While I'm also not sure Lurhman's Gatsby is going to be any good, I am 90% sure this why production moved back the release date until next summer.

it's one of the most emotional songs in Les Miserables. I'm interested in how Hugh Jackman will interpret it. He's got a decent singing voice, but he's no Colm Wilkinson or Alfie Boe.

I've always been partial to Javert, so I'm more curious about Russell Crowe.

Me too. There's so little of him singing in the trailer, so it's hard to judge at this point.

I'm aware of Russell Crowe and his band, but the style of singing done in Les Miserables is completely different. It's one of the reasons Gerard Butler was horrible to listen to in "Phantom of the Opera". He made no effort to take some lessons in order to sing in a more operatic style.

Hell, even Madonna knew she had to sing differently when she did "Evita" and took lessons.

Les Mis always was one of my faves, and "Do You Hear the People Sing" whether live, on cd, or on tv, always gives me goosebumps and makes me tear up for some reason. Cannot wait for this, I want it now. Going to be very dusty in that theater.

I saw him in Boy From Oz (like half of Australia when it toured), and he was simply brilliant. It's a totally different vibe, obviously, but I have faith in Hugh Jackman.

I think Anne Hathaway is underrated.
She also has connection problems on her cell phone.

And she has very scary lawyers.

Gerard Butler wasn't good in Phantom, but that wasn't the only reason that movie stunk to high heaven.

Best. Abridged. Edition. Ever.

Without question I'll go see it but I'd prefer a non-musical version with more Victor Hugo and less Andrew Lloyd Webber.

/I don't appreciate serious drama tainted by the artsy foo foo crowd and I rather doubt a musical is what Hugo had in mind when he wrote the book

I was more worried about Redmaybe, since Red and Black requires some pipes. He sounds like there' s achance he pulls it off. Cosette doesn't really sing any songs I care about that much.

Also I forgot how emotional the final song of Les Mis is. holy fark I did not need to start my day like this.

I really wish I had more to add.

I do know that I am doing my best not to watch/listen to the 10th anniversary cast to give the movie a fair shake. Workin so far as this is probably the first movie I will ever actually go out on Christmas day to see.

/10th anniversary cast is best cast
//at least till Christmas

Yes. It seems she always gets these types of roles.

While this does look awesome....it's kind of strange to see people running around singing in hyper-realistic sets with casts of thousands (digital or otherwise). It always seemed like the better filmed musicals played with the notion of that absurdity by either maintaining some semblance of theatrics (Chicago, West Side Story, Moulin Rouge(yes, I know it's a stage-to-film transfer)) or changing things a lot to make it more film-y (Cabaret). Maybe Evita comes the closest to be "singing in realistic settings"? It's been a while since I've watched that movie.

//gonna miss the big turntable back alley-to-barricade transformation

2012-11-14 08:23:58 AM
Seen this four times on stage. Taking the extended family to see the movie, then off to a Thai restaurant 'Twin Fish' afterwards. Looking forward to the day
