So General Petraeus, the Great White Hope of the Republican Party and the greatest general of this age or any other, was having Libyans covertly kidnapped in Libya and detaining them in insufficiently secure black prisons attached to U.S. diplomatic installation in Libya, and those kidnapped Libyan's colleagues may have attacked our diplomatic installations in an attempt to free them, and Petraeus told all this to some chick he's farking on the side, who then blabbed it to the media in her self-appointed capacity as his "informal spokesman"?

I'm starting to think FOX/RNC News is going to wish it hadn't made such an issue of "what really happened in Benghazi..."

I'm also starting to think Obama must have demanded Petraeus' resignation immediately after the election.

Invading a country on false pretenses, causing thousands of American deaths and countless civilian deaths (allowing the terrorist group that actually attacked us to not only get away with attacking us, but to actually get *stronger* in the process) is, in fact, a bigger deal than four people dying at a consulate in an unstable nation. Again, far more Americans died in consulates and embassies under most recent Presidents, even limiting it to first terms...and we barely heard a peep about most of 'em.

The outrage over Benghazi is just another example of Republicans trying to make something, ANYTHING, stick. It's partisan desperation, and nothing more.

Wise_Guy: So this doesn't matter because Iraq was worse?

It matters. The facts of the case matter.

What doesn't matter is the noise coming from the right in their continued attempt to stomp over the dead bodies of four Americans to try and stir a controversy solely because they want to gain some political traction.

This is just another example of where the right is shiatting all over a legitimate issue and making people not care about it because they can't keep their stupid maws shut and not try to turn it into a purely partisan attack on their political opponents.

Just like these shiatheels killed any chance of getting some reasonable reflection and reform after Fast and Furious, they're ensuring now that we won't be able to get any reasonable reflection and reform after Benghazi.

Somebody splain to me why this story is a Drudge four-siren? My theories.

Assuming the Fox sources actually exist, and know what they're talking about (doubtful, but go with it), then the CIA was running a detention center in Bengazi, while claiming that they stopped doing that in 2009. 'K, scandalish.

Petraeus told his bouncey buddy classified info about this, and she let the cat out of the bag at a speech. Seems likelier, and trouble for them, but scandalish to anyone BUT them? How, exactly?

The FBI had this whole thing locked down between Oct. 26 and the election, but didn't go public before the election to avoid getting involved in politics. Not a scandal; just good sense, UNLESS they had their case all built and didn't inform Petraeus that we was in trouble. It sounds like Petraeus and Broadwell probably knew they were busted before the election, and just delayed the announcement. If so, not a scandal. If the FBI held off on telling those two they were busted, then our nation was in MORTAL PERIL of a blackmailer squeezing sekruts out of Petraeus during that week they held off. Mini-scandalish, about as bad as Travelgate.

The US consulate in Benghazi was being used as a front for under-the-table CIA activities? Huh, imagine that.

It's not as if Darrell Issa blew the lid on that farker wide off by accident, violating federal law (and his oath of office) by divulging classified information to the public, a month and a half ago.

Or that this kind of BS went on with shocking regularity during the previous administration in the name of the War on Terror, leading to record numbers of US embassy and consulate attacks.

Or that Petraeus' appointment as DCI was a conciliatory gesture by Obama, after having been Bush's boy in Iraq and Afghanistan for seven years prior.

But hey let's not let anything that could possibly look bad for Republicans get in the way of the narrative, right?

Well, Issa did also disclose the identities of Libyan informants for the CIA...

...which, you know, is going to create a rift of distrust between the Libyans and the US, especially using consulates as CIA black sites, and make working with the transitional government, forging strong diplomatic ties, and ensuring a peaceful and moderate Libyan government much more difficult in the future.

Of course, that doesn't help conservatives in the least, what with it being one less Middle Eastern boogeyman to invoke to scare stupid Americans into voting GOP.

There are some very legitimate questions to be asked about what happened in Benghazi. And before anyone starts attacking me, I'm a liberal and I believe this.

However, the problem is Fox News.

They have been like a dog with a bone on this issue. So now real news organizations are afraid to get lumped in with the crazies. So they have been avoiding the story. But a US diplomat was murdered under very bizarre circumstances. It should be investigated. Questions should be asked. But sadly because Fox News decided they might be able to stick this to Obama and prevent him from being reelected; no one reputable is investigating this. If they hadn't been so rabid to score political points before an election we might actual have some dialog on this.

Once again proving they support party/ideology over America.

"Now, I don't know if a lot of you heard this, but the CIA annex had actually, um, had taken a couple of Libyan militia members prisoner and they think that the attack on the consulate was an effort to try to get these prisoners back. So that's still being vetted."

Not only that, to quote TFA:

According to multiple intelligence sources who have served in Benghazi, there were more than just Libyan militia members who were held and interrogated by CIA contractors at the CIA annex in the days prior to the attack. Other prisoners from additional countries in Africa and the Middle East were brought to this location. The Libya annex was the largest CIA station in North Africa."

Fox is probably bragging rather than complaining, but still.

First 4 I could find with a 5 minute google search.

2002: U.S. Consulate In Karachi, Pakistan, Attacked; 10 Killed, 51 Injured.
2004: U.S. Embassy Bombed In Uzbekistan. 2 killed, 9 injuried
2004: Gunmen Stormed U.S. Consulate In Saudi Arabia. 5 Killed
2008: Ten People Killed In Bombings At U.S. Embassy In Yemen
