Proteios1: Probably just giddy. She's a democrat pretending to be an unbiased journalist. Stephanopolis was Clinton's spokesperson. Now pretending to be unbiased. It's silly to think the left hasn't infiltrated the media. Except they are more insidious than Fox News. Fox News says, hey were politically right and biased. Hey-o!

Oh, I didn't know she was a Democrat! What with her career inside the Nixon White House and then later outside the White House as one of his literary aides....

Dow Jones and the Temple of Doom: Kejlina: If you go to the weird part of youtube, there's plenty of footage of newscasters puking and shiatting themselves on air.

I guess what I'm saying is: Don't visit the weird part of youtube.

Hoe would one... arrive at this particular area of YouTube... hypothetically speaking, mind you...

I don't know, it just always happens. One minute I'm looking at kittens, then BOOM. Harlequin babies.

Mayhem of the Black Underclass: GAT_00: Please tell me the video of the woman who had stroke isn't in here.

Yep, there it is. F*ck you Salon.

FTFA: Happily, it wasn't a stroke, but a special type of hereditary "complex migraine"-according to Branson's doctor. She was accepted back into the CBS fold, where she still works today.

and the followup Video

Interesting. I seem to remember that the original Fark thread had more video of her than that little snippet. That they cut away from her as in the Salon post but that the camera guy of course caught more footage. She seemed to be very frightened in the extended video. Am I nuts or did I remember that correctly?

Looks like these people never had a fun meteorologist. Here in KC we had Don Harman, too bad he had to go and kill himself last year.

Yeah, that one wasn't quite so funny.

It was just as funny as me stumbling around trying to do stuff with a great big blind patch wherever I try to look and jagged-line hallucinations when I get a bad ocular migraine, and I suspect I'm pretty funny then in a laugh-at-not-with way.

maddermaxx: GAT_00: Please tell me the video of the woman who had stroke isn't in here.

Apparently it wasn't a stroke, it was just the side effects of a Migraine. So, while it's still not fun laughing at someone for having a medical condition, at least it wasn't deadly or permanent, just scary for her.

I've had that happen to me during my last full-on migraine. My daughter kept telling me "Daddy, you're not making any sense." The words wouldn't come out right. Yikes.

KaiC: Guess I'm just old, I find these too sad to watch. The one with the woman who had a stroke (or migraine, whatever the doc wanted to call it) was obviously in the wrong list, and the last broadcast of the woman who crashed and drowned? I guess there's too much creep-factor there for me.

Complex migraines and mini-strokes are virtually indistinguishable. They can both leave lesions on the brain that show up on scans. One doc I spoke to said basically "if you're under 60, we diagnose as complex migraine. Over sixty, mini-stroke." And yeah, not cool to make fun of folks who are obviously medically impaired, don't KNOW what's going on with their bodies, and are horribly frightened about it.

It's a fine line sometimes. I'm young enough to chortle at the idiocy that is Honey Boo Boo, but old enough to feel bad for people who 1.) obviously have personal/substance issues that got broadcast on TV (the train wreck I prefer to look away from) or 2.) had medical issues that popped up without warning (no fault of their own and I find nothing funny about it).

Ernie Anastos having a Freudian slip and talking about farking chickens? Hellz yeah that's funny. Woman having a medical problem that causes loss of proper speech? Not so much funny there.

I've made that mistake before. Usually I can guess it but not a month ago. Article on gypsies and the holocaust and the whole thread was full of ignorant assess making fun of gypsies and making racial slurs. I tried to point out that people should not make fun of ethnic minorities and got several comments that I was an ass and didn't get the joke and no really all gypsies are dirty thieves. (note using gypsies instead of Roma on purpose)

CSB: This isn't hard to happen, I nearly did this myself in the Army. I was a crew chief and went up in an OH-58D, doors off, with a pilot who wanted to practice pinnacle landings.

We were hovering over a big dirt pile pinnacle he wanted to land on when he asked me to look out the door behind us to ensure we had cleared all obstacles.

I learned out the cockpit and unthinkingly braced my forearm on the collective stick, pushing downward, (we normally removed the co-pilots collective stick for single pilot operations). A second or two later, I heard a very strained, scared, and desperate pilot's voice over my helmet's earphones, .... "collective, collective.. get your arm off the collective".

Came quite close to eating the dirt. So yeah, damn easy to happen.

I can't believe nobody posted the clip of Sawyer drinking wine and popping pills and trash talking somebody who is doing blow and has problems as being crazy. Given her appearance it has to be from 30 years ago but apparently the drinking and drugging aren't anything new.

Years ago when I was a kid I would hang out with a neighbor of mine at the pool at our local Elk's Lodge. One time I saw one of the town's newscasters hanging at the bar, who my neighbor said was a regular. He staggered his way out about 9:15 in preparation for the 10 o'clock news. I watched him that night slur his way through the evening news. Apparently he was like that almost every night, but that night he was pretty trashed.

I always tell people how farking awesome that movie is even 30+ years later (even the non-Howard Beale dialog is epic), and that it's gone from being a hyperbolic fiction to a scarily prophetic documentary of the media industry.
