In your defense, it's usually hard to tell with Jezebel. Their writers aren't particularly great at humor, and the wank can be really high on that site.

clkeagle: FlyPanAm: Please be Huntsman,

Let's see... a Secretary of State who was highly respected as our ambassador to China, at a time where our strategic emphasis is shifting to Asia. Yes, please.

and let him be the Republican nominee in 2016.
Or the Democratic nominee in 2016, if the GOP doesn't extract its head from its rectum and no better candidates emerge. The likelihood of me voting for him is extremely high, no matter what letter is after his name on the ballot.

If he was made SoS, I don't think he could run, considering the time and effort it takes to be SoS and gather support for a presidential run, and the fact SoS is meant to be seen as above the political fray to an extent ( thats why they don't attend the conventions). So i don't think he could do both, unless he only did a two year stint and quit (which would definitely make him Republican VP material at any rate).

Probably the number one reason Kerry won't become Secretary of State.

That's my thinking. That seat isn't as safe as everyone once believed. Brown proved that a few years back. Or Coakley proved it for him.

EyeballKid: ...last week I was listening to the AM right-wing 3 hours-of-hate shows for the schadenfreude, and countless time I heard pundits say that Romney should've picked Rubio, and then all the Latino votes would have been his. You know, the way Vice President Palin rallied all the women voters in '04, right?

Perhaps the GOP should stop thinking they can trot out their newest tokens and then announce them with an attitude of, "Here. Here's one of your own with us. You people like us now, righ? Great, see you in November." Perhaps the dumb savages can see through that by now.

There's been a couple of threads on this not only this election but in the past as well. There's a lot of Republicans that don't realize the difference between Cubans and Mexicans.

Obama would be a fool to appoint John Kerry. It would lead to a special election to fill his seat where Scott Brown would be the apparent front-runner.

Yes, but Messicans don't eat beans with rice. They eat beans, and rice. Cubans, on the other hand, eat beans with rice. See 'Moros con Cristianos', which is farking awesome.

Very good point. And really, SoS might be the absolute perfect job for him. Maybe he would bring enough credibility to the position that neither 2016 candidate would have any desire to replace him.

Last week Massachusetts ousted Scott Brown when they elected Democrat Elizabeth Warren. They also elected Democrat Joseph Kennedy, Democrat John Tierney, they approved the pro-consumer Question 1, and they supported the use of medical marijuana by approving Question 3. That doesn't seem to be an electorate eager to return to power a far-right Republican who supports the Ryan budget plan.

Why on Earth would anyone in their right mind take that chance?

Scott
Brown

There are 1,449,180 people in Mass who voted for Brown once, and he's a known entity that can just flip the campaign switch back to On versus whoever the Democrats ran against him, who would have to start from scratch.

It's not really taking a chance. Massachusetts is clearly blue. But the simple reason is because John Kerry will be an outstanding Secretary of State.

Farkers don't typically like conservatives, nor do they typically like China, but they like Huntsman for his experience with China.

You know why? Because he isn't a bathit insane "Real American" asshat screaming for Obama's head with every other breath. He's a decent person, willing to work with or for either "side."

You know. A diplomat.

First off, it's an obvious satire piece.
Second off, the Republicans genuinely believed that they'd pick up the female vote last time around by adding Palin to the ticket, despite her anti-choice views.
Third off:

Although the phrase "Southern strategy" is often attributed to Nixon's political strategist Kevin Phillips, he did not originate it,[8] but merely popularized it.[9] In an interview included in a 1970 New York Times article, he touched on its essence:

From now on, the Republicans are never going to get more than 10 to 20 percent of the Negro vote and they don't need any more than that...but Republicans would be shortsighted if they weakened enforcement of the Voting Rights Act. The more Negroes who register as Democrats in the South, the sooner the Negrophobe whites will quit the Democrats and become Republicans. That's where the votes are. Without that prodding from the blacks, the whites will backslide into their old comfortable arrangement with the local Democrats.

/The Republicans actually had the moral high ground on civil rights at one point. They willfully gave it up to win the votes of Negrophobe Southerners.
