When my son was 4 we built a Jr.champ kart and raced on weekends. Pretty sure we had more fun then these dorks.

Best comment for the whole affair was said near the start of the video, "Who builds his son a war machine?"

They should at least make it shoot ping pong balls like they did back in the 50s
Mystic River sales early 1950s offerings

I'd park it right next to my Polaris submarine...

This short story by H.H. Munro, aka "Saki" comes immediately to mind.

(Also, if you have not read everything Saki wrote, you need to stop everything and download his complete works from Project Gutenberg. Saki was one of Literature's subtlest and most clever short story writers. O'Henry had more general appeal, and Kipling wrote in a little bit "larger" prose, but Saki's wit makes them both seem a bit juvenile. Go. Read Saki.)

i couldn't figure out if dad was running the tank via remote control or if the child was supposed to operate it. his son seems to be so young he's still pretty much puzzled by everything and stoned 24/7.

Thank you for the suggestion, just read it, charming and oh so true.

A pedal car one of my kid friends got for his birthday seemed super-cool and caused quite a bout of jealousy until I realized I can make circles around him on my trike and hit him on the sides, while he was crying inside defenseless.

That was as subtle as a Palin comeback.

Father builds his 3.5 yr old son a tank. I'll bet he got his wife an anniversary bowling ball already engraved with his name.

You know, I have the plans for that tank. Not sure if they're still available, but I bought a copy of them about 10 years ago and never got around to putting it together. My kids are in their 20's now I guess I should spend a couple of weeks and put it together for the grand kids.

i looked through the gizmology site(which is actually still up as of at least a month ago) way back when, and said 'man that's a cool idea' and doodled up my own set of plans.

...mine specc'd a 6-HP vertical-shaft honda engine into a 3-speed gearbox and would have either had the nuts to shred lawns, kill the kid inside, or just destroy its own tracks if you goosed it too hard. the power steering was just icing on the cake.

i did actually learn a lot of neat little things out of bill's site, which i still find myself using from time to time. i'd imagine his kids are in their teens now, and probably every bit as demented as he is.
