Chicago, the place where you, Mr. President cut your political teeth, has some of the strictest gun control laws in the nation. It also has one of the highest murder rates, violent crime rates, and highest incidents of gun violence.

Across the US, generally speaking, the places that have the strictest gun control laws have the highest violent crime rates. During your administration, Mr. President, the number of semiautomatic rifles on the streets of the US has skyrocketed, as have the number of semiautomatic pistols that come equipped with clips that hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition. If what you are saying is true, the US should now resemble Beirut during the high of the civil war there in the 1980s. In reality, the national violent crime rate has declined.

At best, there is no correlation between gun laws and the violent crime rate, if anything it is a negative correlation.

You, Mr. President, have work out a plan to see that trillions in debt is repaid. You have to work out a budget and get it through Congress that is balanced or at least heading in that direction just once during your time in office. We have enemies in foreign lands who have stated that they will kill us if given the chance. We have enemies both in foreign lands and domestically that poison our children with drugs and thus far we have shown no ability to stop them. The money spent on making sure Billy Bob can't get his 7.62 semiautomatic rifle with a 30 round clip would be much better spent on mental health diagnosis and treatment and programs that steer youth away from gangs and drugs in our inner cities. basemetal: A friend of mine called me from a gun show this weekend. Said ammo prices had damn near doubled over last year's prices. Idiot's drive that market increase, give it two years and prices will go down again.

Is there a special line at the gun store for people who aren't raving lunatics but just want to buy a gun at the regular price?

Maybe if you can stare at a picture of the President for 60 seconds without turning red you can get the "reasonable person" price.
