Thanks for the vids. A fun stroll through the past. I truly, truly loved them as well, but Now I'm just relieved. RIP INXS, thanks for all the memories.

Seriously, no auto-erotic asphyxiation jokes in an INXS headline? That's a first.

They were the opening act for Matchbox 20. What kind of a life is that? They should've been put out of their misery years ago.

Always liked 'em - one of my favorite bands to get amped up to before I went out for a run or a bike ride.

But opening for Matchbox 20? Sheesh. Time to get a house on the beach and live off the royalties.

When they released this bittersweet version of "Don't Change" last year, I had a feeling they wouldn't be around for long.

I did enjoy INXS, a lot. If they had any chance to come back from losing MH it would have happened within a couple of years of his death. I think they waited far too long to try to replace lead singers and when they did they went fishing on a reality show, big mistake IMHO. Turned the audition process into a major joke.

Sad that the band never could overcome the loss, but not everyone is replaceable and MH had a strong presence/personality. More often than not you can't catch lightning in the same bottle twice.

"Never Tear Us Apart" is the greatest love song of all time. Of all time! Here's a great version of it by Beck and St. Vincent along with members of Liars and Os Mutantes

I must have sensed the change coming as I listened to all of my INXS CDs over the weekend.

The Swing was my favorite CD of theirs for the longest time but I don't think the sound has aged that well. Kick still sounds great, though.

Probably my favorite song with them is Good Times with Jimmy Barnes from the Lost Boys Soundtrack. I remember seeing them live many, many years ago and the entire audience sang along when they played the song. Sorry to see them break up but they really lost a lot with the death of Michael Hutchence.

I liked Fortune - I thought he captured the vocal sound of Hutchence with the handsome, subtle sexuality that Hutchence had as well. too bad there was too much siloing going on in the band....

2012-11-12 01:01:57 PM
I just saw them perform in NYC last year and they were fantastic. Still one of the best live bands to see, ever. Saw them with MH more times than I can count back in the 80's and 90's, so I was actually nervous to go to the show this time. I worried for nothing. The show was awesome, the songs all hold up, and it was a great night. JD Fortune was really good, I have to admit.

I'm sad they are calling it quits, but I hope they just reboot as something else and rise from the flames, so to speak. It's not like Michael was the big writer, it's the Farriss brothers. They can still write and produce great stuff in the future, and I hope that they do.

Still sad though. Very sad.

I saw them live. I think they were opening act for Night Ranger.

/ They'll be missed.

I saw INXS in the 80's when they had just become popular from exposure on MTV. I think they opened for Adam Ant, as a matter of fact.

They weren't the same without Michael Hutchence.

2012-11-12 03:05:08 PM
I haven't listened to INXS since Michael Hutchence died, but I used to like them a lot.

I was always a fan of theirs "back in the day". Saw them at Rupp in '92, on the "X" tour. I was kind of disappointed....their performance was kind of pedestrian.

2012-11-12 07:35:55 PM
I always thought having the reality show competition to find a new singer was a brilliant way of promoting their back catalog. They had a lot of songs that people had forgotten, or just didn't know that it was that band. "I remember this song! That was these guys?"
