"Americans choose socialism" ran the headline in Sheldon Adelson's Israel Today, which must have really enraged the kibbutzim.

When my FEMA trailer gets here, I'll believe in the DOOM that is being bandied about...

Well the Romney camp tried to build a better ACORN. They called it ORCA, see how they got rid of the N? Hahah little inside joke there. If only they had more bandwidth their plan of dropping the N would have been worked!

The frightening part (to me) isn't the crazy things said by the right wing bloggers. I realize most of them are only in it for the money. The frightening part is how many people fervently believe what these hacks are writing.

that's a good question. my guess? the GOP internal polls showed a crushing defeat for Obama. when Obama instead won by a landslide margin, that shook the pillars of heaven, at least for the Republican party. there's a lot you can infer from such a massive defeat for Romney and NONE of it good for the True Believers in the GOP.

or put more simply, the GOP stepped outside the echo chamber for the first time in 4 years and didn't like reality very much.

CygnusDarius: I don't get it. Even the 2008 elections weren't that bad... Why is this shiatstorm this powerful?.

The underlying economic indicators were very bad for an incumbant. The right had it set in their mind that Obama would fail to be reelected and they could get their tax cuts. Now fartbongo is still in office and he made it clear he wants the wealthiest to pay a little bit more. This is unacceptable because a small percentage of the right will have to pay more and that small percentage has convincingly lied to the rest in convincing them that this will be bad for the poor and middle class as well. And abortion because Jesus.

I think four years of anti-Obama fox propaganda did it.

they've been programmed to believe Obama is destroying America with his failed policies that failed and are failures because socialism.

They've been going to chicken little classes for Obama's entire term preparing for the specter of an Obama second term. The sky is falling!!!

Or it's the opposite: they've become so entrenched in the echo chamber that losing this election was proof that voter fraud and the liberal media stole Romney's rightful victory. They're gonna be like Seahawks fans and talk about how they were robbed for years.

no, the GOP mantra seems to be 'Romney was a good, honorable guy who just got ambushed by that mean old nasty Obama feller'. Limbaugh is just one amongst the chorus but essentially the Republican pundit meme this week is that the libruls are big old meanie heads who slandered poor defenseless Romney. nobody on the right wing side EVER said ANYTHING mean about ANYONE on the LEFT so the Republicans just don't understand where all this librul hate came from....

Jackson Herring: If only married people voted, Romney would have won in a landslide. If only married religious people voted, you'd need a word that means something much bigger than landslide. Obviously, Obama got some votes from the married and the religious (such people can marry their interests to the state, too), but as a generalization, the Obama coalition heavily depends on people who do not see family or religion as rival or superior sources of material aid or moral authority.

And its this kind of commentary I cannot understand. The white demographic is shrinking, especially the white, old, Christian male section of the demographic, and is beginning to reach a point where securing this demographic will not ensure an election victory. Do these people honestly believe there's some "hidden" pocket of white male Christians that will rain forth from the heavens on an election day & save the day by not voting for the black blah guy? I thought the works of Sinclair Lewis were supposed to be fiction with societal commentary, not an instructional guide.

A side story: my husband's cousin who is a full-fledged Christian fundie teabagger, posted on facebook regarding an earthquake that occurred in Kentucky -- M4.3 near Whitesburg. The comments on the post all said the same thing: "it was the beginning of the end of times." This was followed by a ton of "amen"s. I'm sitting here thinking that if God were to smite mankind, I think he would use more effective and deadlier natural disasters than a meager M4.3 earthquake.

2. there is NOTHING WRONG with the GOP agenda and changing the GOP social policy goals is off the table. in fact, the Republicans should move FURTHER to the right because they need to be more conservative in order to win in 2014.

I'm out of bottles. I'm having to use my rain barrels to catch the sweet, sweet tears of neoconservative and religious zealot rage.

It warms my heart to watch the GOP become even more extremist as a result of the election, as if they lost because they were somehow "weak" on their hate - their bigotry, their misogyny, their racism, their nationalism - and that, if they could've just doubled down on it, they would've won. It's weird - it's as if they believe that, if they would've only had more faith in rich white Christian men, then they could've convinced the poor, the people of color, the godless, and the women what was right and just.

They don't understand why they lost and, just as importantly, have no useful data from which to draw, because they don't trust data not provided by their own biased sources. The party's own moderates are heretics that must be purged, and everyone else are heathens, suitable only for the book or the sword.

Warms my heart, it does - it's been a while since we've had an Inquisition.

That may be part of it, but the real difference is in 2008 we hadn't heard 4 years of solid coverage about how Obama was actively destroying America. Last time we screwed up as a nation and voted for the liberal blark guy, This was unfortunate, but forgivable. This time we voted for a well known enemy of the state with a 4 year record of never doing anything right ever while the economy collapsed upwards, unemployment skyrocketed downward, and the stock market failed by doubling in value.
