So, the guy is an attention whore. Seems this guy needs a public shaming, like, during prime time and on every channel. Yes, even HGTV and QVC. USE *ALL* THE CHANNELS!!!

People like this trivialize those who suffer *real* abuse.

Although I don't think this article mentions it (I only scanned the article), I have heard that the lawyers from both parties met shortly before this announcement and may have agreed upon a six-figure settlement. If that is true, I find it hard to believe this accuser was ever being truthful to begin with. If I felt I had been wronged enough to seek justice through the courts, it would take an incredible amount of money for me to change course in that decision.

This sounds like it may have been a case of extortion via litigation.

Watch "Being Elmo", and try telling me with a straight face that Kevin Clash is anything but a huge nerd that obviously loves what he does. The guy is a borderline aspergers puppet savant. That somebody would take advantage of that is shameful.

Aspergers? He always seemed very outgoing to me in most of his interviews. I guess you mean his obsession with his trade?

No one tell, david_gaithersburg. It seemed highly important to him that Clash be a "gay pedo".

Except that the accused wouldn't have paid, since paying hush money is a tacit admission of guilt.

Or a really smart movie for someone whose future earning would be destroyed by a long sex abuse trial even if they are found not guilty.

Good. However:

"I am a gay man," Clash said in a statement issued Monday. "I have never been ashamed of this or tried to hide it, but felt it was a personal and private matter.

Oh? "Never," you say?

In an interview previously posted on the website of NYC Dads, an initiative of New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, he spoke about how he worked to spend time with his daughter, who lives with his ex-wife outside Baltimore.

*snerk*

Sorry. I know the over 40s had a rougher time of it than the younger folks, and many stayed closeted longer. But it still makes my ears perk up. Especially when they say things like that.

moral of the story is if you are Elmo, don't have a gay relationship with a teenager... Actually, probably good words of wisdom for us all.

Eighteen and nineteen year old people are teenagers and the age of consent in some states is sixteen. I can remember when it was fourteen in Georgia. Making a fool of yourself with someone who is legal, but too young for you is a different thing from going Sandusky.

Are you still screaming that having sex with children isn't rape?

Much like every complaint I expect to hear from my girlfriend's parents when they arrive today for their semi-annual whine-fest, this is a repeat.

I think people who charge people with rape and then recant their stories should be legitimately raped.

Then sued for slander, making false statements, fraud, harassment, and anything else we can make stick.

Ruin the motherfarkers life.

We were finally getting to the point in our country that we take rape allegations seriously when it's a man who's molested and this motherfarking republican micropenis goes and ruins it for everyone.

No, this is a followup. There is even a tag that indicates a followup story. Followups provide new information not covered in the previous article posted to Fark, new information like "the accuser has recanted the story".

Sex with children is rape. Sex between consenting adults, as was evidently the case here, is not rape.

I'm saying:

- you jumped to a conclusion
- you conflated homosexuality and pedophilia
- you condemned anyone who didn't drag out the pitchforks and torches immediately

And you still seem fixated on the idea that this was pedophilia as opposed to statutory rape. Now we know it's neither.

"Not childish, but childlike."

The guy was a weird peter-pan manchild, and if he even had a sexuality it's not something I'm qualified to even name, but all of the facts available today pretty much unanimously agree the guy never molested any kids. He slept in the same bed sure, he was physically a grown man and there's nothing at all right about that, but if there was anything at all sexual about it then I'm Richard Simmons' girlfriend.

Yeah and it is amazing how many people do not understand that people really aren't born gay straight or bi. Sexuality is fluid and peoples' sexual preferences can shift around through out their lives. I know a "gay" guy, who at age 45 decided he wanted to start having straight sex and reserve gay sex as a once-in-a-while activity. His biggest problem was that he had never been with a woman and was clueless. Luckily for him, he had a woman friend who was willing to teach him.

TMZ started the settlement rumor: "It's unclear why the accuser suddenly changed his story ... but sources close to the situation tell TMZ ... the accuser's attorney had been meeting with Clash's attorney as recent as an hour ago, discussing a financial settlement and 6-figures were on the table."

It was my understanding that he recanted that he was a minor when the sex happened. So no, he didn't recant the 'sex allegations.'

So we're talking 18 and mid-40s? Legal, if barely.

The Greeks had a word for that, too. They called it "the army".

For a six figure settlement, I'd backdoor Richard Simmons while fingering Roseanne

"[The accuser] wants it to be known that his sexual relationship with Mr. Clash was an adult consensual relationship. [The accuser] will have no further comment."

If the relationship continued past his 18th birthday, it was an adult relationship "at one time." Might have started out otherwise. Lawyers are good with words. "We never had sex when I was a minor" is a recantation.

What part was blatantly false? This was always about what age the guy was when the relationship started, and if we don't know what age that was, then you can't say the accusation is "blatantly false".

The cost of defense would have been higher than the cost of a settlement. And that's not including the damage a long drawn out trial would have done to Kevin Clash, Sesame Street, and even PBS in general. Even if the accuser didn't have any case, his lawyer would have made one salacious accusation after another. You know that the media, especially the right-wing media, would have reported each of those groundless accusations breathlessly. Hell, there's a good chance it could have ended up with congressional hearings.
Kevin Clash would have been uterly destroyed, and those who despise PBS would have used the story to try to defund them.

/PBS: A NEST OF PEDOPHILES?!?

You're being way too general. The human psyche is much too complex for generalizations. Homosexuality has been becoming more and more accepted and mainstream my whole life. Gays are generally acknowledging their sexuality and coming out very early in life these days because the social stigma is not what it once was. For most people, there is no need to repress their sexual feelings. More, younger people are experimenting much more than in the past and the pigeonholes of sexual identity that we have embraced for so long are becoming meaningless.
