Is this one of those rape-by-deception deals, where the partner thought she was getting it from a modified wooden toilet roller but was actually being penised?

Protip for the lesbians: If your date looks like Joachim Noah or a member of Menudo, there's a chance it has a penis.

Determine if their karyotype has an XX or XY. What's the big deal?

Yeah, with the complexities of real-world biology it doesn't make sense to insist on a sharp "male/female" distinction. Apart from the chromosome permutations there are things like androgen insensitivity and chimerism (some cells in your body having different genetics, or even different gender, from other ones). Even your mom has some Y chromosomes in her. Just give up and awards the medals to whoever does best at a particular sport.

/if you still insist that "male" and "female" are absolute concepts, I invite you to google "Buck Angel" from a non-work location

Sure it does. In just about every sport out there, men outperform women due to differences in biology. If you remove the gender distinction, you'd end up with no women medalists.

MyEnamine: Determine if their karyotype has an XX or XY. What's the big deal?

that actually doesn't entire work. You can have someone that's XY but is outwardly and as far as physiological capabilities go entirely female.

ShawnDoc: Sure it does. In just about every sport out there,

saying there's no sharp distinction doesn't mean doing away with gender separation in sports where it's appropriate just admitting that as far as biology goes things aren't as neat and tidy as many people like to think they are

My FFL team is the Ray Finkle All Stars. I've been using that name for years now.

Yup. Humans develop into females by default. We only develop into males when the gene SRY (Sex determining Region of the Y-chromosome) on the Y chromosome is expressed (which starts at about 40 days after conception). If it is not expressed due to mutation or some kind of repression of the gene, then that fetus will develop into a female despite carrying a Y chromosome.

And now back to your regularly schedule thread. ;)

This is a really sad story. She won the medals back in '06. A sex test was performed on her by a doctor who did not speak her language and nobody told her what was going on. Shockingly, the test at the '06 Asian Games is not the most exact test out there. But her federation gave her no support and helped railroad her. She was a female with messed up chromosomes from a very low caste, so they just didn't care.

Since then, this not the first time the police have attempted to arrest her based on the sex issue.

Yes, like consider Olympic shooting, which was coed for years, until a woman won gold. The very next games, women were banned from competing, and the one after that, they created a new "women's" division which had different requirements.
Or consider ski jump, where a woman held the world record for several years, but wasn't allowed to compete at the Olympics... on the same slope.

Or consider boxing or weightlifting, where there are not simply two classes of "male" and "female" boxers, but dozens of weight classes, because they realized that weight is the primary determining factor.
