Some of those looked like photographs. This guy is brilliant. Agree that the salad one (and possibly the boiled egg) were below par, but for the most part this was amazing.

/Art is awesome.
//Not "modern" art crap though.

I really liked the roast beef one. I also dug the edges on the fried egg. But yeah the rest weren't anything special.

On your computer, scaled down to fit your screen, they look like photographs. Full-size, in a gallery, they look like oil paintings. Though more sharply focused, they are similar in technique to Caravaggio, Vermeer, and six centuries of still life painters from Jan Van Eyck to Gerhard Richter. If you've ever seen a "photo-realist" painting by Robert Bechtle, Chuck Close or Richard Estes next to the photo from which it was adapted, you can't help noticing the things the artist added to make the painting more alive and interesting than the photograph.

Sparnaay chose his subjects, removed them from their natural environment (or at least, removed their environment from the background), composed them carefully (the ketchup bottle's label facing 90 degrees away from the observer, the angle of a tomato slice precisely mirroring the the angle of the top half of the hamburger bun), and painted them from a variety of angles, from the low angle of the french fries in takeout container to the bird's eye view of the fried egg, Not everything is entirely realistic; nobody would use an entire tomato to garnish a single hamburger, as he seems to have done, and the salt in the soft-boiled egg picture appears to be defying the law of gravity in order to complete a diagonal with the cracked eggshell and spoon.(the bits of eggshell in the foreground also work to unite the main elements of the picture, and also conform to the "rule of threes," preventing the composition from splitting down the middle).

I wouldn't say it's great art (the backgrounds are uninspired, certain elements, like the utensil sticking in the food at a 60% angle, are overused), but it is art, or at least highly skilled design.

Yeah, technique is worth respecting, but we invented cameras for a reason.

Anyone who fries an egg until it is dark or brown on the edges has 1)used too high heat and 2) turned my stomach.
The paintings were beyond anything I can do. I wouldn't buy one but they were worth seeing.

fark THAT.... the only thing that looks halfway decent is the salad.. and the color of that egg yolk is nasty.. and the tomatos look overripe which means mushy and gross...

AND.... if you cooked me that fried farking egg you would get a pan to the farking head... PAN TOO HOT... if you can hear it sizzle.. its too hot..

A: Put the egg in the pan..
B: Bring the heat up..
C: take pan on and off the heat to maintain a good temp, and not letting it get too hot..
D: Either go over easy/medium or baste to cook the whites on the top side....

Who the fark wants rubbery crunchy eggs... fark this guy
