Is "celebrities rescuing people from car wrecks" the new sex tape? Seems like we get these stories every month. Personally I think they should just stick to leaking sex tapes for attention.

Why do people misuse "good Samaritan" so much? It's a racist term.
Samaritans hated Jews. A Samaritan helping a Jew was a shocking aberration.
It's like saying "Peace-loving Republican". It's not a real compliment.

And get your tales straight. Jews hated Samaritans, as they were considered "half-breeds". When Jesus told the tale of the Samaritan helping the beat-down Jew, it was a shocking story to the hearer. THis is because:

A- The mugged man appeared to be dead, and it was forbidden to touch a dead body lest you be unclean and be banned from the temple for days until you were clean again.
B- The first two people who passed him by were considered "holy men" by the Jews, and felt that their duty to the temple outweighed their duty to help a fellow man
C- The Samaritan man who generously helped the mugged man was not only likely hated by the mugged man, but had every right to hate him back and not help him. Yet he chose to help a fellow man regardless of his station.
D- Jesus's telling of this story came immediately after one who claimed to follow every law asked Jesus what he must to do be "justified". Jesus was telling this story to point out to the man that he needed to help others rather than just ticking off a list of laws. Jesus tended to challenge the proud by highlighting their dearest worldly possession. In this case, the man's pride and boastfulness are challenged as he saw he would be unlikely to help the man that was in need as well. (That last part is pure conjecture on my part)

You really shouldn't move or try to extract someone from a car wreck, unless they're in immediate danger of drowning or being burned alive. If they have a spinal injury, you're just going to aggravate it.

CSB time - I met Daniel Logan at Dragon*Con the year after Episode II came out. My ex and I were waiting for one of the elevators and he was on his way up to his room. Anyone who has been to D*C will know that meant we had plenty of time to talk. He was listening to an mp3 player without headphones and apologized, but we told him that was fine, and I mentioned we both thought he was great in the movie. He kind of smirked and said, "yeah, I got to be the guy every kid wishes he could be for about ten minutes." We chuckled and that was that - the elevator finally arrived and we rode up.

Really nice kid then, and clearly still is. I wish him the best of luck.

1) Politics tab is one over.
2) $10 says that you use the phrase "brown people" to refer to Caucasians that you don't think are quite "white" enough to be called "white people".

Thank you!

Cars don't blow up after a crash. If there's no active fire, it's unlikely that there's going to be one after the fact even if you do see a pool of gasoline around the car.

Another time when it's okay to move someone after a severe crash: when there's life threatening bleeding.

Kind of pedantic, that. "Bigoted" is probably a better term to use but changing the word doesn't change his point.
