nekom: Delay: Oh, it did, it did.But not the way the Republicans wanted.Indeed. And their response is that they need to change the way voting goes to make it more `fair' to them? How about NOT distancing yourself from absolutely any homosexual, minority or woman who votes in their own interests.I'm a liberal, and I couldn't be more pleased with the outcome, but I truly would like to see a competitive alternative out there that doesn't massively suck as hard as any party has ever sucked.
nekom: How did their message not resonate with the people?
ignatius_crumbcake: Irving Maimway: When are they all Going Galt? I was promised this four years ago and I'm still waiting.According to Free Republic, they are doing it now. Of course, their understanding of Atlas Shrugged is on par with their understanding of the Bible, so they aren't so much going Galt as they are going Holden Caulfield.
Weaver95: Rwa2play:They're getting to the point where most of sane America will just ignore them and leave in the cave or somethin'.so far i'm seeing/hearing two things from the GOP pundits:1. they lost because they fought a clean campaign and the Democrats were mean vile sub-humans who fought dirty.2. there is NOTHING WRONG with the GOP agenda and changing the GOP social policy goals is off the table. in fact, the Republicans should move FURTHER to the right because they need to be more conservative in order to win in 2014.
CygnusDarius: I don't get it. Even the 2008 elections weren't that bad... Why is this shiatstorm this powerful?.
unexplained bacon: Weaver95: wow. just...wow.Limbaugh just accused the Democrats of deliberately taking extremist positions JUST to make the GOP look bad. its a conspiracy!@weaverxp if you want to join the fun.I don't know how you trudge through all that shiat. you're braver than I.so they're evolving from it's everyone's fault but ours, to it's everyone's fault and we were tricked.these guys keep tugging each others bootstraps like this they might just pull 'em off.
Weaver95: jgbrowning: I hope they really do double-down on the derp. The faster they do, the better for the country.Limbaugh today seems to be suggesting that the Republicans stand their ground and don't give in to Democratic party immorality. I think he's saying the Republicans should move further to the right....but it's difficult to tell sometimes. right now he's expanding on a theory as to why he's NOT to blame for Romney's loss. which is very odd because nobody I know is blaming Rush Limbaugh for Romney's f*ck ups.
jgbrowning: I hope they really do double-down on the derp. The faster they do, the better for the country.
GAT_00: It's intriguing. They recognize there is a problem, and then intentionally veer away from any logical solution.
CygnusDarius: MFAWG: That socially conservative agenda is appealing to blacks, Latinos, and AsianAnd ladyparts./I want to appeal to ladyparts, damn it
Irving Maimway: Weaver95: unexplained bacon: Weaver95: wow. just...wow.Limbaugh just accused the Democrats of deliberately taking extremist positions JUST to make the GOP look bad. its a conspiracy!@weaverxp if you want to join the fun.I don't know how you trudge through all that shiat. you're braver than I.so they're evolving from it's everyone's fault but ours, to it's everyone's fault and we were tricked.these guys keep tugging each others bootstraps like this they might just pull 'em off.you should have heard LImbaugh just a few moments ago - he actually complained that 'the media' was mean to Romney and that everyone on the left should be ashamed of themselves for destroying Romney's good character.um...remember sandra fluke? 'cause the rest of us do.I think Newt was meaner to Mitt than Obama was. Did you see that documentary Sheldon Adelson paid for? That's the kind of stuff you say during a divorce.
Delay: abb3w: I suspect Virginia could be swung back red, IF the GOP give up the pants-on-head crazy levels of conservatism; stop trying to push so much to the insane hard right on abortion, but fight hard to preserve the status quo on it a little longer. That might be enough for Ohio and Florida, also. The short-term difficulty with this approach would seem to be that the crazies appear unwilling to back down the slightest from abject ideological purity.Colorado was the "tipping point" state. This is the problem for the Republicans going forward. Even if Romney had won Virginia AND Ohio AND Florida, given his other victories, he would have lost the election. The crazies gave the Republicans most of their state victories in 2012. Republicans can't give up on their Christian right stands on pro-choice, civil rights, and other socially conservative policies. The Republicans are not financially conservative. They really, really want tax cuts for the rich, no matter what it does to the deficit. How is that financial conservatism? For better or worse Republicans are the socially conservative party. Were the Republicans to abandon abject ideological purity, they would lose to the next George Wallace who could again come from the Democratic party. If they abandon tax cuts for the rich, they lose their multinational corporations support. If they abandon invading on Iran, they lose their corporate support. If I were a Republican, I would point out the only choice is to abandon the Christian right agenda, abandon the neo-con agenda, abandon the trickle-down corporate agenda and return to being the party of financial conservatism. Period.

Weaver95: CygnusDarius: I don't get it. Even the 2008 elections weren't that bad... Why is this shiatstorm this powerful?.that's a good question. my guess? the GOP internal polls showed a crushing defeat for Obama. when Obama instead won by a landslide margin, that shook the pillars of heaven, at least for the Republican party. there's a lot you can infer from such a massive defeat for Romney and NONE of it good for the True Believers in the GOP.or put more simply, the GOP stepped outside the echo chamber for the first time in 4 years and didn't like reality very much.
Jackson Herring: If only married people voted, Romney would have won in a landslide. If only married religious people voted, you'd need a word that means something much bigger than landslide. Obviously, Obama got some votes from the married and the religious (such people can marry their interests to the state, too), but as a generalization, the Obama coalition heavily depends on people who do not see family or religion as rival or superior sources of material aid or moral authority.
Weaver95: or put more simply, the GOP stepped outside the echo chamber for the first time in 4 years and didn't like reality very much.
Summer Glau's Love Slave: So, Obama is still black?/He really should try to correct that.
Weaver95: GAT_00: It's intriguing. They recognize there is a problem, and then intentionally veer away from any logical solution.when you think about it, that's kind of the GOP in microcosm....
Delay: The battleground states, whose electoral vote decided the election (including winning margin) were:

Delay: Oh, it did, it did.But not the way the Republicans wanted.
markie_farkie: A friend of a friend was a Cabela's north of Dallas over the weekend and, according to the guy at the gun counter, it was Gunday Sunday, and the place had been packed ever since Wednesday.Apparently people are stocking up on firearms, just so the U.N. can take them away any moment.*SIGH*
