I got to hear a pre-paleoconservative Niall Ferguson give an even better lecture on the same topic. Yes, once he was a good historian.

Blackadder Goes Forth isn't too bad for this, either.

At this point there's no excuse to be ignorant about the causes of World War I.

Damned lizard people.

That's a crash course video by John Green, one of a series (which sadly just ended, though now he is doing literature). He's one of the vlogbrothers, two brothers who have youtube channels and do various things online. John is also an author, and I'd highly recommend his books, especially The Fault in Our Stars. Fans of the vlogbrothers, such as myself, call themselves nerdfighters...any other nerdfighters on fark?

I didn't think I was going to sit through it but it was actually pretty interesting.

Good find, subby!

Very nice and accurate summary.

Yes, not bad. I'm no scholar but I've read quite a bit about the war. I can't raise a serious objection to anything in the video, other than the strange inference that Peter O'Toole was miscast in Lawrence of Arabia. Assuming I caught that joke correctly, it flashed by very fast.

If anyone cares, Kansas City has an incredible WWI museum. It will really blow you away.

Agreed, and thanks for the additional information. I think I'm off to watch the whole damned series now.

One of the most glossed parts of our history here. Amazing how even to this day there is not much info on this:

Sketchy is correct subby.

The causes are a good more interesting and a lot less complex than most students of history realize.

It begins with the British Navy, the King and the Kaiser and the beginning of the end of the era of empire.

Oddly enough the battle is now being fought in the same former German colonies in Indonesia, except between China and the US & US allies like Taiwan and Japan.

Stay tuned.

/you could look it up.
