Someone run a whois on this site? I'm wondering why someone would pay money to keep that domain active.

2012-11-13 03:28:53 PM
A little bit of shenanigans here.

"Still online" isn't quite right. "Put back online" is more accurate.

The actual Dole/Kemp 1996 website was hosted at dole96.com.

This version is being hosted by a group for archival purposes, not by any remnant of the Dole campaign.

Having said that, I love the idea that some parts of the mid-90s internet might still be online.

You mean you've never had a hard, throbbing Kemp shoved up your trembling, tight Dole?

Dammit, the donate link doesn't work! I wanted to see what would happen if I tried giving him a dollar.

Heh. During that campaign, Dole said, "The Internet is a great way to get on the 'net."

I still like using that line.

You can also get coverage of that election in 1996 format via CNN.

nekom: I don't know, 2000 McCain would have done a damn sight better than Bush. Not a big fan of 2008 McCain though.

Hell, 2000 Bush wasn't that bad. Remember "a humble foreign policy'?

2012-11-13 03:41:45 PM

TheBigJerk: It's never one thing, and it's hard to say what a President McCain would have been like, but 9/11 changed everything, if only because we let it.

It is, and all we have is at best speculation on what that alternative timeline would have been like. I'm positive a President McCain would have gone to war in Afghanistan after 9/11, in fact I'm equally positive that a President Gore would have. I don't believe either of those would have had us in Iraq though.

Dole Kemp '96

Wow, he put some serious work into the development. I have a funny feeling that Dole may have made this himself.

2012-11-13 03:55:37 PM
So the Dole/Kemp '96 website is still up and running

Not anymore, it isn't. Link farked.

2012-11-13 03:57:35 PM

BunkoSquad: "When users first visit the site, they are given the option of setting up a custom Dole Web page. Each custom page contains a personal tool bar that welcomes the user by name, alerts them to an electronic "In Box" containing any new press releases or other campaign materials posted since their last visit, directs them to briefing papers on issues in which they expressed interest, and offers a home-state icon for local information about the Clinton record and the Dole agenda in that state."

That sounds slicker than anything they have in place currently.

A Better America
With Bob Dole as President, the United States will once again be the world's technology leader. Americans will have the freedom to use the Internet without governmental intrusion. He believes the American people know best how to manage their own lives and their own computers.

From the website:

"As President, he will:

Seek ways to make health care more accessible and affordable for all Americans.
Ensure that individuals who change jobs do not lose their coverage or face pre-existing condition limitations.
Give self-employed individuals the same tax deductions that large corporations have to buy health insurance.
Make Medical Savings Accounts a real option available to all Americans.
Support efforts to make community and home based care more readily available."

/ sounds like a RINO to me...

Sounds familiar. I was a few years after you, but the internet wasn't a hell of a lot prettier (especially my contribution). I wasn't very sad to hear my site went away with Geocities, with no backup to be found. None of it deserved to be kept.

That's right. Blame farkers because your retarded boss has the Dole/Kemp '96 campaign website filtered as "porn." Even a mere thought of blaming the subby for this reeks of tea-party levels of stupid.

I'm calling out you nimrods. How, in any reality you claim to live in, is it possible for the submitter to know that your stupid company would consider this campaign website as porn?

You an an idiot for blaming them. Stupid. Go shoot yourself or recant your ignorant statement.

There's a lot of small businesses that created a site during the "must have a website now" craze of the 90s...and have just left them more or less the same.

Here's some miniature donkeys.
