How did you get there?

They do a shiatty wasteful job that other people do well so they are getting their funding cut. Total dollars to the projects are not being cut, Planned Parenthood just isn't getting a cut.

For once in your life take off your blinders and regard this for exactly what it is; punishing Planned Parenthood yet again for daring to offer a federally-protected service by cutting off necessary funding for other services. Ironically, these clinics don't even offer that service, just referrals. TFA specifically says none of this is supported by actual facts, and given the gauntlet of neanderthal reasons for cutting funding to PP that have originated in these red states, I think the onus of proof now falls on the agency that has decided to purposefully withhold aid to low-income families.

Here's a better article, anyway. Pretty much supports the "They're being douches" angle.

Sorry but the Tulsa World backs me up. They're doing a bad job. Guess what? You shouldn't get the funding if you're doing a bad job with it. The only thing that leads you to believe that it's politically motivated is the head of Planned Parenthood saying it is. And what are they suppose to do? Admit they are messing up and the state is in the right?! Planned Parenthood has been Planned Parenthood for a long long time and the State of Oklahoma has been the State of Oklahoma longer than that. What has changed? It claims the department has violated the organization's First and 14th Amendment rights "by imposing a penalty on its advocacy for access to safe and legal abortion services, referrals for abortion and/or its association with abortion services." Did Planned Parenthood just start giving abortions? (the answer is no) So they got the funding when they had these political ideals and now they dont have the funding and still have those political ideals. It will be fun watching them try to explain that in a court of law. Well nothing has changed other than they have proof we are doing a bad job! Give us out funding back!!

I know it's really weird for a government program to use logic. But I'll take a win any time I can. And improving government efficiency is a win.

I feel sorry for any normal person who has to live in Oklahoma and needs services.

What's really sad is, if they get away with this nonsense with Planned Parenthood, they'll go after other agencies next.

Republicans are not above lying to do so.

Planned Parenthood alleges in its lawsuit that the health department has given a "hodgepodge of reasons" for ending the contracts but that none of those reasons are supported by facts.

Oh, well thank God we have the news media to tell us what the facts are so we can allow those aforementioned facts to guide our judgement in these kinds of things.

This was an excellent article.

The Women, Infant and Children program provides supplemental nutrition assistance to low-income women who are pregnant or have recently given birth, as well as to children younger than 5.

What color is the sky in your world?

Planned Parenthood, somehow, kept their government contracts for nearly two decades. So, either they suddenly got really bad at their job of the political climate changed. Seeing as how their most recent audit showed no serious issues, I'll go with political climate. And, given the fact that they were knowingly staying open on weekends and holidays, it would seem the costs are expected. They weren't even told about any cost issues nor given a chance to rectify any issues (even if they had shown up.

But, I think your gut really tells you PP was in the wrong. And, that's all that matters.

Ah! A couple of facts...

Although caseload numbers had been falling, they were on the rise at the time the contract was terminated. Also, the organization is routinely audited and its most recent audit did not raise concerns about its performance, according to the court filing.

Cost per participant was slightly higher because clinics were open for extended hours and occasionally on the weekends. The department never told the organization its costs were too high and if it had, Planned Parenthood would have worked to reduce them, according to the filing.

Smells like an abortion witchunt to me.

PP does not necessarily offer all services but it does referrals to clinics they think are OK, and pushes referrals strongly. So the poor woman who's in for birth control pills is strongly pushed to go get a pap smear, mammogram or what have you.

Not getting preggo is a great incentive to go have some uncomfortable medical molesting done at a decent clinic. In the long run, it's way less expensive and painful than reproduction.

Then if cancer or another condition is caught early, the medical care required will be cheaper than the alternative. Such as, somebody has full-blown stage 4 cancer and it costs 10s of thousands of dollars to drag their miserable life out for a year or two. And somebody has to pay for it, often taxpayers.

To sum up, let's support women's health and control over their fertility, so fund PP. (and remember kids, you'll be saving on welfare down the line if less unwanted children are born.)

Anything you say is worth exactly camel spit as far as most of us are concerned so if you plan to have anybody take you even remotely seriously, especially regarding an issue like this where the far-right has expended so much effort demonizing and attacking a perfectly legitimate and important health organization because it dares to provide access to a legal medical procedure that bible thumpers don't care for, you're going to have to verify your commentary with third person, respectable sources.

tl;dr: you're a liar so if you expect anybody to give half a shiat about your opinions you better back them up with cited facts

No Water, No Moon

When the nun Chiyono studied Zen under Bukko of Engaku she was unable to attain the fruits of meditation for a long time.

At last one moonlit night she was carrying water in an old pail bound with bamboo. The bamboo broke and the bottom fell out of the pail, and at that moment Chiyono was set free!

In commemoration, she wrote a poem:

In this way and that I tried to save the old pail
Since the bamboo strip was weakening and about
to break
Until at last the bottom fell out.
No more water in the pail!
No more moon in the water!
