zackthebass: vernonFL: Al Qaeda in Libya was only a minor threat to us. They are a bunch of rancid political misfits with suicidal tendencies following a bad religion. There is no doubt in my mind that sooner or later, the terrorists who caused panic at the (Berlin) discos of the 1980s would come back to haunt us. The clash of civilizations was inevitable. So I say, FU Bengazi.

I feel like I'm missing one in the last sentence.

Fugazi, I think.

This just in : attackers justify their crimes with reasons.

This is also not something that would have been changed under a Republican presidency.

I really hate Fox News.

It would have been much better if the President just came out right away and revealed all of the undercover agents identities so they could be all killed, too, right, rather than delaying release of that information until Americans and allied agents could be secured?

ferretman: An Ambassador was assassinated...when is the last time that happened? I guess after a US Ambassador requests additional security multiple times and is turned down...no one should be blamed because Obama.

You ignorant slut.

Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) said today that he voted to cut funding for U.S. embassy security amid political attacks from Republicans that the Obama administration did not do enough to secure the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya that was attacked last month.

Republicans and their allies have been trying to politicize the attack - which killed four Americans, including the U.S. Ambassador to Libya - suggesting, without evidence, the Obama administration may have ignored intelligence that the attack was imminent, didn't properly secure the Benghazi compound and is now trying to cover it up.

But hidden beneath the GOP campaign is the fact that House Republicans voted to cut nearly $300 million from the U.S. embassy security budget. When asked if he voted to cut the funds this morning on CNN, Chaffetz said, "Absolutely":

O'BRIEN: Is it true that you voted to cut the funding for embassy security?

CHAFFETZ: Absolutely. Look, we have to make priorities and choices in this country. We have - think about this - 15,000 contractors in Iraq. We have more than 6,000 contractors, private army there for President Obama in Baghdad.

And we're talking about can we get two dozen or so people into Libya to help protect our forces? When you're in tough economic times, you have to make difficult choices how to prioritize this.

Link

It also deserves resources. In each of the last two years, Congress has cut President Obama's request for U.S. Foreign Service and U.S. Agency for International Development staffing levels despite repeated analysis by the Government Accountability Office, the investigative arm of Congress, indicating that our embassies are critically understaffed.

But even more inexcusable are the repeated and deep cuts made to embassy security and construction. Thousands of our diplomatic personnel are serving overseas in facilities that do not come close to meeting the minimal requirements for security established by the so-called Inman commission's report on overseas diplomatic security to President Ronald Reagan's secretary of state more than two decades ago.

Nor is it likely to change anytime soon. In the 2011 continuing resolution, Congress, at the insistence of the House of Representatives, slashed the president's request for embassy security and construction and forced another cut in fiscal year 2012. Altogether Congress has eliminated $296 million from embassy security and construction in the last two years with additional cuts in other State Department security accounts.

WhyKnot: s1ugg0: There are some very legitimate questions to be asked about what happened in Benghazi. And before anyone starts attacking me, I'm a liberal and I believe this.

However, the problem is Fox News.

They have been like a dog with a bone on this issue. So now real news organizations are afraid to get lumped in with the crazies. So they have been avoiding the story. But a US diplomat was murdered under very bizarre circumstances. It should be investigated. Questions should be asked. But sadly because Fox News decided they might be able to stick this to Obama and prevent him from being reelected; no one reputable is investigating this. If they hadn't been so rabid to score political points before an election we might actual have some dialog on this.

Once again proving they support party/ideology over America.

As a counter point...doesn't the fact that the other news outlets were unwilling to legitimately investigate this story before the election show they were willing to down play a legitimate story prior to an election in order to help Obama get elected?

you mean like the NYTimes sitting on the illegal wholesale wiring tapping by the Bush Admin on every American for over a year at the behest of the white house until after the election ?

Sure. But this is the sort of thing that tends to happen when Media outlets as a whole- left and right of center- decide that "entertainment value" is more important than veracity.

That said, we as the media-consuming public are also to blame for, oh, I dunno, swallowing it hook, line and sinker.

Don't get me wrong, I mean I am in favor of torture, but it just seems pretty pathetic that so many staunch advocates of human rights are willing to look the other way.........in favor of what though?

What do you have to gain by abandoning your principles to live a life of philosophical poverty?
