of things.

How, exactly? Get the CSI guys on it? Make some calls to the local PDs and send a few uniforms in a squad car to the corner of Falafel Ln and Bakalakadaka St?

They do that (well, except the third). They follow the trajectory of the rocket back to its origins, then light up that spot. I don't think it's fair that families, homes and infrastructure get demolished as a result, but then, I also don't think it's fair that a group indiscriminately fires rockets at civilian populations FROM civilian population centers and then claims that retaliatory strikes on "weapons depots" aren't fair.

Armed conflict ain't fair.

So Israel forced settlers to move back within their borders after they decided to go out on a limb and force the issue by "occupying" land? Again, if you work with people you can most of the time( admittedly not always, but most of the time) find a common ground.

I'm not defending Hamas here by any stretch (there's MORE than enough blame there as well), I just think that after 50 years of this violence isn't working and maybe we should try something else.

But it isn't a gross exaggeration to say Gaza elected in a govt that has that in its charter (well jewish israelis).

A charter is a piece of paper, this is the point of diplomacy.

What woudl you call pulling all their peopel out of Gaza? Some by force?

So Israel forced settlers to move back within their borders after they decided to go out on a limb and force the issue by "occupying" land? Again, if you work with people you can most of the time( admittedly not always, but most of the time) find a common ground.

I'm not defending Hamas here by any stretch (there's MORE than enough blame there as well), I just think that after 50 years of this violence isn't working and maybe we should try something else.

Hardline approaches never work, especially when both sides see themselves as having everything to lose. They need to sit down and find things they agree on and work out form there, not just keep saying "I'm right, you're wrong, the end" (this is BOTH sides by the way).

At this point it may not even matter anymore, for whatever reason the whole region is about to go up in flames (again).

Every time they sit down and talk peace Hamas has a chance to re-arm. These moments of peace usually are ended by a barrage of missiles out of Gaza.

Bleh... I was writing a repsonse to the rest of your post and then realized I don't have the energy for it. And that pretty much sums up the Israeli position. Most Israelis want a solution, want a Palestinan state (or at least are resigned to it), but nothing seems to go anywhere so we're like, Fark you, we don't have time for this bullshiat.

I feel for you man, I really do. War is terrifying for all involved, and I hope you stay safe. I personally don't have anything to lose in this (yet), but I'm going through the exercise of publicly debating this topic because I find it mystifying how two groups of people can be so alike and yet be at each others throats all the time, and I am bothering to converse this here because I want to understand both opinions (and fark seems to have a mix of ... god knows what, heh). I think if both sides admit the other side is made of up human beings, and both sides agree that people need a place to call home, and both sides already acknowledge a Palestinian state is inevitable, then why can't the few people in charge get to the bottom of the problem?

Look at New York, Jews and Arabs coexist fine. Sure there's hate crimes from time to time, but stupid people are a constant in any society. I do understand that state sponsored terrorist acts are different (it would be obtuse to think that the rockets attacks raining on Israel are happening without the blessing of Hamas), but because of this the puzzle has an obvious solution once the people at the top stop throwing tantrums. Because both sides are so tightly led the people or both sides will follow any course change, it's a kind of side effect of tight social control (which both societies have in this case).

Because the people elected to be in charge in Gaza have wiping the jews in Israel out as part of their charter.

I think so, and in that sense, they're right. It's funny, it's not the betterment of society what keeps us together, it's what we want to kill what keeps us together.

2012-11-14 03:05:56 PM

chitlenz: It's not that simple.

You really need to get out of your moms basement once in a while.

Yea, i dont know where the hatred comes from either...
Qur'an 9:29-Fight against Christians and Jews "until they pay the tribute readily, being brought low."

Qur'an 4:91- If the unbelievers do not offer you peace, kill them wherever you find them. Against such you are given clear warrant.

. Qur'an 9:7-9-Don't make treaties with non-Muslims. They are all evildoers and should not be trusted.

Qur'an 9:12-14-Fight the disbelievers! Allah is on your side; he will give you victory.

. Qur'an 9:5 Kill the nonbelievers wherever you find them.

Qur'an 2:191-2-Kill disbelievers wherever you find them. If they attack you, then kill them. Such is the reward of disbelievers.

Qur'an (5:51) - "O you who believe! do not take the Jews and the Christians for friends; they are friends of each other; and whoever amongst you takes them for a friend, then surely he is one of them; surely Allah does not guide the unjust people."

Qur'an (2:65-66) Christians and Jews must believe what Allah has revealed to Muhammad or Allah will disfigure their faces or turn them into apes, as he did the Sabbath-breakers.

Qur'an (4:48, 4:116)-Those who ascribe a partner to Allah (like Christians do with Jesus and the Holy Spirit) will not be forgiven. They have "invented a tremendous sin."

Qur'an (4:51)-Jews and Christians believe in idols and false deities, yet they claim to be more rightly guided than Muslims.

Qur'an (5:51) Don't take Jews or Christians for friends. If you do, then Allah will consider you to be one of them.

Qur'an (5:80) - "You will see many of them befriending those who disbelieve; certainly evil is that which their souls have sent before for them, that Allah became displeased with them and in chastisement shall they abide." Those Muslims who befriend unbelievers will abide in hell.

Qur'an (3:85) - "And whoever desires a religion other than Islam, it shall not be accepted from him, and in the hereafter he shall be one of the losers."

. Qur'an 9:6-Those who submit and convert to Islam will be treated well. (Those who don't submit will be killed. See previous verse.)

Qur'an 5:53 Jews and Christians are losers.

Qur'an 5:59 Jews and Christians are evil-livers.

Qur'an 5:63 Evil is the handiwork of the rabbis and priests.

Qur'an 5:72 Christians will be burned in the Fire.

Qur'an 5:73Christians are wrong about the Trinity. For that they will have a painful doom.

Qur'an 9:30Christians and Jews are perverse. Allah himself fights against them.

As you probably are better informed on this issue than anyone else in this thread, does the U.S. supply weapons to Hamas either directly or by selling to a middle man and pretending we don't know where they end up?

Hamas gets weapons from a lot of places. Iran is a big one (not directly, of course - one is Shi'a, the other Sunni - they just have a lot of the same contacts in their cell phones). They're armed indirectly by Saudis, by Egyptians, by Syrians, by the Lebanese, by the US...I think even the Russians. I know that Hezbollah (which is the same faction as Iran, opposite Hamas in everything but Israeli-killing) is armed pretty much directly by Iran and funded through some legitimate and semi-legitimate charities. Hell, someone in the Shi'ite hierarchy may have decided 30 years ago that selling arms to Hamas is fine, so long as you don't enter one of their heathen mosques - killing infidels trumps how many times you pray, in the terrorist calculus (or maybe it was...terrorist Al Jibra!!! *ominous music*).

Again, none of these are direct arms sales. It's all "Hamas got them from a guy who got them from a guy who got them from a guy who stole them from a truck in Peshawar". That and homemade rockets. The looting of massive weapons stores in Libya (recent) and Iraq (not so recent) probably meant more weaponry for them as well. Some of it may just be old-fashioned straw or black-market sales, where someone (with no criminal history, if these aren't black-market sales) is able to purchase a large volume of AK-47s and ship them to Hamas.

Remember the floatilla that got raided...2 summers ago? That's because it's a major shipping lane for illicit arms - Gaza is on the water, and "humanitarian" aid ships are often devoted to removing humanity from an area, rather than supporting and healing it. Not to say all of the aid floatillas are full of C4 and mini-Hitlers, but it's a great way to hide stuff "in plain sight". (I'm pretty sure - but don't quote me, as this is from memory - Hamas has staged attacks using Red Crescent gear as cover. Maybe it was Hezbollah? Maybe I'm thinking of 80s action movies?)

// I'm flattered you think I'm more informed than most - I'd like to agree
// but for some reason, not so much on who arms who

There are about 8 million M16 rifles in the world. It's one of the most common and mostly widely-used rifles in existence. About 80 different countries use it. It was invented in the USA about 50 years ago and is still in production here (as well as Canada and China). It's also used by about 80 different countries, including Israel until about a year ago. It's not hard to get hands on one.

Not sure if that answers your question.

But yeah, he really, really, REALLY hates Islam and is pretty much a permanent fixture in any thread that has "Israel" or "Islam" in it.

/Has he called anyone a "dhimmi" in this thread yet?

Not yet that I have seen.... I haven't ploncked anyone yet as I myself can be a real asshole at times lol But I do also have a couple people show up in red...

johnphantom: Mazzic518: What color do people favorite retards in?

I use orange.

I favor purple for particularly unsavory slope-headed morons, or various shades of yellow for more pedestrian idiots.

YMMV

ciberido: ciberido: 4chan. 4chan never changes.

CygnusDarius: 4chan has changed. It's no longer about lulz, lurking moar, or raids. It's an endless series of proxy threads fought by moralfags and script kiddies. 4chan- and its consumption of internets- has become a well-oiled machine. 4chan has changed. ID-tagged Anons carry ID-tagged scripts, use ID-tagged computers. Caffeine inside their bodies decrease and regulate their abilities. Thread control. Information control. Emoticon control. Desu control. Everything is monitored and kept under control. 4chan has changed. The age of Facebook has become the age of control... All in the name of averting catastrophe from the partyvan. And he who controls the threads... controls lulz. 4chan has changed. When the thread is under total control... 4chan becomes routine.

I am now both appalled and intrigued.

Heheh, I don't know. 4chan is Mos Eisley to me.

Undoubtedly the same as it always was, "lulz."

Nanomachines is an anagram for AnonMachines. Coincidence? I think not.

Mazzic518: ciberido: Lunaville: Okay, I'm a civilian female who has fired a weapon once decades ago: it involved powder, a ball, and way too much noise - scared the hell out of me. Break it down for the for the weapons retarded; is the M-16 manufactured in America? (Sorry for my abject ignorance.)

China does make them now?

Uh, well, that's what the Wikipedia article said. To be honest, I knew less about the M16 before I read the article than after.

Are kosher and halal more or less the same thing in meat department?
Sometimes I buy halal meat because of where I shop, and at least some halal-observers seem to think kosher is acceptable.

Trapper439: Joe Blowme: Retarded shiat from some holy book that is no better or worse than any other holy book

You do realise that there are parts of the "Holy Bible" and the "Torah" that are similarly xenophobic and bloodthirsty, right?

Fark religion in each and every one of its forms. The human race should have shed mindless superstition thousands of years ago, but you assholes keep bringing it up.

Parts, yes. But are any of those parts done by the individual you are supposed to model your life after.

Most religions have ways that can be twisted fro violence. In Islam, however, you are supposed to strive to be like a warlord who lived a very violent life.
