scottydoesntknow: I've never been a fan of vapes because of the set-up and delivery method. I like to feel my hits, and sucking in an air bag (or tube) just doesn't do much for me. I know it works, but I feel like I'm just sucking in air. I like the throat punch a good water pipe can deliver.

I hook up my vape to my bong. Just sayin.

Edibles are a biatch - takes forever to make, and generally not a good use of good herb.

I would love to be able to walk in and buy a dozen brownies.

Get some chocolate intended for casting from the costume shop on Milwaukee or some similar place, along with some molds. Clean some kilbud and stir it up on warm for awhile in a frying pan with some butter that has a few drops of peanut oil in it. The peanut oil suppresses burning somehow, though one does want it to brown a little, I'm told the active agent is polar and wants to be slightly oxidized for oral administration. Drain butter, put some more in for a second pull, strain out veg matter. This chocolate has a remarkable ability to be alloyed with butter and remain hard, depending on the weather, you can do 25%, easy. Melt chocolate in a double boiler, stir in butter, and cast it in the molds. You'll be the hero of the fest, especially to those who want to sleep at night.

Smackledorfer: JackieRabbit: david_gaithersburg: Please sign the petition to Obama to reschedule MJ (like he gives a shiat about us). Link

Sigh.... We really need to start teaching American government in schools again. This petition is pointless. The President of the United States has no authority to add or remove a substance from one of the schedules of the CSA. This action is at the discretion of the US Food and Drug Administration, which is an independent agency. This is to say that while the president may have an opinion, he is enjoined from attempting to influence the FDA's decisions and he cannot force them to do anything. He can appoint the FDA administrator and he can fire him/her, but little else. Further, the FDA can declassify marijuana, but it would take an act of Congress to decriminalize it.

But as an outgoing president, and likely someone retiring from politics altogether, he is in a great position to use the bully pulpit on this one. He will personally have no political downside to support it. The more liberal dems can get behind him and be vocal. The less authoritarian conservatives can hop on board as well. The more authoritarian conservatives will be forced to admit they are putting marijuana out there as more important than our budget concerns and probably look bad as a result.

Really, anything that gets more people talking about it is a step in the right direction, simply because prohibition is an issue that just can't win on the facts to any reasonable people.

But we must consider the politics of the president's actions. Were he to openly support the decriminalization of marijuana, he hands the right a powerful piece of ammo and instantly places the next Democratic presidential candidate a bad problem to contend with. More, the Republicans will jump on this with even more fervor than they brought to bear on health care reform. It can be nothing more than a major distraction in his second term. His best policy is to do what he has been doing: ignore the issue and quietly tell the DEA to back off. I'm betting on this course of action.

How is that different from lobbying legislators and the parties in general being accountable for any high-profile statements?

He waffled on his plan of having the DEA back off in his first term, iirc (and I didn't bother to look too deeply into the few larger ops in california that they hit). As for it being a major distraction? Yea, sure I'll give ya that one. I was only taking issue with saying a petition to the president is worthless because he doesn't have direct power to enact change. If your real issue is that you don't think eliminating prohibition is a big deal, or a perhaps a possible to win issue, then that has less to do with petitioning Obama and more to do with you simply not wanting anyone, legislature or otherwise, to discuss the subject.

I put that in my recipe book under "Thanksgiving with the in-laws".

Years and years ago I had a basement apartment in NY. The only outside light came through the front door of my 200SF apartment. It was a nice day, so I propped the door open and sat on my sofa. When the sun hit just right, I had a nice bright ray that came down directly on me. I discovered that if I took a hit, held it, then blew it out into the sun beam I could things in the smoke that were otherwise hidden to me. Since this was such a revelation I decided to do it again, and again. In fact, probably about 15 times inside of 30 minutes. I actually got so stoned I acheived total consciousness. I had a flashback of Bill Murray from Caddy Shack and realized what that line actually meant. I didn't do anything else the rest of the day except watch old vidoes of Bob Ross.

StoPPeRmobile: BronyMedic: Jon iz teh kewl: BronyMedic: Should be legalized recreationally, or decriminalized/descheduled, nationally.

they have to test the markets so they can prove to the masses it doesn't cause face eatings. cause more people will be using it if it's legal (not really people are squares)

Decriminalizing/Descheduling MJ is going to be a lot easier than federal "legalization" of recreational use sales. The main hurdle you're going to have to clear is the FDA. It's still got to be approved as safe to market as a "dietary supplement or herb", or as an OTC substance since it was scheduled previously as a highly restricted prescription. And if you want to market it to treat any disease or condition, you're going to have to demonstrate safety and efficacy before the FDA will allow you to do that.

Just like alcohol, caffeine, and cigarettes.

Oh wait.

Which were grandfathered in. Tobacco would never be granted FDA approval in a modern age to be commercially marketed.

Vaporize, don't combust.

encrypted-tbn2.gstatic.com

The only problem with edibles is that some folks use a LOT of cannabis when they make them, and if you don't know the "cannabis by volume" ratio, it's easy to consume more than you want, which can be....uh.....uncomfortable.

Even if you DO consume more than you want, to the point that you are NOT comfortable, you can ride it out and will be fine in about an hour or so, and it WON'T kill you! Try that with alcohol and see what happens.

Consuming edibles, especially an edible you are not familiar with, is like riding in a barrel down the Niagara River. The point of no return is the moment you swallow.

Are you kidding. The FDA has completely abdicated their responsibility AFA supplements and the like are concerned. All you have to do is have some fine print saying "these statements have not been evaluated by the FDA blah blah" and you can sell just about anything

Which had nothing to do with the FDA, in reality, and everything to do with the Alternative Medicine industry having friends in high places.

Let QuackWatch explain to you what reclassifying "dietary supplements" as food allowed them to do.

Ever wonder why when the FDA wants to increase regulation of the Dietary Supplement and Nutrition industry they're always met by cries of "Health freedom" to keep them from doing so?

I don't care which is best, but I'm taking a road trip when Seattle's foodie hipsters start infusing marijuana into every gorram thing you can eat or drink. MMmmm, just the thought makes my mouth water.

Interesting the number of pro-vaporizer folks in this thread, since in the lead-up to legalization a few Farkers kept swearing to me that almost nobody uses a vapoizer or edibles and almost everybody smokes exclusively, thus making cannabis some kind of "health hazard."

I use a Vapor Brothers whip-style vaporizer in espresso finish. It looks chic and is one of the only vaporizers to use all non-toxic materials in its construction, including a ceramic heating element..

Several people mentioned vaporizers that use ground-up plant matter, a technology that has been around for a while. The next generation may be similar to current e-cigs that use a chamber that the user can refill with a glycolized liquid nicotine solution. A similar solution could, in theory, deliver other plant extracts using existing commercially available devices. The substance used to refill the delivery device would come in a little plastic bottle of liquid, and because the vapor is odorless the user would be difficult to distinguish from nicotine ecig users.

Interesting, I didn't know that. But I'm assuming that if it were rescheduled marijauna would fall under the same dietary supplement guidelines as the penis pills and cancer 'cures'
