Not so much "need" as "enjoy."

The problem with the horse tranq is that you wake up with your pants off and it hurts to sit for a few days.

Pfft. This dentist is merely incompetent.

Dentist in MY hometown managed to kill a patient with a novocaine injection a few years back. Yes, he was THAT bad with a needle.

Holy shiat. I did some work for this guy. I installed several monitors that hooked to tooth cameras so patients could see what was going on in their mouths as well as some home entertainment stuff for this dude.

Well he paid for all his stuff, at least.

Hmmm. Got the reverse.

My dentist has done a root canal and a tooth extraction on me and in both cases I
1) Never needed painkillers afterward
2) Was eating about 30 mins later

Dentistry has come a long way

Don't worry, nobody RTFA anymore. It's about dentists, huh? Let me share my uninformed opinion or tangential anecdote with everyone.

Is it safe?

Documents also say Broadaway billed a patient's dental insurance for work he never did.

Ins fraud, mail or wire fraud, depending on how he billed, that's for each instance. The dental board and malpractice cases may be the least of this guy's problems.

/wonder if he's up to date with his taxes

CujoQuarrel: Dentistry has come a long way

Agreed. Despite all my brushing and flossing my crap genes have caused my mouth to decay at a rather early age so I'm pretty much on a first name basis with my dentist and periodontist. When I was a kid I would have to be physically restrained for basic cleanings... then again that dentist had a reputation for being something of a butcher among pediatric dentistry but we didn't know that 20 years ago. I had a root canal a few years ago and didn't need any pain management following the procedure. I've had wisdom teeth out and had gum surgery and recovered pretty quickly and other than having to eat yogurt for a few days had no issues or discomfort. I may have to get braces sometime in the next couple of years but apparently orthedontre has made leaps and bounds since I had braces the first time around*.

* note: having the gum surgery and a nasty chronic illness undid the thousands of dollars worth of orthedontics work I had done in high school

I had a tooth extraction last week and still have stitches in. I wasn't put under and wish I would have ponied up the extra $200 to do so. Oh, the sound of a tooth being snapped out of your jaw. So, I'm cured of the dentist for a while.

So, it ISN'T safe

My current dental plan didn't cover anesthesia for my gum surgery. I know, right? So I was prescribed Valium. Being the straight lace kid I am I never had it before. Holy crap, I was on 2.5 tablets for that surgery. I was flying, man. Would do again.

I got the Novocaine shots. I expected the one shot at the tooth site, but got a freebie in the soft palate. Lucky me. :/ I think my toes were still curled the whole time. Valium might have been dreamy though.

It's because of dentists like this that I need the heavy duty drugs just to walk in the door.

FTFA:
However, the board is allowing him to stay in business under a stayed indefinite suspension, as long as he meets certain guidelines.

There have been issues for over a decade with this guy, he isn't paying his employees and has millions pending in lawsuits...
Sure, he's good to keep operating his business.

I always LOVED going to the dentist as a kid. Had an AWESOME guy doing the toothy thing (never needed anything major, though, never had ANY cavities).

See, and the funny thing about the Valium is not that it would numb pain or anything. You just don't care. You'd hear that tooth snapping out and you're just laying there wide eyed and "whoa..." like you're in your own Matrix reality. Apparently on the way home I did a lot of drunk texting, too.

I had the conscious sedation (not this current dentist, sadly). That was wonderful. I don't remember a farking thing except the ride home where I insisted on a cup of tea. Apparently I insisted five more times that day on a cup of tea. I assume I got them... :)

My dentist is slow, but steady. I've spent four hours in the chair while he fixed five broken teeth, but he saved me from a root canal. Thanks, Dr. Farney!

The hate I have for Dentistry is impossible for me to describe fully. If I could, I would strangle them all in those farking chairs they put you in.

Especially the south of the border dentist, god I want to do some therapy all over them. And I TOO CAN FORGET THE farkING NOVACAIN YOU farkERS!

/not trolling, just living a nightmare of poverty driven dentistry disfigurements that has highlighted my entire life.

Virginia has a glorious history of dental malpractice. From the Honduran guy doing backyard dentistry, to the Chesterfield dentist who randomly extracted all of a woman's teeth. AT ONE TIME FOR NO REASON.

He had a sign, I swear to God, on the roof of his office that read "Call 379-PULL".

I have an agreement with my dentist....don't start nuthin', won't be nuthin'.

have never seen either one - I must live in alternate universe or near Navy base.

Every time I read the name Chesapeake I mistake it for "cheapskate" which in this case makes just as much sense.

Funny, every dentist I ever worked for was a cheapskate, so that word just rolled past my brain, sort of like a double entry.

Stitches? I had three teeth removed several years ago (not bad for not having been to a dentist for 50 years). No stitches. Didn't need even aspirin after.

I've had 2 root canals done, one by a physician from a practice and the other by the students at the Philadelphia College of Dentistry. Guess which one did the better job? Hint: it wasn't the dentist from the practice.

When I finally meet up in hell with that sadistic incompetent bastard I was forced to go to as a kid, he is going to get such a farking beating I'll likely be offered a job by Beelzebub himself.
