This article missed one of the main points entirely:

Orangutangs will not survive in many places unless this industry is brought under restraint.

The article also says that it would increase the price of Nutella by about 5 cents per large (26oz) container. Then it goes on to say that the prices of snack foods are going to "soar". Sensationalist article is sensationalist.

I wholeheartedly support a ban on palm oil just to save orangutans even if it means no Nutella.

What the article doesn't mention is the other part of the bill being discussed at the assemblée right now and which involves a tax hike on beer. That has made me as happy as the Librarian when he's called a m-word.

So, in short: OOOK.

Yep, but European use of Palm oil is a drop in the ocean compared to the oil in all the instant noodles eaten by Asians.

So...it doesn't look like we can do much. Orangs will go the way of the tiger and rhino because of unthinking consumer behavior.

Nutella is one of the foods the gods felt benevolent enough to share with us mere mortals. It is enjoyed best simply smeared on Wheat Thins.

Yeah... you wouldn't want to start using actual cocoa butter instead of that palm oil crap, would you.

Think of the profits.

The frogs get proper Nutella, made at the Ferrero factory in Italy. We Brits have to put up with the Belgian-made version, which is nice, but not as nice as the Real Stuff.
