I hate it as much as the next hater, more for the disappointment than the money spent, but this is getting ridiculous.

The missus and I watched it again last night.

I'm now putting it in the same category as Wanted and Shoot 'Em Up - something that should have been an enjoyable B-Movie, but the studio gave it a blockbuster budget, hired A-list stars, and took the story way too seriously.

Think along the lines of scientists who have been on shuttle flights or served on the space station, and their behavior and decisions are utterly inexplicable.

Yeah, that was just bad writing. They should have been briefed on Earth before departure. They could also have included a funeral scene for Weyland at the same time, adding extra shock value to his later appearance.

The breaks are too jarring in this one. I was trying to be in it for the ride, but holy crap they test your brain's involvement early, often, and intensively.

This is where some people find problems in the movie, it went against her established character. Pilots are supposed to be to think fast for their lively hood and she was no different. They showed her as a cold, calculating ice queen. Her panicking when there was a simple solution breaks established character. If they foreshadowed this with indecisiveness I would have been fine with it.

watched Prometheus this past weekend and thought it was great, one of the best films of the year. looking forward to a second viewing this weekend.

Its so very different and they advertised it so poorly. I watched it and had a hoot. Plus someone turned me onto the fact that everyone did their jobs/the order wrong which adds a whole new aspect when rewatching. (she isn't the virgin, he isn't the athlete, and so forth.)

I just don't like the bleak sudden ending but it is in line with the theme of the movie so its all good.

The point in Aliens was that all these badass space marines who spent the first 20 minutes of the movie bragging about how badass they were turned into incompetent cowards when the finally had to face the aliens. That was an intentional plot point. Running from something coming at you and not simply moving to the side was just sort of goofy.

Well, to be fair, Lt. Gorman did take their heavy firepower away when they went into the atmospheric processing station to find the survivors. They were just using pistols and shotguns. So they were overpowered. However, when they were trying to repel the alien attack later on, they stood their ground for a while.

Serious question.....does the military work like that in real life? Put some guy in charge who has little, if any, experience in the field? Grizzled old Sargent Apone knows what to do but is outranked by rookie gorman.

Yes but they were hand picked for a trillion dollar mission. Why would the people planning the mission even think about hiring them. I wouldn't have trusted those bozos to tie my shoelaces.

And why wouldn't you tell them what they were getting into so you could TRAIN THEM TO WORK TOGETHER.

/I liked Prometheus, despite the sometimes dumb characters. The atmosphere, music, etc was fantastic, and the final scene was great.

It would have been much more sensible were there a core of military-esque operators that knew what was going on, and their role was to train up to protect the scientists. Then the ignorance of the scientists would have been excusable; they'd just be particularly talkative tools that the grunts would haul around.

Yeah, she's shown to be cold and calculating but doesn't display much technical prowess. At the end of the movie, she's ordering the pilot to take off, and when he refuses, she has no choice but to leave in the escape pod. A cut-throat but not much of a pilot.

Because any real professional with hands on experience in high risk areas isn;t going to jump at the chance to take a mission where they tell you nothing, and once you start asking around peopel are going to start asking questions you don't want asked.

They're naturally instinctive normally, but saying you're right she still didn't train for several instances that happened where she was able to make the correct decision within seconds such as Noomi's lover being infected and approaching the vessel. She immediately calculated the risk and sought precisely the appropriate equipment. A big ol' flamethrower and the resolve to off him.

It seems to me that this revered original script basically explained everything and left little for us to question. I personally was much happier with what we got in Prometheus. It was not a perfect film, but no other film this year had my fiancee and I discussing it for so long afterwards.

No, she really was. She was the only one catching wise to David, and made very intelligent decisions up to that point including the escape pod feature of her room. The only preconceived notion I had was that I wasn't going to be watching idiots in space the movie with the addition that the only people proven to be competent suffering from stupid deaths too. If you just want to kill her off for no reason show the ship just landing on her and her overwhelmed expression at the last second.

Wrong. She got out of the way of the rolling, but the ship stopped rolling and then tipped over. That's what she survived thanks to the rocks.
