Nah, let's just do a 1:1 swap. For each homosexual discovered in Uganda, have him(or her) swap with an evangelical here in the USA who sponsored the rhetoric for laws having the death penalty for homosexuality. Let's start with the largest donors first.

The trouble, as I see it, with such shocking developments as this one from Uganda, is that whenever Western Christians of limited wisdom, compassion and experience embark on any crusade rooted in cruelty, restriction or ignorance, there are NO LEADING VOICES in the rest of the Christian community who can be counted on to shout out in opposition.

If those mainstream voices do exist and I am ignorant of them, please, someone tell me.

Bullshiat.

Agreed. The only reason that most evangelical christians in the US don't openly/vocally call for the wholesale genocide of homosexuals (and some prominent ones actually do) is that they know that being perceived as genocidal lunatics will get their entire operation shut down by reasonable people.

Make no mistake- if the christian right could slaughter gays, muslims, jews, darkies, and liberals without repercussion, they would do it with a raging, blood-soaked boner.

Launch Code: American gays, the entire 3% of our population that is gay, should go over there and kiss outside the border. That worked wonders on the minimum wage kids at the chicken place.

Your herpa-derp is somewhat more apropos than you know: The assholes that "The chicken place" were donating to were partially responsible for this bill being written (the aforementioned Exodus International).

Yes, at this point in the thread, we all know that the headline's wrong. That doesn't magically change what did make it into the final version of the law, which is still farking obscene and still worthy of our complete disgust. Dumbass.

I'm not telling you jack shiat, I'm just acknowledging what you've made obvious time and time again in thread after thread.

As for me, fark the middle east and the misogynistic, racist, homophobic strongarm psychopaths that continue to hold so much sway throughout it. Or if that's not clear enough for you: fark religious people.

I don't care what color they are or where they live, I think everybody who believes that magic influences the world are destructive maniacs to be detested and fought.

That clarify things for you, buddy?

The Irresponsible Captain: Odd combination... Anglicans are generally split on the homosexual issue, but I don't know enough abut practices there.

That split tends to be:

Western Anglicans - Gays are ok
Non-Western (including African) Anglicans - Kill all the gays!

The church as a whole is split, but that doesn't mean the Anglican church within Africa is split. They're not. They're pretty much all full hard-on for the gay bashing.

cf. Diogene's post. The Family (and those elected officials mentioned) are a political front for aggressive Jesusing in Africa.

His followup book, C Street goes into much deeper detail about The Family/Fellowship's involvement in Uganda. Sharlett even scored some interviews with Bahati and Museveni.
