(Washington Post)   The Post tracked all homicides in D.C. between 2000 and 2011 to learn what happened to each case. It found that fewer than a third of the homicides have led to a conviction for murder or manslaughter   (apps.washingtonpost.com) divider line 164

About 1/3rd resulted in conviction?
I'm not surprised.
Disappointed but not surprised.

What?

2012-11-12 08:41:36 PM
Why?

2012-11-12 08:44:11 PM
Hate tomsay it, but it doesn't surprise me. The workload of most prosecutorss just doesn't allow for prosecuting everyone thats arrested. So i'm sure a fair amount of those, where the person was caught, they pled out.

2012-11-12 08:49:08 PM
Does that include plea deals?

Where?

It also boils down to being able to make a case. I would bet that the police know who committed 75%+ of those murders, but there's just not enough proof to take to the prosecutors..

Meh, I wouldn't say substantial.

I just find it humorous that they go march in Sanford when one kid is killed by a "white" guy yet 94% of the deaths in D.C. are black and not a peep from them. Just odd how they choose their outrage.

Except that's not really what happened.

The outrage didn't stem from Martin's death as much as it stemmed from what appeared to be an unwillingness to investigate given the amount of conflicting information.

While you may argue that the police met their minimum duty as required by Florida law - certainly you can understand how that minimum effort could come across as inadequate. Especially given American history in which police have often neglected to properly investigate cases involving a young black male.

That's the thing with you - you really dislike nuance. You prefer to generalize to the extent that events lose specific, distinctive details that are essential to understanding the opposing argument.

Yep.

I don't know what the local one is. Probably about the national average.

Incidences of murder witnesses refusing to cooperate with the police are enormous. Either fear of retaliation, or some absurd feeling of racial allegiance is usually the reason. As a result, it's become almost impossible to solve many murders and difficult to prosecute those cases that are solved. The "stop snitching" movement has succeeded in keeping many violent criminals on the street.

Mt. Pleasant is quiet, but a little out of the way, I'd stay away from Adams Morgan if I could, just because I hate the Red Line and drunken college students.
