It's very likely that it is, and it's very likely the claims were specifically chosen in order to make it look like he's not a prima donna.

The investigation is being ordered because there's two ways this goes:

Wilson is telling the truth. In this case, the president now has corroboration from outside sources and can justify getting rid of Leach and his contract. It appeases everyone and puts all the blame on Leach.
Wilson is full of sh*t. In this case, the president now has corroboration from outside sources that justifies Leach's continued employment and avoids any perception of trying to sweep this under the rug.

Either way, calling for the investigation is the right move for him and for WSU.
