When he wanks he must break the sound barrier.

No surprise that he's a big hit with the ladies.

I'd like to know what causes the chalk to jump off the board.

That's a clever way to cover one's flatulence problem.

Anyone have access to a high-speed camera and a chalkboard? I'm curious myself.

I'd say "friction", but he's teaching a basic physics class, so friction doesn't exist.

It's a rare European chalk, from the Dover region of England. Very dry and compressed. Contact the Benjamin Dover Chalk Co.

Yo dawg, I heard you like science...

he is leading with the front edge of the chalk rather than dragging... glad we had a video to show basics from 1st grade...

For the most painless way to learn Electricity and Magnetism, HERE are the Flying Dutchman's lectures in 8.02 (MIT numbers their departments. 8 is physics). You owe it to yourself to watch the Rainbows lecture, and even if you don't know or care anything about physics, you should watch the Farewell Special.

Diarrhea Anne Frank: When he wanks he must break the sound barrier.

he's probably got some serious callusses from the friction.

The rainbows one is really cool.

Maybe it's a hidden talent of the Dutch. I went to HS in Holland and every maths/science prof. I ever had could do this trick.

When I was in high school, we called these "Getman Dots", after the Chemistry teacher who had mastered this technique. It's actually really easy. Think of it like skipping a stone. Usually, when writing on a chalk-board, you drag the chalk. Change your grip so that you're pushing the chalk. With a little fiddling, you'll see how you can skip it across the board, and voila- Getman dots.

In high school I had classroom which had one of those folding walls (like a huge accordion) to divide up a very large room into two classrooms. So the wall wasn't very substantial, and transmitted sounds very easily. They also put a chalk board on the portions of it without a crease for bending. I used to do that all the time and drive the teacher absolutely nuts on the other side. I'm surprised I never got detention for that.

I love this guys lectures, he's a real fun teacher. Alot of his classes are online for free MIT Open Courseware. Check out the physics section for him.

Are people really dumb enough to think his hand is that fast?
