Fox News viewers aren't smart--that's why I have such a loathing for Fox. It's manipulating morons, and they know it. They convince people of vast liberal conspiracies that don't exist. They bring on "experts" to parrot right wing talking points and promote bullcrap like our president being a Kenyan Socialist, and how the movie 2016: Obama's America is probably the most important movie of this generation.

It's sick what they tell people for ratings.

The difference, and I think it's a very important one, between Fox and MSNBC in that regard is that MSNBC does a fairly decent job at making a distinction between their opinion and news programming. Fox doesn't make that distinction.

MSNBC and Fox News DON'T care about news. They care about money.

There is no grand media conspiracy to destroy OWS and the Tea Party. They don't give a shiat about them in the grand scheme of things. All they want to do is showcase the morans of the group.

Thanks for the input, captain false equivalency.

THIS. I used to compare it to hucksters preying on Christians to send them money. Say "Jesus" a few times and have that number at the bottom of the screen and you'll be rich, as long as you're a very convincing con man with no scruples. But while those people do alot of damage to society they are not actually undermining the very foundations of our democracy like Fox News is.

A democracy is dependent on an informed populace, and that is reliant on an open media. That's why it's the very first thing mentioned in the Bill of Rights. I don't have a problem with Fox being Fox. I just have a problem that they are passing off their propaganda as unbiased news. News is not there to perpetuate opinions, it's to relay facts and ideally separate them from bias. Biased "news" is not news at all.

this guy is full of shiat, fox news was was the propaganda arm for the republican party even back when they were paying cable and satellite providers to carry their network. It's always been about pushing a narrative first and ratings second.

Dogpants: THIS. If Murdoch could make one more dime from doing it, Fox would be a left-wing propaganda channel faster than you could say Rachel Maddow.

The main issue is the ease of writing and platforms of ideologies. Let's just take the DNC for example: They had removed God from being uttered in the venue. So, they hold a vote with hardly anyone in the arena to formally propose it be brought back. Half said yes, and in my opinion, more than half said no. I said that exactly the way it needed to be said, because it's probably accurate... they were liberals after all.

And, that's been my complaint of the Democratic Party for a long time: Too many differing viewpoints to a common cause. Republicans will get in line pretty quick with a solution, as it's usually fast, blunt and takes out Democrats in the process, but Democrats will hem and haw, beat around the bushes, get differing viewpoints and come out with a milquetoast response to the whole affair.

Mind you, these are generalizations. But, let's just say it's easier to feed a dog than it is a cat. A dog is going to snatch up anything that comes close to it's mouth where a cat is going to stop, sniff, hit it with it's paw, walk way, leap back at it, then sit on it for a while, make sure it's still there, then walk up to you and ask for something else to eat. Fox News feeds the dogs. It's a much easier and precise market to feed: Stick to the basics of God, Country and Guns, and maybe venture out to get opinions on other things.

I'll listen to Sirius XM news channels: CNN, Fox, NBC, BBC, and the commercials are VERY interesting.

Fox News Commercials: Buy Gold, Buy Boner Pills. Every commercial break, you'll get a variation of both of those, then generally some ambiguous claim about the Nation going to Hell, so go to a website (that always has a number in it...) USAGoesToHell66.com or USAIsInTheShiatter34.com or KissYourInvestmentsGoodbye42.com. It's always the doom and gloom websites that some unknown genius has prognosticated through years of social research and how they predicted some small thing that made big news. Without this information, you and your loved ones will be at risk when it all goes down. They never say what 'it' is, or what's about to 'go down', but it's highly important!!!

Other news channels: Investment Opportunities, Time Shares, Life-Alert, Landline sales (Vonage, AT&T, etc), Computer Virus Cleaners that you can install FOR FREE, and I swear to God I heard a Chia pet commercial not too long ago, but was in a driving haze, so it may have been another commercial with a similar jingle, and let us not forget REPEATING PHONE NUMBER OVER AND OVER AGAIN, I said REPEATING PHONE NUMBER OVER AND OVER AGAIN, one more time REPEATING PHONE NUMBER OVER AND OVER AGAIN, REPEATING PHONE NUMBER OVER AND OVER AGAIN, REPEATING PHONE NUMBER OVER AND OVER AGAIN, REPEATING PHONE NUMBER OVER AND OVER AGAIN so remember: REPEATING PHONE NUMBER OVER AND OVER AGAIN.

unyon: More importantly, they don't pursue a story with dubious underpinnings, report it, and then recycle it as a talking point into the pundit shows as a means to give it legs.

Dubious underpinnings nothing. They take serious news stories and use their "hard news" time to push their ridiculous agenda with them. Benghazi, anyone? Even their supposed news time slots have been running with every half-brained conspiracy theory they can find in their desperate attempts to force it to gain traction.

Their favorite trick with the allegedly "hard news" time slots is to play the "just asking questions!" game where they force allegations into the form of a question and imply there's some inherent truth behind them. At least MSNBC limits their drum beating to their punditry and hammers on actual things that people they don't like have said or done, even if they blow things out of proportion from time to time for effect.

You have to be pretty goddamn stupid at this point to not realize that FNC is anything more than 24/7 republican propaganda or to think that what MSNBC does with their opinion shows is even remotely similar. FNC just isn't even hiding the fact that they're pure propaganda anymore.

Fox News insisted it would be a Romney landslide. MSNBC *occasionally* admitted that Obama seemed to be slightly ahead in some battleground states, but the election was too close to call. If MSNBC is as bad as Fox News, why didn't they insist that it would be an Obama landslide?

Yes MSNBC is liberal, but it's absolutely incomparable to Fox News' division between ideology and reality.

I've been saying this for a long time, but the Fundies refuse to believe me: Adverts are the driving force behind ANY communication company, and the price of the adverts is directly proportional to the amount of people watching the channel.

Fox news is a business, and their goal is to make money. They do this with Ratings. Everything else, be it news or lies, comes secondary to ratings. If spewing lies, half truths and glorifying the inane makes ratings, then by God, full steam ahead, good sir! There's money to be made.

Fox News is more about entertainment than it is about information.
