The Tulsa world says the opposite of what stealthhippo has to say.

/hope to god gov Fallin accepts the Medicaid expansion

Maybe you haven't noticed, but you have exactly zero credibility with the vast majority of users on this site owing to the fact that you spend most of your time here blindly cheerleading for your team along purely partisan lines on ever single goddamn issue.

I don't know his name from the politics tab. I DO know it from the vast amount of cleavage he spews out in the occasional thread. He has a lot of credibility there.

The Stealth Hippopotamus: How did you get there?

They do a shiatty wasteful job that other people do well so they are getting their funding cut. Total dollars to the projects are not being cut, Planned Parenthood just isn't getting a cut.

The Oklahoma government claims that their cost per participant is high.

The actual clinics are giving them a puzzled look, checking their ledgers, and saying "um... no. They're the same as everyone else's".

Guess which group, historically, is more trustworthy regarding facts of this nature.

Rug Doctor: clowncar on fire: Karac: The Stealth Hippopotamus: How did you get there?

Oklahoma is a republican minority controlled state.
Republicans Minorities have been on a bender of trying to defund Planned Parenthood because of abortion.
Republicans Minorites are not above lying to do so.*

How did subby get there? A better question is how did you NOT get there.

*We've substituted the word "republican" for the word "minorities". Les's see if anyone can see the difference...

Seriously though. This sort of post no worse then any of the other of the racist comments posted around here so let's get our little indignant motors fired up and start calling people out on this stuff when we see it. I like you, Silly Jesus but you're sometimes like that friend that's had one too many and doesn't know when to give it a rest. Persuasion, dude. Hearts and minds.

Great thread otherwise, guys. Seems like people are listening tonight instead of slinging mud everywhere.

Cheers.

Except unlike "minorities," Republicans HAVE been making a concerted effort to defund Planned Parenthood. I'm not even gonna source it because you obviously already know.

Yes, republicans- to varying degrees-- take issue with some of the services provided by Planned Parenthood and are willing to dismantel the program in an effort to prevent some of those services from occurring. No one denying that.

It's how you say it, and the viciousness in how you imply their actions are. There are are those in any cause- no matter what political affiliation-- that would justify a lie if it they believed that lie would further that cause. You seem to truly believe that lying is a unique trait only inherent to conservatives in a way not dissimilar to a racist pontificating on negroes, chicken, and watermelon.

You may feel the way you express your dislike of conservatives in a liberal leaning site is acceptable but the truth is- you are on the extreme end. Your tone puts people on the defensive, you cause polarization of the worst sense of the word, and you are everthing that's wrong about today's political discourse. Hopefully someone on the liberal side of the house will call you out for what you are.

I put this challenge to all farkers- both sides of the house-- to call out the extremists when they start shooting their spiel. A majority of us have a stake in the outcome- let's not let extremists set the tone.

Is the state legislature of Oklahama controlled by Republicans, or is it not? Is the governor a republican, or is she not?
Have republicans tried dozens of times in the last year or two to defund Planned Parenthood and have they passed several laws severely restricting access to abortion or have they not? Has or has not the Republican majority Senate in Oklahoma passed a fetus personhood bill?
Have Republicans lied about Planned Parenthood in order to drum up support for destroying it, or have they not? Do you not remember when a republican lawmaker said 97% of what planned parenthood does is abortion, then later admitted to pulling that straight out of his asshole?

Sure, you can repost what I said and change one word for another, but I didn't see anywhere in your comment where you refuted a damn thing I claimed. It's not mudslinging if it's backed up by facts.

The cost of an abortion is tiny compared to the cost of raising an unwanted child via social services (foster care, WIC, etc.). Why do Republicans fight so hard to allow kids to be born and yet do not want to offer assistance in raising the unplanned child?

The most effective way to decrease both teen pregnancy and abortion rates is to provide contraception and education. Planned parenthood is more about providing womens' health services and contraception rather than abortion.

Take planned parenthood away, and abortion rates will go up. But that's okey for the righties - it allows them to bellow more.

"Socialism, like the ancient ideas from which it springs, confuses the distinction between government and society. As a result of this, every time we object to a thing being done by government, the socialists conclude that we object to its being done at all. We disapprove of state education. Then the socialists say that we are opposed to any education. We object to a state religion. Then the socialists say that we want no religion at all. We object to a state-enforced equality. Then they say that we are against equality. And so on, and so on. It is as if the socialists were to accuse us of not wanting persons to eat because we do not want the state to raise grain."

Let's add "we object to tax dollars being used for medical operations of choice; and the socialists accuse us of being against medicine in its entirety".

Personally, I'd rather our handouts go straight to the people who need the assistance rather than filter through some convoluted bureaucracy, but I'm pretty sure most Republicans would go into conniptions about the idea of being able to apply for an abortion credit.

I don't think there's enough concern for the father of a rape baby in these kind of situations. He didn't plan to raise a child, and he's thrust into a situation he didn't want. Yet we worry solely about the mother (or in the case of conservatives, the baby too).

2012-11-12 08:57:16 PM
I've actually curious here: I assume the obligation of government to continue funding of these facilities is on the basis that such decisions must be reviewed to ensure the allocation of money is not politically motivated or otherwise intended to disenfranchise respective groups ... but what guarantees them this money, outside of such concerns? Of course this is a bad example, as it's a not-even-thinly-veiled attempt to strike a blow against abortion.

Two part question deserves a two part answer. Sanctity of life. No, we don't hold a monopoly on the value of a life, but we do hold more traditional values about it's definition. In that sense, we see terminating a pregnancy as terminating a life. We do our best to give that life a chance.

So why are we not so on board with subsidizing that life? Back to a hodge-podge of other values we hold true (again, not monopolized): personal accountability, self reliance, responsibility, etc. We feel if you responsible to make baby, you should be responsible to care for that baby. I'm not going to deny that these values do not have Christian origins in which it was believed that children were to be a result of intentional procreation coming into existance by purpose, and for a purpose, and should therefore have value and are to be protected.

It's no secret that i tend to lean to the right a bit, however I don't entirely share these more traditional views. While I do respect the sanctity of life over termination on demand, I also feel that the final choice of termination should be reserved for the woman who carries that child: I personally would not support any law that would interfere with that choice.

That being said, I in principal, agree with Silly Jesus, that those who oppose abortions on moral grounds- the conscientous objectors in the moral war as it were-- should not have to fund them. I'm kinda meh to that moral extent though- I just want to know i'm not funding a termination as an after thought to birth control. You placed your bet, you shot craps, now cover it yourself.

Anyhow, my ramblings on the topic in an effort to explain the why we want to save it but not pay for it later incosistancy that comes up from time to time.

No Water, No Moon

When the nun Chiyono studied Zen under Bukko of Engaku she was unable to attain the fruits of meditation for a long time.

At last one moonlit night she was carrying water in an old pail bound with bamboo. The bamboo broke and the bottom fell out of the pail, and at that moment Chiyono was set free!

In commemoration, she wrote a poem:

In this way and that I tried to save the old pail
Since the bamboo strip was weakening and about
to break
Until at last the bottom fell out.
No more water in the pail!
No more moon in the water!

Why is it every time you post this poem I can't stop picturing Tom Cullen belting out Bob Marley's "No Woman, No Cry" and spelling out M-O-O-N after every other verse?

You said I'm an idiot. I interpret that differently than ignorant. Ignorant you can change...idiot you can't....at least how I use the term. Idiot implies a hardwired deficiency, which you say that I have...yet you are trying to figure out why when on the internet I don't just switch that off and be a non-idiot. Your potatos are cereal.
