In 2009, Smith, R-Texas, attacked ABC, CBS and NBC for their coverage of global warming, which he said was "largely slanted in favor of global warming alarmists."

"The networks have shown a steady pattern of bias on climate change," Smith wrote in a statement at the time. "During a six-month period, four out of five network news reports failed to acknowledge any dissenting opinions about global warming, according to a Business and Media Institute study."

He can perceive emergent bias patterns over time, but not climate patterns.

There IS some worry about global freezing in response to current climate change patterns. IF the ice caps are melted, they dump a huge amount of fresh water into the oceans. Thermohaline circulation is important not just to current patterns, but also for heat transfers across the globe which feed into weather systems. Likewise, fresh water freezes at a higher temperature than salt. One result of dumping large amounts of fresh water in polar regions is a systematic failure of the currents and a trapping of large amounts of that fresh water at the poles, at a much higher rate than current, thus causing a return to the glaciation patterns that we haven't seen in a long while.

Yes, global warming could cause Fimbul Winter. But this guy? I don't think is buying Ragnarok...

Couldn't we just give them a chair with the word "Science" on it? It appears the contenders don't have the IQ to know the difference.

Then they could go around proudly pointing it out to people and we could quietly get on with actual science stuff.

Republicans don't need or care about Science.

they have God on their side.

When clearly, they should be opting for:

E) It isn't being caused by anything, because it isn't happening.

Climate Change is Real: the politics behind it are flawed. Do we want people who refute science to continue making decisions regarding any legislation addressing it?

The amount of warming needed to shut down the thermohaline circulation is also likely enough warming to cancel out most of the cooling associated with such a collapse. What you'd end up with is a planet that's warmer than today everywhere except the North Atlantic, which would be around the same or, in some places over the ocean, somewhat cooler.

Also, technically, probably half of the weakening of the thermohaline circulation in response to global warming is not due to freshwater input, but due to surface water warming. Both freshening and warming decrease the density of surface water and weaken the density-driven sinking that drives the overturning circulation.

98% of all climate scientists agree that Global Warming is both happening and man-made, but I demand that we give equal time to the theory that says that not only is the Earth not warming, but that it is cooling instead, and poor people are causing this by leaving their refrigerator doors open. THINK ABOUT IT. REFRIGERATORS DIDN'T EXIST 2000 YEARS AGO SO THERE COULD BE NO REFRIGERATOR DOORS BEING LEFT OPEN!!!!! STUDY IT OUT PEOPLE!!!!!! STUDY. IT. OUT. !

True, the X axis could be your top score in Pole Position, but an educated guess would be the year the data was taken from. X is often time, and easy to guess. Y could be anything as the dependent variable.

Read my last post, chump. The X-axis is often the same in most charts, not global warming. So your comparison is a false equivalency.

If the species survives, future historians are going to look at these idiots the way we look at alchemists or medieval doctors who thought the key to curing lung cancer was smoking out the evil frog or dwarf living in your lungs.
