The latest is that Petraeus sent his ex-mistress "thousands" of e-mails after their break up.

Which was only four months ago.

That means he's been sending her an average of 17 lovelorn e-mails per day. That could be the least manly thing ever done by a four-star general since that time Patton spontaneously started singing and dancing to the score of The Student Prince.

Please, please don't tell me if Sully Sullenberger ever made some chick a mix tape.

This is the part I don't get - in a more general (haha) sense:

What makes these guys in positions of high power think they can get away with it? What makes any guy think he can get away with it? Unless the wife knows what's going on and acquiesces to the situation, they almost always end badly and ruin a career/reputation/future. Is it arrogance? Fear of conflict? Self-delusion?

Even if it's a bit messy, ending your marriage is a helluva lot cleaner than the disasters we've seen these situations become.

Personally, I'm more interested in what Gen. Ham did that lost him his job at AFRICOM.  Petraeus did what soldiers have been doing forever...at least according to my research watching MASH for over 200 episodes.

The head of the CIA having an affair isn't a huge deal to me. The head of the CIA being unable to hide an affair means he probably shouldn't head of the CIA.

Based on my understanding of the details thus far (which I admit may incomplete), we wouldn't even be discussing any of this if Broadwell had kept her CrAzY in check and not sent a bunch of emails to an another woman.

Loose ends, man. You always burn your resource after you're done exploiting it. CIA Director should know that...

I am laughing my arse off watching people play with this event as if they have any idea what's going on.

As my FBI friend used to say to me when I would quote the MSM to him on a story ..

"Yeah. Who told you?"

And he was right. Source, people. Source. If you believe the MSM on anything, you're the Derp.

I'm now less confused but still confused on why Broadwell is sending emails to a family friend that were threatening. Unless said friend knew about the affair and was going to go to the wife / press to blow the lid off of it?

I agree, this shows he shouldn't be running the CIA or running the country and better to vet this out now.

That wasn't really direct at YOU necessarily...but at people who are married that cheat.

I NEVER understood what would motivate someone to do that. "I dunno...just kinda happened..." bullshiat. You made a decision to fark someone other than your spouse. You are a douche.

I had options when I chose to commit to a relationship with one woman....I could have chosen to NOT be in a monogamous relationship and instead continue dating around.

However, if you make a commitment to marry, and its not an open marriage-type situation, and you sleep with someone else, you are a douchebag.

Because for the most part, they do get away with it. Enough of them get caught to keep the rest on their toes, but guys with 1) Enough travel and time expenditures and 2) Enough money to keep the bill away from the old lady are now, and always have been, keeping the strange around without ill effect for centuries.

Irving Maimway: I'm guessing this will put a damper on his Presidential run in 2016.

I'd still vote for him.

Honestly, the only sex scandals that I care about are ones which involve an abuse of power, because I care about the abuse of power. I don't care if you're sleeping with your cancer-stricken wife's hot nurse, I don't care if you're having sex in the champagne room, I don't care if you're secretly getting it on in the bathroom with other dudes, I don't care if you're hiring high-price prostitutes through the Internet, I don't care if you're going to swinger clubs with your wife, and I certainly don't care if you're having a long-term affair with your biographer.

I do care if you're having sex with someone who works for you (particularly if there's a very significant difference in power) and I do care if you're redirecting money to get him/her a no-show job or just flat-out cash payments.

/Republican voter.
