Sexual battery? A, AA, AAA.

I hope somebody is concerned for the child whose innocence was so cruelly violated. Oh good...

"I am deeply troubled by the allegations of sexual misconduct by a teacher. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the alleged victim."

Amos Quito: This happened in Florida, so I have to ask: Is the dog okay?

That's a valid question. If the dog witnessed the alleged acts of sexual depravity, he could be deeply traumatized and require years of therapy.

I have to say, kind of this. At first I was "Well it's just that we are different!", but then I started really looking into these cases. For a lot of times, some of these women used 'love bombing' and pretty getting inside the kid's heads, enjoying that level of control. Think of it like with the Davideans in Coprus Christi, only it's a cult of one. Their is a different kind of abuse, more subtle and a little bit more harmful, their is of the psychological abuse. It's not that sex will harm them, it's the 'I need you' vibe these women instill in the kids, playing with their hormones.

I'm still kind of torn, and yes, I'll get a lot of flack for this, but do a little research on female abuse, and it's going be creep you out, trust me.

I want to know more about the student's mom. How on earth did she believe that a 23-year-old could have been the parent of a high school aged kid? Why would she have let her high school aged kid spend the night with a child much younger than he was? Especially with never having met the other kid.

You can blame the 23-year-old for being devious or sneaky, but she wouldn't have been able to get far if the kid's mom weren't the dullest crayon in the box herself.

Yes, it's a hard 23, but I'd still put her as being the parent of a child still in elementary school, at the oldest.

Yeah, plus i didn't see the kid's age mentioned at all, but iirc, 14 is generally the minimum age for high school. She could pass for a 14 yr old's mum, no problem.

The wobbly bit for me as a parent would have been why did the mom come by to pick the kid up without her kid coming too?

Eh hit post on accident .. Is she "that" lacking in confidence/got torched by males around her own age she opened up to or would that sort of fit classical 'female power grab' in such a situation? Obviously do not have a PhD on the subject matter I am kind of curious tho because like I said I can count numerous times I have heard same lines and never seemed to be some underhanded/grand control plot.

$150,003 bond?

Did the judge look at her bank account and saw she would be $3 short? If I was a judge, my bails would be set at $69 and $420. Maybe this is hilarious to the judge for some reason.

FTFA The student's mother told police, according to the report, that they admitted the sexual relationship to her a couple of months ago

So the mother knew about it for about two months before reporting it to the cops? If that is the case, she was totally thinking of just letting all this go by the wayside.

My pulled-from-ass assumption is that being around teenage boys all day that lust after you a sex goddess (as they do with anything at least vaguely female) could lead to a warped perspective.

Then some day you need validation and - bam! Some boy is happy to provide it.

This would certainly make me ask questions! Although I may have bought a line like "Josh and his dad are getting pizza for our dinner tonight." Or perhaps something like, she was coming from a direction other than home, and Josh is waiting at home.

Don't you generally only need 10% for a bail bond or if you pay cash? That means the judge figured she'd be 30 cents short.

The victim told police they and Reed planned to stay the night together but knew the student's mother would not allow it. The student, the report says, then created a fake friend named "Josh" for the student to pretend to stay the night with.

I assume they = he? I read and re-read that several times and couldn't figure out WTF was going on.

I just love how a person who willingly participated and even lied to his mother in order to make this possible is considered the "victim" because of a statute and nothing more. TFA fails to give his age, but I'm betting he was probably 17 years old.

At that age, you're supposed to file for Selective Service, and he'd be on the hook for adult jail time if he committed a major felony (murder, etc.), not to mention being responsible for picking a college and managing his educational requirements to get into said college while fending off (or talking to) military recruiters who want his ass on their bus the day he turns 18. He can drive a car, work in any number of horrible jobs, and manage his own bank account and finances.

But he's too young to know whether or not he is ready to have sex.

The teacher abused her authority-- That's the only real crime here. The sex was not unwanted by the "victim", though. He wanted it. He arranged for it to happen. He kept the secrets because he wanted it.

I keep saying we should base statutory rape on the "victim" I.Q. and whether or not they're past puberty. If the teenager's intelligence is anywhere north of "below average" then they should be considered capable of making decisions regarding their own body and mind (as long as said activity is already legal for an adult).

Came here to say the same thing. It's hard to believe that it took 42 comments for someone to point it out. I wasn't reading very carefully, so for a second I thought she was involved with multiple students. I think it's just the best or only way that a C average journalism flunkie can think of to hide the gender of the victim. Like "their" being allowed to spend the night with a made up student named "Josh" hadn't completely given it away already.

Dang why didn't any of mine think of that so I could have spent the night and more over why didn't I think of that? Looking back though my parents did some hardcore checking before they would let me spend the night at a friend's house which meant driving there and meeting the family. Afternoons were never a problem though just had to be back by 7pm when I was 13 through 14 and then 9pm until I turned 16 at which point it was 10pm on school nights midnight on the weekends.
