You could start by not having the last name of "Nimrod".

// for some selves, i might rather they be someone else.

Perhaps. If somebody is grumpy or flaky all the time, I agree they should change. On the other hand, I think some people are annoying because they're trying very hard to be like the Fonz, or Steve McQueen, or somebody else instead of being themselves. I remember one time my uncle basically admitted that he was tired of projecting a hard-ass persona because it meant getting into a lot of fights he could have avoided.

'Nother random thought: I'm a big fan of silent movies and am kinda familiar with fads of the 20s. It's funny how things like spats on shoes, flat-chested flapper breasts, ukelele playing, etc. that seemed so cool back then look really dorky right now. Even looking back to my own childhood in the 70s, the insane obsession people had for expensive designer jeans and *ugh* disco looks pretty silly nowadays. Again, wearing the *right* clothes don't make you cool, it just means you're a slave to the herd instinct...

It's funny when some one decides that nonconformity equals cool, then quickly goes out and strictly conforms to the standards of some smaller, obscure subset of people.

I was being nonconformally cool before it was cool.

Marge: Am I cool, kids?
Bart and Lisa: No.
Marge: Good. I'm glad. And that's what makes me cool-not caring, right?
Bart and Lisa: No.

Behold, Sir Paul McCartney, with a mullet.

So, therefore 'Cool' appears to be a moving target...

Proclaiming your coolness is a very uncool thing to do.

Come on people this is basic stuff. Here are the rules.

#1 Saying you're cool means you aren't
#2 Making a list of what's cool on a popular internet website strips one of their cool
#3 Reading a list on a popular internet website strips one of their cool.

Paul Newman will always be the coolest to me. Not only did he exude "cool" onscreen, but he was a good guy in real life.

Yes, being like someone else make you cool.

If that someone else is Steve McQueen, then yes. Yes it does.

"Being aloof and detached is something that is attractive in and of itself," he said, "but if you don't interact with somebody or can't know much about their life, it creates more room for us to develop and project fantasies."

This is my projected fantasy:

I had that T-Rex action figure. He enjoyed stalking the lego pieces wasteland and was instrumental in waging never ending war against my lego constructs, transformers, and plastic army men.

Sorry, no. The instant you say that you are or aren't cool, you automatically aren't cool. Cool people never mention coolness. Everyone knows that they are cool and never says a word about it because they are too fearful of being shunned by the cool people.

/not a cool person
//I don't give a shiat either what anyone thinks

You sound like a Social Scientist. Either that or you've been speaking to Schutzstaffel, which I can imagine would be interesting.

Schutzstaffel? Yea sure, I converse with them over the same radio I use to speak with God.

Indiana Jones was a social scientist.

The best conversations that I've ever had were with a social scientist. He's a fascinating, funny dude.
